I was on the sideline at FedEx the first game, the last games, and in between. It was not in good shape; nearly as bad in September as in January, and nowhere near as good as the old RFK turf. It may be money, but it isn't college use. And it doesn't make sense that a coach would risk his own players for some perceived turf advantage. The NFL office controls everything else, are there no field standards? Hard to believe this shoddy surface would pass the minimum. The teams and fans deserve better. C'mon man!

Messed up turf???? It’s called Haloti Ngata, a beast of a human, falling directly on your knee. You can’t bounce back from that right away. RGIII was way more hurt than they were letting on. Albeit FedEx field/stadium/whatever is just complete garbage, the field did not ruin his knee. Go Ravens!! The better team playing this Saturday!

Peyton is going to absolutely annihilate Baltimore again next week. Hope you enjoyed your little Ray Lewis show yesterday.

Oh, good grief.
Media darling RG3 goes down - as many of his skeptics predicted he would. Small frame, runs too much.
Now the field, doctors coaches and birds flying south for the winter are all looked to for blame as to why the great RG3 isn't going to the Super bowl.
It's football.
RG3 was - at no fault of his own - put on a pedestal by all those around him and reporting on him.
It's just an injury.
No need to call congress, Obama or seek a special panel.

Lambeau Field also has a system of pipes under the playing surface that keeps the field warm enough for the grass to grow.

LSU has some sort of system in place in Tiger Stadium to enhance drainage, etc. Frozen conditions there are very rare. They replace the turf from time to time.

There was really bad turf in some bowl the Tigers played in a couple of years ago in, I think, Orlando. Terrible field and lots of complaints. I have no idea whether or not anything was done to fix it.

The Carolina Panthers have natural grass for their field and it's in great condition (even in late December after two college football games being played there too). You don't have to get field turf. You can still use a natural surface, just actually have to invest in it which apparently Daniel Snyder is too cheap to do.

A few points, I saw RG3's ankle turn in a nasty way that would have destroyed it on artificial turf. But on grass, the grass just ripped up, and he was fine. (not talking about the knee injury)

Also, usually when you see a field that bad, its by design. The coaches design their game plan around the bad turf and try to play it to their advantage.

The patriots sprayed theirs with water to create ice before they played the colts one year.

Imagine the bitter irony if it turns out that RGIII has suffered a career-diminishing [or worse] injury because Snyder was too cheap to provide a proper playing surface. I would hate to have it happen to RGIII, who is, perhaps too much, a true warrior. But it couldn't happen to a "nicer" guy than Snyder.

Adrian Peterson blew out his knee there Christmas eve 2011. Late in the year it ceases to be a playable surface. It was painted mud, and by the end of the first quarter the Redskins logo at mid field was unrecognizable.
Last year the league threatened to step in and make Chicago do something with their crap field so why haven't we heard anything from them about not allowing that mess in DC?

All cold weather outdoor teams need to give the grounds crew at Lambeau Field a call and go "um, yeah... what's the number for your turf salesman?"

The 50/50 blend of real and synthetic grass at Lambeau looks great and holds up unbelievably well all year long, compared to the garbage surfaces we see year in, year out at places like Fed Ex, Heinz Field, Soldier Field, et al.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that the guys up in Green Bay with frozen boogers in their mustaches are not horticultural savants. I think every team could do what they are doing if they coughed up the coin.

Sucks when the most important games of the year are played on this kind of turf.

This goes for any outdoor venue that can't/won't keep the turf in excellent playing condition at all times.

Adrian Peterson was hurt on that field last year, late in the season, correct?

Throw in Griffin, who further injured his already injured knee not once but twice during the game, Clemons (Seattle's leading pass rusher, who will be sorely missed if he's unable to return), and the fact Steven Hauschka sprained his ankle planting on the turf...well, "field" since it really seemed to be dirt with paint on it....you'd think the NFL and Dan Snyder might want to do something about this.

I'm sure college teams can find somewhere else to play.

Why is the natural assumption to go to that hideous looking field turf? Why not just take better care of the natural grass and maintain the field like how they do in Arizona? And maybe I'm getting older but I miss seeing mud and dirty uniforms. They've played on that for how long? And now people are being complete vag-nas over it

Watching that game I couldn't beleive that was an NFL field. Our local high school has a better turf.

Its unreal that 2 players have been seriously hurt due in part to this turf, and that its still a question as to whether or not FedEx Field will replace it, or at least come up with a plan to keep it in way better condition.

This field has been an issue for years. They let all these college teams play on it and it just shreds it to pieces. I love playing on real grass but it may be time for field turf. Got to protect your investment!
