The title Assistant Head Coach does not have to be added since the Bears granted him permission to explore lateral moves.
Maybe they aren't going to hire him as head coach, but still want to do right by him?

Arguably the best special teams coach for years with Chicago, and if he's not a serious contender for the vacancy, it could be tougher to just sit back under a new regime.

Also, there's what, 13 candidates? Why is the mere fact that one of them is Mike Singletary mean the team is going backward? After hearing what the team has been saying, and looking at most of the candidates' background (offense), what makes you think they're seriously going to hire Singletary?

Not sure how the Bears could let him go. Any coach they bring in would be crazy not to want him on their staff. Proven track record as one of the best ST coaches in the league. Not like they will find an upgrade there. If a HC came in and didn't want him then he's probably not smart enough to be a HC

Maybe the Bears owners don't know your supposed to move forwards not backward. Maybe da Bears want a top 10 draft pick for 2014. Singletary won't advance da Bears as he's a mediocre HC should they hire him. Packers will continue our dominance over the NFC north. The last 2 years we're 11-1 in our div. Packers rule

thevza says: Jan 10, 2013 6:01 PM

For the record, these other teams would have to add the extra title of “Assistant Head Coach” for Toub to interview with them. Not just a straight lateral move. Bears aren’t that dumb.

*******************************
No, another team does not have to add "Assistant Head Coach" to his title. They could make him ST Coach/Kicking Game Coordinator.

And yes, they ARE that dumb.

Man I really want to keep him. Any other team would be lucky to have him. The Bears special teams are always fantastic. Even in Hester's down year, he still was in the top half for both punt and kick returns. I think kick returns was like 9th, or something like that, but dont quote.
