justintuckrule says: Jan 7, 2013 1:55 PM

too injury prone to be given an extension. If a dude like Victor Cruz with his numbers, less salary and better durability is made to play out his final year, Harvin better think again if he’s hoping for an extension.
----------------------------------

Percy Harvin is a better football player than Victor Cruz. He's faster, has better hands, MUCH stronger, and overall just a more dynamic football player. I aint knocking VC cuz he can play, but when Percy went out in week 9 he was in the conversation for MVP according to multiple NFL reports. Injuries are not the reason to NOT extend him, but his attitude is. A little humility would serve Percy well, no one player is bigger than the team, and it was never more evident than when the team went 5-2 over the last seven games to get into the playoffs without him. Hope to see him back, but I dont think it will happen...

If they make the same stride in their WRs next year that they made this with the DBs this year, the team will continue to have a better record than expected. When was the last time any Minnesota teams won 4 of 5 tough games in a row when needed. Frazier brings a calm confidence to Minnesota we never had before. Maybe TK but he never had the consistent chance with talent. Hopefully Frazier can be as accomplished.

I ain't no genius like so many of the commenters here, but I would like to hear something from Percy himself; would like to know what is bugging him. He is such a great player, and he plays like a Junior AP whenever he gets the ball. The Vikes need him.

Everyone makes such a big issue about him being volatile, but other than that weird 24-hour dust-up during camp and that meltdown on the sideline this season, I haven't seen much evidence of it, and a lot of it seems overblown. You never see or hear of T.O.-style antics or any of that baloney, so all of this stuff about him being a cancer may be a bunch of baloney.

completely agree... even tho you are in the NFC, you would be a great fit for Harvin and your squad has SEVERAL draft picks. First team to throw a first rounder at the Vikes win's Harvin... I am scared it will be the pats. Brady + Harvin, unreal

Whether he's back or not depends a lot on cap room. The Vikings need to get a big #1 receiver in free agency and they probably can't give both Percy and a big-time free agent big money. They might trade him for draft picks and replace him with a free agent who can be more of a #1 guy.

I can't stand listening to Packers fans. You could call me jealous in a way, but they honestly need to realize they are lucky to have the best player at the most important position. The Pack had 3 pro bowlers. And 1 is on the bench because he sucks (Jeff Saturday). Green Bay is literally a garbage football team, and there is no doubt without Rodgers this team goes 1-15 Indy Colts style. Then I have to listen to that fan base tell me how terrible the Vikings are. Talk about annoying!

Why does everyone think we NEED to find a position on the roster for Webb? He's proven he's not a legit QB, apparently he's not a legit WR either (can't catch or run good routes). Good grief, he was a 6th round pick. its not like you drafted him in the first round and paid him Jamarcus Russell type money or something. Cut him, let him move on. If he catches on somewhere and makes something of himself, good for him. We aren't out anything.

Thing with Harvin is that he's not getting 10M+ like the top guys. Best he can hope for is the Stevie Johnson range of 7-8M a year, presuming he waits to become a FA.

If you extend him would probably be 2 more years, essentially a 3yr/17M deal. At least that is what I think the Vikes would max out at wanting to give. The problem with that is that 2 years from now will come the whining about being underpaid compared to everyone else.

Harvin has no leverage as the Vikes can just have him play one more year at the bargain price of 2M.

I should also add that for Percy Harvin, he needs to recognize that the Vikings:

1) Had the faith in him to draft him despite his college incidents;
2) Worked with him through his migraine and other injuries;
3) Featured him and made him their leading receiver and kick-returner;
________

I agree with it all, and that's why he doesn't deserve the big contract as another person had stated.

He has the most talent on the team not named Adrian Peterson. A few talented players don't make teams great though.

He misses too much practice. He would a top 5 receiver in the division if it wasn't for that. Until he practices and continues to improve he will be a bit overrated in my eyes.

Percy Harvin is a talent — but way too fragile to be given a long term deal
————————————————
Fragile…except for the fact that he’s averaged 15 games played per season before for this season. And, what do you want to do with a guy that is one of the best return guys in the league, and missed 7 games but still lead your team in yards?

Just like when somebody stated Ponder is too fragile. Except for the fact that he played every game this season before the playoffs.

You know, there is a little something called the internet to actually look up facts before posting nonsense.

I should also add that for Percy Harvin, he needs to recognize that the Vikings:

1) Had the faith in him to draft him despite his college incidents;
2) Worked with him through his migraine and other injuries;
3) Featured him and made him their leading receiver and kick-returner;

If he is still willing to turn his back on a playoff team despite all the Vikings have done for him, he's likely to be trouble wherever he goes. At that point the Vikings can then trade him to Jacksonville for some top draft picks and let him waste his career down there.

All the Joe Webb detractors need to calm down. Webb was the Vikings best QB in 2011, minute for minute. Yeah, he stank on Saturday. He played like a QB who hadn't thrown a pass all season, and no, he is not the Viking QB of the future.

That said, the team could use his talent on the field at WR, where he's got the size and 4.4 speed to be a difference-maker. It took Ponder the better part of two seasons to start playing like a legit NFL quarterback, so lighten the heck up.

After 3-13 season, to see this season finish with 10 wins, including 4 in a row, only the most ingrained pessimist Viking fan could be ticked off about the season overall.

Harvin scares me to death every time he touches the ball– which is not as often as he could.
Randall Cobb is Harvin 2.0– maybe not as gifted, but with more reliability

How many games has Cobb missed? Isn't he still not 100%?

The Vikings need to get Percy Harvin on-board. By that I mean two things:

1) Get him the right attitude and be a team player.

2) Give him a contract extension.

At the end of the day, Harvin will be the featured receiver and kick-returner for the Vikings, will likely get the most receptions, and will be playing for a playoff team with a bright future. Nothing more he can ask for.

I think Frazier and others with the Vikings organization will be able to hit those points home with Harvin and get him on-board.

How is Percy a diva? He is clearly the best player on the team not named Adrian Peterson. He would be a top 10 wide receiver if he only had a quarterback to get him the ball, not to mention he may be the best kick returner in the NFL. The kid deserves a big time contract extension or they need to trade him. You put him anywhere with a descent quarterback and he is a 1,000 yard receiver annually. He has had migraines going back to Landstown High School, so it's not like those are an excuse. Hell, we would love for him to take Miles Austin place in Dallas

If Harvin doesn't return it will be due to off field issues. He asked for a trade in the offseason, but then said he hadn't asked for one. He reportedly didn't show up for some practices while hurt. Even if hurt, players are usually expected to show up and watch, unless getting treatment. To those that site Ponder as the issue, Harvin was among the leaders, if not leading the league, in receiving when he got hurt.

As Joe Webb, they tried him at WR, and it didn't work. Personally, I think Webb's long term most useful position would be as a return man, special teamer, and maybe a few gadget plays as a RB or WR, but not a full time QB or WR.

Just because you can’t play QB, it doesn’t mean you’re going to make a good receiver.
_____________

Then they need to cut him now, because he is of no use to the Vikings.

my point being from the above post that If Ponder can beat out a veteran QB maybe Harvin will be more on board with his QB situation. not every nfl team is blessed with a pro bowl caliber quarterback.

I'd give him a 3 year deal of some sort at least to keep him happy for another year, and see how that deal plays out with his attitude of late.
