Rolando McClain: I’m falsely accused, corrupt cops are out to get me

Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain was arrested on Tuesday for providing a false name when he was pulled over. At least, that’s why the police say he was arrested. McClain says he was arrested because the police are corrupt and out to get him.

It probably won’t help McClain’s case that the “false name” he gave police was an expletive.

According to the police in Decatur, Alabama, an officer saw a car being driven with a driver’s side window tinted so dark that the officer couldn’t see anyone inside at all, and so the officer pulled the car over. That car was driven by McClain, and when the officer approached the car, McClain rolled the window down all the way and refused to let the officer inspect the window. Asked for his driver’s license and proof of insurance, McClain said only, “You know who I am.”

The officer told McClain that he needed to inspect the window, but McClain refused to allow the inspection, saying that his doctor had diagnosed him with sensitivity to light and that he was therefore exempt from the tinted-window laws. Eventually, after the officer called a police supervisor to the scene, McClain allowed his window to be inspected and was given a citation for his window being too dark.

At that point, McClain was asked to sign the citation, and he wrote in the space for the signature, “F–k y’all.”

Officers asked McClain to put his real name on the ticket, and McClain answered, “That is my name.” At that point, McClain was arrested for providing a false name.

The Decatur Daily caught up with McClain to ask him what happened, and he pointed the finger at the police.

I’m falsely accused of everything,” McClain said. “It’s corrupt. It’s terrible.”

Asked if he thinks the police are out to get him, McClain said, “Yes. You said it. I answered it.”

McClain will have his day in court on the charges of providing a false name. But if McClain is being mistreated by the police, there are probably better ways for him to go about defending himself than writing an expletive on a ticket for tinted windows.

Yeah, that’s exactly what corrupt cops would do — target a high-profile individual and bring lots of attention to themselves.

  3. adlent says: Jan 9, 2013 6:16 PM

Maybe a tad excessive, but McClain is clearly not too bright.

  4. arlingtonsynn says: Jan 9, 2013 6:16 PM

While Rolando doesn’t have to act like a punk, charging him with giving a false name for writing that on the ticket part is a bit of a stretch.

In WA state, the Supreme Court removed the legal requirement for signing citations at the scene to avoid emotional situations like this. Officers must now mail the ticket to u with an address u provide, and if u claim not to get it and miss your hearing, then TOO BAD.

That said, what an assclown. 100% McClain’s responsibility he ended up in jail.

If that’s how he signs his name so what? He’s not that bright. My signature dont look like my name… no big deal. They gave him a citation so they already got his info from his license. This story turned out to be weak as f–k.

No doubt this guy acted like an idiot, but “too dark” car tint is one of the most made-up reasons police use to pull over a car when they can’t come up with a better reason.

  40. raiderinva says: Jan 9, 2013 6:51 PM

    What an idiot.

Given his track record he got off easy, I surprised he didn’t fire a gun next to the officers ear and state the he didn’t really mean it.

“You know who I am?” Rolando McClain
“Yes. Your not a has been, your a never was.” Everyone

  43. teal379 says: Jan 9, 2013 6:53 PM

Shouldn’t be too long of a court appearance.

If not signing your real name to a ticket is an offense and when the officer shows up with the ticket and is says anything other than “Rolando McClain” on the line – I’m not exactly seeing a “corrupt cop doing a frame up”…..

  51. hifive123 says: Jan 9, 2013 7:02 PM

He’s been working on tackling his anger issues, but tackling isn’t his strong suit.

  52. harrisonhits2 says: Jan 9, 2013 7:14 PM

I can see why the cops eventually lost their patience with him though.

  53. ncbengalmike says: Jan 9, 2013 7:15 PM

You don’t have to sign anything on the ticket and you certainly can write anything on it you want. A bogus charge that will get thrown out.

The end game. He inconvenienced an officer so the officer returned the favor.

  54. pacodawg says: Jan 9, 2013 7:20 PM

Making a Bold prediction here…….this won’t happen to RG 111 ever.

  55. chawk12thman says: Jan 9, 2013 7:31 PM

The charges for false information will ultimately be dropped. His signature was agreeing to appear or take care of the citation and that was satisfied by the arrest. He won’t get away with tinted windows and pay that penalty and have to show he fixe the windows within a specific period of time.

    This was funny…….

  56. Gordon says: Jan 9, 2013 7:37 PM

  60. rtant2013 says: Jan 9, 2013 9:02 PM

Technically he’s right, your signature can be what ever you want it to be, it doesn’t have to be his real name. You can sign whatever you want. This will get thrown out and dismissed, and in my opinion is somewhat messed up that he was arrested, I would be pissed if I were pulled over for window tint. You guys should maybe Google if its illegal before you talk crap about the guy.

  61. denverscott says: Jan 9, 2013 9:10 PM

    bigperm33 says: Jan 9, 2013 6:51 PM

No doubt this guy acted like an idiot, but “too dark” car tint is one of the most made-up reasons police use to pull over a car when they can’t come up with a better reason.
There’s a good reason every state has this law, safety. Most cops won’t pull you over unless it is WAY too dark. Most also have a device to measure the degree of tint and wouldn’t pull over a pricey ride just for kicks. If he was driving a 81 Regal with 32″ rims and a primer hood he might have a point. Also, when he picked the tint he was almost surely advised that it was too dark for side window use and said F32k Ya’ll, put it on MFer!

  62. strokeytheclown says: Jan 9, 2013 9:15 PM

What do people expect? He’s a highly paid pro athlete after all. Nothing he does could possibly be his fault! I’m waiting for the race card to be played!

  63. kenny328usa says: Jan 9, 2013 9:24 PM

This doesn’t sound like police corruption. It sounds like he got arrested for being a big mouth disrespectful jerk with a false sense of entitlement.

  64. whatchutalkinabouthillis says: Jan 9, 2013 9:32 PM

He sounds like he might have a mental illness…

  65. skilaufenhase says: Jan 9, 2013 9:45 PM

Why do cops need to see in your window if you’re willing to roll it down when you’re stopped? The only reason they have this law is so they can racially profile people.

I’m with McClain, screw the police. Did they really advance the public safety here? No. Its a joke. Who cares?

  66. dartwick says: Jan 9, 2013 9:56 PM

Hes a moron but hes got a point – that charge is bogus.

I dont know the state laws but im guessing he could probably be cited for “failure to obey a lawful command” or something along that line.

Rolando McClain acted like an idiot and turned what would’ve been a warning or a small ticket into a huge issue.

  79. lawyermalloy says: Jan 10, 2013 1:48 AM

  80. jason7498 says: Jan 10, 2013 2:10 AM

  81. evilmajortom says: Jan 10, 2013 6:14 AM

Percy Harvin + picks to the Raiders for this guy and the #3 pick. It couldn’t possibly end up any worse for the Vikes than the Napolean Harris (who?) – #7 pick (Troy Williamson) for Randy Moss deal. Could it?

  82. troysmithsghost says: Jan 10, 2013 6:21 AM

I would love it if he would now go through the process of legally changing his name to f_ck ya’ll, like Chad Johnson did. I would say it would be hilarious to then see it on the back of his jersey, but I suspect he’ll be out of football before the name-change process can be completed. What a buffoon.

  83. ronnielottspinky says: Jan 10, 2013 6:47 AM

  84. tdk24 says: Jan 10, 2013 9:46 AM

This younger generation is so concerned about getting respect that they never learned that they need to give respect too. It’s a 2 way street, especially with the police. Sounds like that cop showed more than enough patience with this idiot, and in the end Rolando got what he deserved. You don’t play hardass with a cop and expect to drive away.
