7ransponder, we had a viable backup. His name was Sage Rosenfels, but he was cut to save $500K. Big mistake.

-------------

Agreed. The Vikings could have won that game with either Ponder or Rosenfels. Webb just doesn't have the mental strength for the position. Bethel-Thompson would have been a better option than Webb.

I like Webb. He's a good athlete and a good guy but he can't play QB and Fraisier has wasted his talent trying to shoe-horn him into that position.

neither one of these qb's are starter NFL material. neither one can throw an accurate consitent deep ball or fade. 1 completion in 16 games & 0-10 (or so) just doesnt cut it in the NFL. you either have the arm strength/accuracy or u dont.....cant be taught. long term they are both NFL backups at best if you dont want to be looking at the same situation as sanchez, mitchell, etc.

Not all WEBB

OC gets a lot of the blame.
few read calls after the first drive.
No screens when pressure started coming.
No early short passes to get WEBB's confidence up and in the groove.

AD less than 100 yards.
D no turnovers
ST turnover and no great play
= a healthy Ponder would have lost too

(of couse one could argue that maybe with a 77 yards of pass in the first half from Ponder mayber AD wold have more yardage too.)

PONDER 22 starts I believe 3-4 very good games
WEBB 4 games 1 very good game

Verdict is still out on both.

If WEBB can improve in the pocket he has something has a great arm and legs.

PONDER did show that he does have an OK arm by the long throw in his last game.

Brett Favre played half a season with a fractured thumb on his throwing hand in 2003.

Now 9 years later the vikings training and medical staff can’t treat a simple contusion and get a QB ready to play?!!!

Why hasn’t the vikings medical and training staff improved since training camp 2001?
---------------------------------------------

Do you mean the same medical staff that got AP ready to go for this year only 8 months after tearing his ACL? C'mon, sometimes we need to think before we open our mouths dont ya think?

I guess you have to have extreme confidence to be an NFL player. He actually thought they would have won with him in there? Yeah, yeah, he had a good game the week prior to help get them into the playoffs. Does he not understand that without Peterson he would be horrible?

This is a QB who had 6 games throwing for under 200 yards and 3 games throwing for under 100 yards. And that's with Peterson almost breaking the single season rushing record. That is flat out embarrassing.

It was a loss either way. Face it.

You didn't let the team down unless you are going to tell us you were able to play. Which is it?

The GM of the team and the HC let this team down. They are your 2 weakest people. Replace them with good football men and you guys would have won the division and been the best team in the Conference, and probably the league. It's easy to win when you have Adrian Peterson and a handful of other great players here and there. What a shame.

Minnesota is like Detroit of the 90's, just going to waste away a legendary RB for NOTHING!

However, it may have been the way they were playing Webb, but as open as the WRs were because the Pack sold out to stop AP, even an average QB could have had luck in the passing game. Favre would’ve played a preseason game with a broken arm if he could. I understand different people have different resistance to pain but sometimes you just have to question a guy’s toughness. Franchise QB’s don’t sit out games.

-------------------

Favre did some things that no one should emulate (in addition to his fun with cellphones). Favre would claim he could play, then proceed to go 2/15 for 9 yards and 6 INTs. After that he would still claim he could play. At some point you just can't play. Ponder's arm looked so swollen even if there was no pain at all he probably physically couldn't throw properly.

As a Packers fan, I was disappointed Ponder didn't play. He would have done better than Webb and I enjoy games more when teams are at full strength. I'm glad we won, but it wasn't as enjoyable to watch as the week 17 game, even though we lost that one.

Brett Favre also mentioned on several occasions how helpful it was to have Sage Rosenfels to consult with during games and in practice. But, apparently, somebody who Favre sought out for guidance and advice wasn't good enough to tutor our young QBs....

"He also said he knew there was no realistic chance of playing in the playoff game,...."

This quote shows me that the coaching staff did a HORRIBLE job of getting Webb ready. At first, I thought the vikes PR on Ponder playing all week, was a brilliant ploy to shock the packers at game time.

But after seeing how Webb played, I think the coaching staff and their game plan was horrible. They only ran the read option on the first series.

The whole vikings team looked totally unprepared.

AP is a beast, but, the only reason the Vikes won the game in week 17 is that Ponder literally played the game of his life.

He would have had to play the game of his life again to win at Lambeau. I can't see that happening.
