Bears special teams is the only thing that’s been scary for years. They’ll probably try to play it off like no big deal but that’s what they said when Rivera left & the Bears D backslid for a couple seasons before maranelli came in.

That only comes into play when when someone is interviewing for what would be a promotion. In this case, the Bears gave him permission, so title is not an issue unless the Bears want to block a lateral move.

Arguably the best special teams coach for years with Chicago, and if he’s not a serious contender for the vacancy, it could be tougher to just sit back under a new regime.

Also, there’s what, 13 candidates? Why is the mere fact that one of them is Mike Singletary mean the team is going backward? After hearing what the team has been saying, and looking at most of the candidates’ background (offense), what makes you think they’re seriously going to hire Singletary?

No, another team does not have to add “Assistant Head Coach” to his title. They could make him ST Coach/Kicking Game Coordinator.
