Potential top pick Luke Joeckel enters NFL draft

Missouri v Texas A&M Getty Images

Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel, a junior and potential first overall pick, has decided to enter the 2013 NFL draft, according to multiple reports.

The 6-foot-6, 310-pound Joeckel won the Outland Trophy, the award that goes to the best lineman in college football, in 2012.

Joeckel has been the Aggies’ starter at left tackle since he was a true freshman in 2010, and he was widely expected to turn pro this year. He’s widely regarded as the best offensive tackle in this year’s draft, and some view him as the best player at any position. A lot can change between now and April, but at the moment he’s in the conversation to be the first overall pick.

    Eagles fans just rejoiced everywhere.

And I’m not an Eagles fan.

Shame this guy will never fall to the Bears.

Before McNabb started his first full season as Eagles QB, Andy Reid’s Eagles signed their best FA pickup to date; Jon Runyan.

Went against him two years in a row in high school. Knew he was going to be a high pick even in those years.

Top pick? I’ll wait to see what KC Scouting Director Juan Castillo has to say.

why in the world would you not come out if you were going to be a top 10 pick.

The days of offensive lineman going 1st overall are done in my opinion. Today’s game is all about quarterbacks. I think we are going to see QBs drafted 1st overall for the next decade. Especially with all the success young quarterbacks are having in the NFL now. The Bills drafted offensive guard Cordy Glenn in the 2nd round last year, and found their franchise left tackle. Teams are leaning more towards that direction whereas 5 years ago the Jake Long, Joe Thomas type players were a necessity.

with the 4th pick in the 2013 n.f.l. draft the Philadelphia Eagles select…………..

    @zoellner25 – I don’t think Denver will trade it’s 32nd pick

Future Tennessee Titan with the 10th pick….

  16. steelerben says: Jan 8, 2013 3:15 PM

KC trading out of the top pick down as far as #7 and getting Arizona to give up a bunch of picks would make sense if Andy hadn’t already cleaned them out.

Dropping to #9 and getting extra picks out of the Jets would be a good deal.

Dallas should move up, pick this LT, move Tyron Smith back to the right side and dump Free.

Chiefs will trade top pick for multiple draft choices. Won’t matter what Castillo says. Now Jeff Fisher might have a say so with all those picks he has available.

Not with the Bears picking ahead of you…But who knows, hopefully you’ll get to pick a little sooner.

@john6v54 I dont get why San Francisco already traded with Denver one spot before the draft even started

    steelerben and eagles fans-

Reid may keep the pick and build this O-line around him in order to protect his new QB. If I remember correctly, he started with the O-line in Philly.

My only issue with this is that there are no QB’s worthy of a 1st overall pick this year, maybe not even a 2nd round pick.

  24. onbucky96 says: Jan 8, 2013 3:48 PM

How does he project? Is he a reach @#1? Don’t awaken the beast that is known as Kiper Jr. I’m sure his list of potential 1st rd picks is at least 70 deep…

  25. youknowwhatsgoodforshoulderpain says: Jan 8, 2013 3:49 PM

Just what the Chiefs need…someone to give Cassel the time he needs to throw some INTs.

  26. thegreatgabbert says: Jan 8, 2013 4:00 PM

Jags will take him if he is there. Very reminiscent of the great Tony Boselli.

  27. djjackson81 says: Jan 8, 2013 4:23 PM

I can see Az trading up for the 7th pick and next years first round pick maybe another latter round pick as well

  28. djjackson81 says: Jan 8, 2013 4:25 PM

Joeckle / Warmack /Lewan one of those three will be there at 7 th pick

  29. themidwaymonsters says: Jan 8, 2013 4:55 PM

Emery will never make an idiotic move from 20th to 1st to get Joeckel, or will he…

  30. themidwaymonsters says: Jan 8, 2013 4:59 PM

Anyone know what the largest draft jump is?

  31. larryboodry says: Jan 8, 2013 5:22 PM

    @themidwaymonsters:

As much as I’d like Joeckel become a Bear, I don’t see it happening…Luckily there are some good FA linemen to be had this off-season, like Ryan Clady.

  32. whitecastleisafoodgroup says: Jan 8, 2013 6:19 PM

As far as the Bears go I’d like to see them trade out of the first round. Too many needs. If this kid is there great. Otherwise bail and get a couple more picks.
