APApparently, keeping extra kickers is what all the cool kids out West are doing.
With Steven Hauschka suffering a calf injury, the Seahawks have signed veteran Ryan Longwell after a tryout Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Ed Werder.
Longwell hasn’t kicked in the league this season after being released by the Vikings in May, but was apparently convincing in the workout.
There was no word on a corresponding roster move. Hauschka returned to kick two field goals after the injury, though punter Jon Ryan handled kickoffs in Sunday’s win at Washington.
The 49ers are carrying two kickers at the moment, with Billy Cundiff coming aboard as insurance for veteran David Akers.

Love longwell but he’s not a long distance guy and cannot get touchbacks even from the 35
Cowboys carried two kickers before it was cool. They are ahead of their time.
Thanks threedeep for sharing that. I was wondering why my Niners didn’t reach out to that guy once David Akers came up sorta MIA.
Good for Longwell. Gets another shot at the SuperBowl! A class act. I really liked him as a Viking. His range is definitely limited now, but if Seattle needs a 30-40 yarder and Hauschka aint up to it, I’d rather have him than the punter!
Ryan Longwell is an accurate kicker, and you can count on him for that. The problem is, he doesn’t have the strongest boot. If he gets enough power into a kick he will make those 50-55 yard kicks. Touchbacks are probably his weakest area, seldom will you see a touchback with Ryan Longwell.
Go hawks!!! Go longwell!!!
Uh, they don’t need to make a roster move if Chris Clemmons is already on IR. Hauschka (bless you) will probably only miss one week if that. If he kicks well on Friday Longwell might not even make the trip.
Obviously not too worried about DE depth.
They may not carry two placekickers – there’s plenty of time to make a roster move this week. Maybe they feel Hauschka can come back during the playoffs. And Hauschka made two field goals after the injury so perhaps he’ll split duty with Longwell.
Hauschka should sue the Redskins.
The Vikings cut him because he didn’t kick long well.
Seachickens will need him for those couple FG opportunities they’ll have the entire game
Preparing for play in Lambeau.
Only a safeguard move. Ryan may not make be active for the game but nice that he is available in case he is needed. Time will tell.
Pete Carroll loves CAL guys.
One of the 49ers bad decisions was letting longwell go so many years back. Cap-hell casualty. I bet he’d relish another chance to remind the franchise even though he had quite a career after leaving SF
If you need a kicker, John Kasay is the man…just dont ask him to do kickoffs
Good choice out of those available.

That, and the many PATs
The seachickens don’t deserve to be in the tourney still. Had Griffin been the leader he should have been then the seachickens don’t score and the Skins win by 45. Not impressed by an undisciplined, over intense seachicken team.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. And if pigs could fly…Unfortunate events happen to every team. That’s the way it is. That’s what happens in the NFL. Good teams find a way to win. Period.
Ryan Longwell always kicks the ball well
