How great was Vikings running back Adrian Peterson’s season? It was so great that he’s still doing great things, even after the season ended.
Via the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, a Twitter campaign launched by friends of a Fairport, New York teenager with cancer resulted in Peterson picking up his phone and placing a call.
“It was just the most amazing thing,” said Diane Calcagno, the mother of 17-year-old Blake Cognata. “He’s been glowing all night.”
Cognata has been battling since last February Ewing’s sarcoma, a cancer that attacks the bones. “It’s in just about every bone he has,” Blake’s mother said.
On Monday night, Blake’s friends began directing the hastag "#APCallBlake” to Peterson’s Twitter account. Within 90 minutes, Peterson called him.
“It was on his heart and he just felt he had to do it,” Peterson’s assistant, Chris Brown, told the Democrat & Chronicle. “If a conversation can bring a little bit of joy, it’s the least Adrian can do.”
“He told Blake not to give up and asked how long he had been sick,” Blake’s mother said. “Then he told Blake that he had his personal cell number and to call him anytime that he wanted to talk to someone. He’s a very spiritual man and talked to Blake about his faith.”
