Caldwell gets second interview with Jets

It had appeared that 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble would end up being the G.M. of the Jets and that Falcons director of player personnel Dave Caldwell would become the G.M. of the Jaguars.

But one thing we’ve learned in the latest NFL hiring cycle is that there’s a disconnect between appearance and reality.

Caldwell, who has interviewed three times for the Jags’ job, will now interview for a second time with the Jets, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

On Monday, Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com suggested that the Jets are focused on a candidate other than Gamble; Caldwell could be the guy.

For Caldwell, having a pair of serious suitors won’t make the offers he ultimately receives any lower. So it’s a good thing.

But more than money is the question of where he’s more likely to be happy and successful. The cities and the organizations can’t be any more different; it all may come down to the environment in which Caldwell believes he’ll be more comfortable and effective.
