You guys crack me up, Ponder was obviously talking about when Harvin WAS on the field as in (before injury), not when he "was a Vikings" lol.
Spielman himself when asked about it recently and said "we don't trade good football players like Harvin". He said "we feel like with Adrian and Harvin we have 2 MVP candidates out there".

Unless he's just saying that to try to bump up his trade value, I don't think Harvin is going anywhere.

All the Vikings fans who hate on Ponder, please just go root for another team. I'm sick of you. This guy beat two of the best teams in the NFL WITH HIS ARM in week 16 and 17 in must win games (Yes, Andy Dalton had -6 yards passing at half with AJ Green two weeks after Ponder beat HOU). I don't know if these fans don't watch the game or what but it's annoying. I've enjoyed this year as a Vikes fan as much as any other because of the low expectations. Even the most pessimistic Vikes fan could be crying about this season.

1. The Vikings found our Head Coach
2. Adrian Peterson came back better than ANYONE EVER IN THE HISTORY OF PROFESSIONAL SPORTS from an ACL injury.
3. The Vikings had THE BEST DRAFT IN THE NFL this year. We drafted 3 potential perennial pro bowlers and 5 potential perennial starters. What more do you want?
4. Christian Ponder showed signs of excellence and improvement, and he did it in the biggest games of the season. The last 3 games of the season Ponder had no picks against top defenses IN MUST WIN GAMES with Mike Jenkins and Jerome Simpson on the outside. He was CLUTCH. Did Cutler, Eli, or Freeman win their last 4 games to get in this year? Go look at Eli Manning, Matt Ryan, or Drew Brees' second year stats and tell me Ponder is garbage. Educate yourself. What about Rodgers? Oh yeah he sat behind one of the best QBs in league history for 4 years, he's not even playing in his second year. Why are so many Vikings fans so reluctant to give the guy a chance? Do you want us to fail? It makes no sense.

So go root for another team pessimistic Vikes fans if you are going to bash your own after one of the most successful seasons in Vikings history. Keep up the good work Vikings!!

MatthewCarlson:

As a vikes fan, I hate to agree with you but I'm pretty sure the Patriots would love to let Welker go and get Percy. That makes their offense extremely hard to stop. I don't think it COULD be stopped. I just hope the vikes can get a good pick, or a bundle of decent picks for him. Player for player trades are rare in the NFL.

Nfc north teams can quit dreaming, if he's gone he's never going to you. I think the Patriots would be the best fit for Percy at RB and slot. Don't want to see that though. I want to trade him to KC for Bowe. That way he'll be where he can't hurt us and he'll be irrelevant forever and we get what we need.
If I was a wide receiver I would avoid going to the Vikings like the plague until they find a QB. Ponder is timid and has one of the weakest arms in the NFL. He waits for his receivers to get open rather than throwing them open like a good QB does. That being said, if they can get Jennings and maybe a big receiver in the draft to line up with Percy, Wright, and Rudolph, maybe even Ponder can figure it out. You would think the Vikings can figure out how to get more plays out of play action with a beast like Adrian in the backfield.

Couple holes in your theory... 1st, Greg Jennings will not be franchised. The packers wouldn't put that kind of money up for a WR when they have 15 of them on the roster to take his place.
2nd, the Vikings WOULD NOT trade him to someone that they have to play twice a year.

I cant see the Vikings keeping him. He misses practices and games from migraine headaches. instead of injuries from playing football. You can’t count on him during game day if he has a headache. He will end up in Oakland for a second round pick"

He was diagnosed with sleep apnea and hasn't had one since. Kid played all 16 in 2011. He's missed maybe 2 games tops because of migraines between 09-11

Hm. Guess there was something behind those trade rumors at the beginning of the year after all.

From a football perspective, it's a little surprising to me that he wants to leave. The Vikes made the playoffs this year after all, and could conceivably be better next year. Guess he feels underpaid, or the Vikes brass hurt his feelings or killed his dog or something.

As a Bears fan, I'd love to see him on the Bears or at least out of the division. Percy on the Packers or Lions scares the hell out of me.

I think there are plenty of teams that will line up with a 1st or 2nd round pick to snatch up the last year of Harvin's contract, and the option to sign him to a long term deal. He's one of the most explosive players to ever take an NFL field, I love this guy.

Percy is a once in a decade type of talent, but unfortunately comes with a bunch of negatives (injury prone, temperamental, not very coachable, non-ideal teammate, loves his weed, etc.).

As long as the talent remains elite, folks will want him around, but if he starts to break down, pull up lame and is not there for the team when they need him, he will find himself being more trouble than he is worth.

If there ever was a player that will be a beast during his contract year, it will be Percy. He will have strong drive to get paid. After that, buyer beware.

The Vikes need to figure out what to do, ride that one year of production, franchise him, etc. and deal with the b!tchiness, etc. or get some value for him via a trade.

Tough call either way. If they don't pay him like an elite player in the offseason, he will be a monster to deal with next season.

How hard is it to figure this out? Harvin is as good as gone, mainly because Ponder can't throw but also because Percy wants to win a Superbowl ring and that is never going to happen with the Vikings.

So what if Ponder let it slip out of the bag, its universally known inside the Vikings locker room and the only people that don't know are the loyal Viking fans, all 2 dozen of them.

Ponder This says:Jan 8, 2013 4:08 PM

It isn’t Ponder’s job to determine what players will be back next year. Frazier can comment on that, but Ponder didn’t because he shouldn’t.

------------

What are you talking about? Ponder did just comment on it? And, frankly, I would expect a (good) leader to handle the question a little more effectively than Ponder did, and not create a firestorm that now requires the coach to fix.

Don’t feel bad, Vike fans — You should feel good. That was one of the best games I’ve ever seen your team play. You had to amp it up because you were playing against a revved up Packer team. You had it going, People talk about that Adrian Peterson and he ran hard, he’s pretty good, but the difference was that Charles Woodson was in the game. So, that’s a little different than the last week. But, you did good, you did really good, you played really really hard and you should all feel good about yourselves. Be proud of yourselves. And the good news is you can all root for the Green Bay Packers as we go to San Francisco and we’re going to win that game and we’re going to win the Super Bowl. And we can all get in this together – GO NFC North and Go Pack Go!
