I agree. But, it can become ‘ludicrous’. Does every team, during the course of a season, lose:

Starting Strong Safety, Backup Safety
Starting LDE, Back up LDE
Starting NT, Backup NT, 3rd String NT
Starting RDE
Starting SILB
Starting WILB, backup WILB, 3rd String WILB
Starting LDE, backup LDE
Starting WOLB playing with one arm
Starting Free Safety playing hobbled

My guess is they are trying to to scrap the 3-4 and go back to a 4-3.The cowboys have tried this expirement for years now and just hasnt been that successful. With 3-4 it also limits the range of players you have to pick from especially at the linebacker position. Switch to 4-3 solely and Spencer becomes less of a priority which could save them cash to go after other needs. Just my two cents though.

Same goes for Andy Reid.

Remember when Eli would run out the play clock 5 times a game and then one day never again?

Garrett and Reid never did learn from their mistakes or are unable to…
