I think it was a mistake to fire Lovie Smith. That team need more of a tweaking than an overhaul. Especially, I think the owner should have insisted on hiring a top notch OC and letting that OC in on the decision making process where personnel are concerned.

Chicago may spend a lot of time regretting this change. Lots of teams would kill for a 10-6 record.

It’s funny how Arians is a major player for a HC job. Pittsburgh lets him go, then doesn’t even make the playoffs. If anyone has given up, its the Pittsburgh offense and front office.

The way I see it, the best candidates are Bradley(defensively-minded), McCoy(offensively-minded), and Arians, in that order. I’d be happy having any of them as the Eagles’ coach, though Id prefer Arians over McCoy. To top it off, how great would it be to get Lovie Smith as DC?!?! However, if someone does hire Lovie as a DC, I dont think it would be a good idea to have him teamed up with Bradley. Two defensively-minded coaches may not work well. If things dont go right, you could see Bradley try to have more control of the D, which could cause unneeded tensions. I think my top choice would be an Arians/Lovie or McCoy/Lovie combo, but its like do I want a Lambo or a Ferrari? lol youre good either way!

I’m surprised there are no Scott Pioli mentions here. Sure the Chiefs suck but Pioli brought in quite a few good starters – and while he had his share of misses as well, you can say that about pretty much every GM, including Belichick, who has by far the best record in football over the last 10 years.

Mike Nolan is not head coach material. Look at his record. He nearly ruined Alex Smith’s career, who ended up being an above average QB – long after Nolan left of course. Not being able to manage QBs in a QB league should be enough to keep him in the D-Coordinator ranks for life. He’s also paranoid and plays power trips behind the scenes with players and staff. Can’t manage a game to save his life. My fave was when he did a challenge to whether or not a field goal was actually good (Akers and Philly I recall). I think he is the only coach to ever do this, and of course, it failed, costing a valuable timeout and challenge opportunity later in the game.
Hiring this guy as a HC would be a big mistake.

Initially, I wanted Arians or McCoy for the Bears, but I am really leaning toward Trestman as the days go by. Way too much experience on the Offensive side of the ball, and he knows how to reign in Jay. If Jay would not produce under his guidance, he can be shown the door.

CLE – Ken Whisenhunt
PHI – Gus Bradley
SD – Bruce Arians

Lovie Smith will have to settle for a co-ordinator job or sit out for a year before getting another head coaching opportunity.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Arians. I remember reading that he said he wasn’t going to bolt from Indy after this season, but you have to think he’d be tempted by one of the remaining head coaching openings. He proved he can get the job done this year when he won nine games filling in for Chuck Pagano — and at 60 years old, it’s possible that he won’t be a hot name for too many more years.

I personally think Chicago would be a good fit. They need someone who can get the most out of Jay Cutler, who has a reputation as a difficult personality to handle. Arians, who had a great relationship with Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh (another player with a rep for a tough attitude to handle) might be just the man for the job.

Not a surprise on Kelly…saying all along he would stay at Oregon. Gruden screwed up in playoffs not using running back enough. Shanahans play calling was crappy in Washington loss. Bears need Holmgren to rein in Cutler as he did Favre. Cleveland should have kept their coach as he made strides with little they gave him. Buffalo has no QB…hard to have an interest. But for future HC without good QB’s….there may be Smith and Flynn out there for the taking. Just saying…

Marc Trestman as head coach in Cleveland? C’mon. That guy was a DISASTER when he was QB coach and OC in Cleveland from 1988 to 1990. There was a reason why his stay here was so short.

And Ken Whisenhunt? The Whizzinator has an overall losing record, and single-handedly turned first ballot Hall-of-Famer Larry Fitzgerald into a 4-touchdown, sub-800 yard non-factor this year. With that backdrop, if he had to work with talent like Little and Massaquoi, the most we can expect is that he could convert them to paperweights, door stops, or boat anchors.

The last thing that the Browns’ already-tepid offense needs is a wet blanket like either of these two clowns. If I’d known it was going to come to this, I would’ve lobbied to keep Pat Shurmur (shudder the thought).

I just want to get this part over with so I can watch for who they might bring in to fill out the scouting and other departments. I want to get an idea of what kind of players they want to draft.

The Bears’ Emery is utilizing his Scouting background for he Coaching search – need to look at the film a half-dozen times/interview Candidates to find the right one.

Hopefully when he does find someone he won’t say ‘I can’t believe this guy was still available’!!!
