APAmong the ever-increasing names of candidates scheduled to interview for the head coaching job of the Chicago Bears is a very prominent name from their franchise’s history books.
According to Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune, the Bears are expected to interview Bears Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary.
Per the report, the decision to interview Singletary could have come at the suggestion of ownership. Singletary is currently serving as linebackers coach and special assistant to head coach Leslie Frasier. Singletary previously compiled an 18-22 record over parts of three seasons as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
Per Pompei, the Bears are also scheduled to interview Vikings special teams coach Mike Priefer.
Singlerary and Priefer join Seattle offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, Houston offensive coordinator Rick Dennison, Green Bay offensive coordinator Tom Clements, Indianapolis offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, New Orleans offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr., Dallas special teams coach Joe DeCamillis and Montreal Allouettes head coach Marc Trestman among the list of interviewees for the Bears.

I think I can speak for the Bears when I say Rooney rule. Or at least for the sake of their fans I hope this is the case
Why did they fire Lovie again?
Is Chicago doing what Tampa did last year? Showing interest in 30 different coaches and then hiring one that no one even knew was a candidate?
By the way, for the Bears sake, I hope they’re aware that Singletary has been a head coach before.
Um, there seems to be a fairly obvious reason for interviewing Singletary – Rooney rule. Considering that all the other coaching candidates are offensive or ST guys, the presence of a defensive guy seems to stand out a bit. Barring Singletary coming up with some amazing offensive plan that convinces Emery to hire him, this sure feels like filling the Rooney Rule requirements.
Rooney!
Good idea Bears…
Four words, Mr. Emery:
Head Coach Jim McMahon
Cant win with em..cant coach with em…cant do it!
I want winners!
If Singletary goes to Chicago.
LOOK OUT!!!
Emery… this brings my trust level
Down a lot!! I know you are NOT
considering this. Great player but
should never be a coach at all. Now
it is time for Emery to End this coaching search and Hire the one he really has in his pocket. this is getting embarrassing
thx rooney
So this is the token Rooney Rule interview.
After all, not even Bears fans can look at the job Singletary did in San Fran and want to give him the job.
Darrell Bevell would do great in Chicago!
i thought they wanted an offensive guy…
this sure smells like the rooney rule.
Say what now!!!
Pass…..
Half step forward 3 steps back…smh
I think it is good they are interviewing Samurai Mike. Lovie’s teams played hard and with exception on the offensive side of the ball he was a good coach for the Bears but he never brought back and helped any of the retired Bear players that were trying to get into coaching.. You can’t tell me Lovie’s BFF Babich is a better LB coach than Singletary. But we should still get a HC with an offensive background.
lol, need I say more.
Cmon, whose Phil going to interview next? The Cat in the Hat lol.
Maybe they should give Ditka another shot while they are at it.
I love how active Emery is in his search for a new coach. I never understand why teams don’t broaden their search more instead of just limiting it to a select few candidates. With that being said, I love Singletary the player, not the coach. Harbaugh took basically the same roster Singletary had and went to the NFC Championship game. Clear example of a good coach vs a mediocre/bad coach.
rooney rule and a favor from bears ownership. this guy was an atrocious head coach with the niners. look at the turnaround when harbaugh took over. of course it is possible singletary has matured a la belechick. but i doubt it.
Don’t make the same mistake we did.
Sincerely, a 49ers fan
hire him; enough said
Singletary is great at coaching the linebacker position, but a horrible head coach. Just because he was a great player, doesn’t mean he will be a great head coach.
One would imagine the Bears are interviewing Singletary to remember what NOT to look for in a coach…..
Clearly Mike is at best an average coach, just look what Jim Harbaugh did with the same talent.
Man, he was awful in SF. Bring him in as defensive coordinator.
Mike Singletary the defense minded pants dropping ass clown gets an interview but Mike Holmgren the offense minded guru who went to 3 Super Bowls isn’t on the list ? Great. I’m sure Bears fans will get all fired up if CFL refugee Marc Trestman gets the nod.
No way! Hire Trestman, NOW!
Really? Da Bears are THAT desperate?? lol
Good luck Bears.
Add another to the list. I don’t think #50 is the answer here. I loved him as a player but I don’t think he has the touch to be a HC. He didn’t do well in SF and that’s because he’s a coordinator at best!
It’s a shame that someone like Mike Singletary hasn’t worked out as a head coach. He’s phenomenal as a linebackers coach (he taught Ray Lewis everything he knows), but somehow his methods don’t translate to head coach. It’s worth mentioning that he did set Vernon Davis straight, but I guess he isn’t the master motivator that we had all expected he would be.
Note the report says that Singletary’s name is being added to the hat at the suggestion of the McCaskey’s. Emery’s gonna do this to please his bosses and then get back to interviewing the people he actually wants to consider.
I guess they want winners.
Great motivator not a good head coach
Emery is hurting his trust level with
the fans. the players are already walking sideways away from him. he needs to hire a Good offensive
coordinator with a good system and fast
“Can’t do it. Can’t win with him.”
The coach that Emery is really after
is a mystery. but I belive Greg Roman is his man. thats the first name he went after and the only one he hasnt interviewed yet. I wouldnt be mad if he hire Carmichael Jr. or Mike McCoy. Emery is not that dumb to bring in Singletary.
Let them hire that joke of HC. The Bears won’t be winning
anytime soon. Just ask the 49ers! What a mistake he was
for us!
Its not really an interview. Phil Emery just wants to hang out for a while. Rooney Rule fulfilment and a nice lunch? Two birds with one stone!
This is NOT a Rooney Rule interview. The Bears satisfied the Rooney Rule when they interviewed Keith Armstrong from the Falcons…
If Emery actually hires Singletary, then any credibility he has is instantly gone. Singletary would be an epic disaster. He’s not a HC
I for one hopes he’s stays in MN. The guy knows how to get the best out of the players as a linebacker coach.
Trust me Chicago, you don’t want this man to be the HC of your team. Not a head coach….doesn’t have a clue.
