And now we know why the Redskins are being so tight lipped about the condition of Robert Griffin III’s knee.
They’re being tight lipped because it’s not good. And they’re hoping that, somehow, the news will get better after further evaluation.
According to Mark Maske and Mike Jones of the Washington Post, the MRI conducted on Griffin’s right knee suggests that he has suffered at least partial tears of his ACL and LCL.
The problem, per the report, is that it’s unclear whether the injuries are old injuries or new injuries showing up on the MRI. But here’s the thing -- four weeks ago, the Redskins boldly proclaimed that an MRI showed no structural damage to Griffin’s knee. So whatever is showing up now wasn’t showing up four weeks ago.
And it’s now sufficiently unclear that Griffin also may have to undergo exploratory surgery to determined the extent of the damage. Yes, exploratory surgery. (What’s next? Leeches?)
So the bottom line is that it’s not good. Eventually, we’ll all find out precisely how not good it really is.
