Nevermind that Lewis was picked on repeatedly in the passing game and targeted specifically in the running game, people evidently still look at tackles totals as a measuring stick.

Tell you what, if a MLB doesn’t lead his team in tackles in most games, it’s an indictment of his lack of effort. However, that he does lead his team in tackles surely isn’t indicative of “playing well” as all you have to do is roll the tape and watch all but 1 of those 13 tackles by Lewis being after chunks of yardage were gained.

Oh, and the “almost pick-6″ was a pass thrown directly at him that he flat dropped….not a good play by anyone’s standards.

I understand the 49er homers that really believe Smith is going to make a difference in this game. After all, they need him to or this one is going to be a blowout loss on their end. But the fact remains, the human body doesn’t take very kindly to torn triceps injuries and Lewis’ putrid play this weekend is a precursor to what Smith is looking at this weekend.

And if you don’t think Lewis was targeted last weekend, wait until this weekend. Manning is going to feast on that slow, old man.
