Dolphins exec Brian Gaine to interview with Jets

gaine_in

There were reports over the weekend that the Jets had settled on a top candidate to be their next general manager, but they are still adding names to the list of interviews this week.

Multiple reports indicate that the team will interview Dolphins Assistant General Manager Brian Gaine for the vacancy created when the Jets fired Mike Tannenbaum last week. Gaine moved to the Dolphins along with several other former Cowboys employees that joined the team when Bill Parcells took over football operations in 2008.

Gaine has previous experience with the Jets, working in their scouting department when Parcells was with the Jets before he moved on to Dallas in 2005.

49ers exec Tom Gamble and Jets Assistant General Manager Scott Cohen are also in the mix for the job and there have been reports of interest in Colts vice president of football operations Tom Telesco as well, although Telesco is considered one of the favorites for the vacancy in San Diego. The Chargers are expected to announce their choice on Wednesday.

UPDATE 2:05 p.m. ET: Telesco has been hired in San Diego, so you can strike him from the list.

In a shocking move, the Jets are talking about bringing in the “most respected” GM in the NFC. Jerry Jones has his interview next week.

    Jeff Ireland’s assistant.

That’s what you get for your GM when you insisting on keeping a failed, loudmouth, egotistical coach in place and make working with him a condition of employment.

Wow. Now Woody is finally realizing no one wants to take the Jets GM job. When the HC Rex is in the room as part of the interview process, that has to be awkward.

Might as well name Rex the GM now, so he can’t blame anyone next year.

Haven’t the Jets noticed how mediocre the Dolphins have been the past, say, 15 years? Why do they keep going after Dolphin’s leftovers?

Jason Taylor, Sparano, Random Practice Squad Player, now the asst. GM??

Hey New York–what will you Gaine when you lose?

Bell played outstanding this year for the Jets, and Jason Taylor was solid when he played for them too. And it’s not just the Jets all teams in the NFL do it. They try to get as much info as they can about the other teams offense and defense. New England has taken plenty of players from the AFC East and they still win the division every year. It’s all about coaching and having the right players in the locker room.

No Coordinators where former DC would rather accept the same position with the Buffalo Bills than stay on Rex’s staff, fans selling their PSL’s for pennies on the dollar and NOW they are interviewing Jeff Ireland’s assistant for their GM?

Does it get any worse than being a Jets fan ??

This tells you what a mess the Miami front office is, that he would even CONSIDER a job with the Jets.
In related news, the Patriots are considering joining the SEC in order to go up against a more professional level of divisional opponents.

Wes Welker and his 675 catches in the last 6 seasons are waving hello from New England.

Every team has hidden talent that another coach can sometime spot. Belichick picked up Welker because he killed the Pats in several games even though his overall stats weren’t good with the Fins except for his last year with them.

Did the same thing with Danny Woodhead from the Jets who has been excellent with the Pats for that matter.

Gaine has an opportunity to take a leap in pay and power, plus he’ll probably get to have a hand in hiring the next coach. That’s so unappealing – you’re right, the Fins FO must be a mess!

    @kev86

    Yikes! You are so right.

I never thought I would feel sympathetic to the plight of Jets fans.. ok, I did after that Sparano hiring last year; until I got a view of Rex’s tatt.

You can’t make this stuff up. The circus will continue.

The Jets organization has it coming, but why should its fans suffer? Any Jets fan (if they’re home towners) could have picked the Giants and have celebrated 4 Lombardi Trophies.
So we long sufferers are at least not band wagoners.
    Give us that.
