ReutersIt is widely believed that Jaguars owner Shahid Khan loves him some Tim Tebow.
It should not be believed by anyone that new G.M. Dave Caldwell shares that view.
“I can’t imagine a scenario where he’d be a Jacksonville Jaguar,” Caldwell said of Tebow at an introductory press conference, via multiple reports.
If Khan truly wanted Tebow, Khan could have imposed that condition on anyone hired as G.M. and head coach. Of course, Khan in turn may have had an even harder time hiring a G.M. and a coach than Jets owner Woody Johnson is having hiring a G.M. with Rex Ryan in place as the head coach.
For Tebow, it means there’s one less landing spot for him in 2013. Not including Canada.

Shouldn’t the title read “Caldwell slams the door on Tebow’s career”?
I don’t mean that in a malicious way, I’d like to see Tebow get another shot, but if it’s not happening in Jacksonville, I can’t imagine where it would.
Posturing…seventh round pick 2014 for Tebow in April. Lock it!
Caldwell might have also opened the door for Goodell to fine him for tampering (talking about a player currently under contract with another team).
CFL, it’s Tebow Time!!!!
Tebow needs a position change to fullback ala pro bowler Michael Robinson of the Seahawks (another former college run first QB). It makes too much sense, so Tebow and the Tebowmaniacs will never go for it.
Tebow is still a NY JET …. What is he suppose to say?
Do Jacksonville fans want Tebow? Khan might want to poll what will put fannies in the seats. It seems odd that Caldwell would be making waves before he knows much about the fans. When a team isn’t winning, the Jags might consider what will placate the locals in 2013.
Last hope for Tebow as a quarterback next season – the Browns?
Trestman may want him if he gets the job, but I doubt any Browns fans do.
I think Mr. Khan will discuss the situation with
Mr. Caldwell and the owner will get the player if that is what the owner wants. I believe Woody
Johnson had a man crush with Tebow and Tebow
became a Jet.
Eat your heart out all you sheep who said Khan will force Tebow on the new GM.
PS. Mortensen sucks at reporting
“I can’t imagine a scenario where he’d be a Jacksonville Jaguar.”…and finished it with “even if released.”
In Dave We Trust!
Maybe Tebow doesn’t want the Jags, either.
And that’s that.
Jacksonville was absolutely Tebow’s last shot at playing QB in the NFL.
I’ve said it before- Tim Tebow is a great athlete. He needs to start right now, today, learning a new position. There has to be someone out there he could hire that could teach him the skill set to be a pass-catching tight end or H-back.
He can do that and at least have a realistic shot at playing in the NFL next year, or he can stubbornly hold onto his dream of playing QB and be out of the league for good.
Another step in the right direction. The future in Jacksonville is bright. Now please dont hire another lame duck coach.
Well he can’t say they’re going to try to get Tebow because that’s tampering.
Most informed fans know Tebow has already played his last NFL game.
But there aren’t many of them.
Tebow has some qualities. IE- Good Locker room Guy, He is strong as a Bull. If I was an O-Coordinator, and I had tebow on the roster, I would try to work him in as a “Keith Byars” Some FB, Some TE.. Get him on special teams. Dont be surprised if Tebow ends up with the Patriots..
I live in Jacksonville and am a Jaguars fan….we want a passing offense. Tebow would not bring that to us. The stadium was over 95% full all year and the Jags we 13th in the league in attendance.
Tebow is under contract. The league strictly forbids even speculating about someone else’s player. To say that Caldwell slammed the door is ridiculous. He stated the only thing that he could say – Tebow plays for the Jets…and as such we can’t envision him here.
The Browns already have 2 mediocre QBs on their roster. Why would they want/need another?

Sounds like they did some homework..
I don’t think Canada should be viewed as a negative for Tebow. If he could thrive there, then by all means go! It’s obvious it’s not going to work out in the NFL at this time.
Just convert to a Tight End and get over your QB aspirations!
Maybe he should play with Dolphins”
He said, “even if he’s released.” That kinda important . . . maybe you should put that in.
Tebow will never be a Jag
Did he specify as a QB or RB?
That loud THUD you just heard was the door shutting/slamming on Timmy Tebow’s career.
Timmy Tebow, we hardly knew you…
Look at it this way, you will have plenty of time in 2013 and in the coming years to spread your message as you will not have to deal with the distractions of being in the National Football League.
Thank god
It’s obvious now, Jesus hates Tebow.
Shahid Khan is already taking the non-Jerry Jones approach to managing a team. It may have filled seats to bring in Tebow, but in the end this guy wants to put a team on the field that wins. Nothing against Tim Tebow, but if he was the primary target for them, they are in trouble as a franchise. Kudos to the Jaguars front office and management.
If Pride is a sin, then why is Tebow refusing to try another position like fullback or halfback.
The Tebow Saga, 2014 Sneak Peak:
“I just don’t see Tim Tebow ever becoming a Calgary Stampeder”.
If he’s not a QB for someone next year, he’ll be on the Patriots. He’s a football player first, and he’ll fit right in. BB will find a role for him.
Tebow REALLY wants to be a good QB…. I would REALLY like to be rich and good looking.
Sadly, it looks like neither will happen.
Tebow wouldn’t be able to throw a spiral (not that he can) with the CFL ball …it’s shorter and fatter
Thank God no Tebow.
It’s a very small percentage of Jaguar fans who want Tebow to become a Jag. Very small.
Belicheck and McDaniels will pick him up for free and turn him into a great back field option. Not a quarterback though.
There are many of us who don’t want Tim Tebow in Jacksonville. Over 3 years, he’s been observed in dozens and dozens of practices and games by any number of knowledgeable coaches and NFL personnel.
Their opinion is reflected in the simple fact that he does not play. The experts find him so inept that they even bypassed him for the THIRD string QB in a game.
The Tebowites have to accept this. He’s NOT an NFL quarterback- if he could play, he would be playing.
he would be a suitable back up and could be used here and there for wildcat type gimmick plays…a good coach could use him some where
Most said Andy Reid wouldn’t have a shot at getting another head coaching job after being fired from the Eagles….and three days later he was a head coach again.
Tebow will be on a NFL roster next season. Don’t know where or what capacity, but he’ll land somewhere.

You’re right….8 of the 10 says no.
Would love to see the Patriots pick Tebow up and use him as a jack of all trades and the 3rd QB (since they normall only carry two).
I’m betting the Pats could get more out of him than the Jets did.

Some of us have been saying this for a while and the media was so desperate to force Tebow-to-Jacksonville rumors.
Just a joke.
I think he could be an excellent fullback and I’m being completely serious.

I couldn’t agree more. NE would be the perfect place for him. The Pats will find a suitable role foe a unique player like Tebow. And the locals certainly won’t be screaming for Tebow to start at QB over Brady, so there is no distraction there.
I’m glad Caldwell put this to rest. Maybe now ESPN can shut up about it.
Tebow may never develop into a starter (thanks to the fact that he’s been through 4 offensive systems in 3 years), but the guy has the talent to at least be a backup in this league. Did anyone else see Byron Leftwich play this year? Or Gradkowski, Cassel or Gabbert?
Yep, Tebow could surely be a backup at least. Problem is, he’s not worth the media circus that follows him.
I guess on a slow news day, you can always play the Tebow card right?
I can imagine a situations where he’d be a Jacksonville Jaguar, and it’s certainly realistic and feasible…
Hire him to be the wearer of the Jaxson mascot suit.
If Tebow is willing to consider a position change then there may be an NFL team that would give him a shot. If he insists on his dream of being a professional quarterback then the only realistic option is Canada. It seems pretty simple.
If he plays in Canada for a few years and actually learns how to pass the ball then he might have a future opportunity with an NFL team.
“Most informed fans know Tebow has already played his last NFL game.”
Look at some of the backups around the league. You can’t honestly say Tebow isn’t better than a lot of them.
I agree that it may be the door shutting on his chances to play as a starter but he’s easily capable enough to be a 2nd string QB.
He would have instantly been the best QB in Arizona when Kolb went down or in KC when Cassel was benched.
Did I miss something? I can’t recall Tebow refusing any requests from his coach or GM. He always seems to indicate that he will do whatever is best for the team.
It is hard to believe that a guy who took his team to the playoffs for the first time in a while and actually won a playoff gain against the Pittsburgh Steelers has absolutely no future as an NFL QB. He has more playoff wins that Matt Ryan, Carson Palmer, Jay Cutler or RGIII, for that matter. I mean if my QB was Ryan Fitzgerald or Matt Cassell, I would welcome him with open arms.
Yeah, “door slammed”, what is he supposed to say about a player under contract?
“Gee, we would love to have him but don’t print this because we don’t want the Jets to find out and ask for more in trade.”
Interesting he said he can’t “imagine a scenario” instead of just point blank stating “Tebow will never be a Jet, period.” Don’t college coaches say they can’t imagine a scenario where they would leave their team for the NFL usually just a few days before they actually do?
Tebow needs to go to Tampa or Miami. Jacksonville blew both out the water on attendance last season and Tampa had multiple blackouts so makes most sense for them to go for him.
It’s about time someone in a high position has stated what everyone already knows except Skip Bayless, Conservative/ evangelicalreligious fanatics and deluded Gator fans, that Tebow just isn’t a QB. He should follow the example of Kordell Stewart, Matt Jones, or Antwan Randle el. Swallow your ego and sinful pride and move to a different position. He could become Saint Slash: FB/TE/punt protector.
Shuts door for Tebow.. That leaves it open for Greg Roman, Alex Smith, and Delanie Walker
Translation: This is the only team that would make me a GM and I’m not staking my career on Tebow.
We are finally a Tebow Free Zone! Thank goodness for intelligent football professionals!
The Wrath Of Kahn
So now you believe everything a coach or GM says… I guess Nick Saban is still the coach of the Dolphins.
So, what exactly has Blaine Gabbert done to keep a job?
Sounds as though Khan was smart enough to hire a GM who knows enough about football not to bite on Tebow as his starting QB. And Khan is smart enough to let the football guy make the football decisions. (Jerry Jones … there’s a lesson in this.)
Jets, browns, jaguars, Vikings, chiefs, raiders, cardinals, bills, raiders, titans, eagles, ALL would improve their starting qb position with Tebow.
Tebow’s best career move could be pulling a Warren Moon and heading to Canada for 5 years of seasoning before coming back to the NFL at the still young age of 30 or so.
Thank goodness this story is hopefully coming to an end. The majority of Jag fans have never wanted our team to acquire Tebow. This is a great day & can’t wait to see what our new GM does with our team. Go Jags!!
Who cares?
@jwreck Arizona?
So Vince Young AND Tim Tebow will soon be at home waiting for the phone to ring? The irony of this is if you combined their strong points, you’d have the greatest quarterback in NFL history.
UNLESS ….. Caldwell hires Josh McDaniels as his new head coach.
Why show interest now (for a pick) when you can get him for free and cheaper once the Jets release him.
People are funny on this site. So absolute about everything.
The guy won a playoff game against a solid defense. Matt Ryan didnt do that yet. Cam Newton didn’t do that yet.
Im not a fan of his, but to say he is completely done, when he’s done nothing to end his career, and everything to keep it going – he deserves, and will get another shot.
Give him RG1 ,s Job. Dump Roger Goodell and bow down to comish Tebow
Please let this be the end of it!! I was at the Jets -Jags game, the crowd was slightly larger than usual ( maybe about 1500 fans more). The stadium has been consistently selling about 65,000 tix….He would not make a huge difference in ticket sales. Jaguar fans do not particularly want him, because we know that the few extra “fans” that he would bring, would sulk and blame everyone but him if he did not win the starting job. I wish him well, but not here.
At least someone has the common sense.
Why is this constant fascination about Tebow? Any mention of Tebow always deserves a headline.
Now, back to real news, does any one have any news on Katherine Webb..
I see no scenario where my family will renew our season tickets in 2013. My new team…..wherever Tim Tebow gets a job.
Wow, another GM that doesn’t see any use for Tebow. Good Job Jets, a fourth and sixth rounder for what, 10 snaps for the season. I am a Jets fan and sick of our mess we have on our hands. Maybe Woody should interview Tebow for the GM slot. Can’t get any worse.

If I recall correctly, the Jets game had the 2nd highest attendance rating this year (1st was game w/ NE).
Go to Green Bay where they know how develop QBs.

Sorry, but selling tickets might not be the same as actually being in attendance. According to NFL.COM, the there has only been 3 games where attendance were above 65,000.
Jaguars home games:
Week 2 – 62, 907
Week 4 – 63, 030
*Week 5 – 67,012
Week9 – 63,050
Week 10 – 63.272
Week 12 – 63,323
*Week 14 (against Jets) – 67,027
*Week 16 – 70,0251
In 2012 we played Chicago, New England and New York at home. In 2013 we play Kansas City, San Diego, Arizona and Buffalo at home. Best wishes getting close to 63,000 per game without Tebow.
Say what you want, but we finished 20th in attendance this season and that was with a 2-14 team on display. We do not need/want that circus here. Winning fills stadiums not some clown who cant win a starting job on the JETS. Go Jags!
As a jaguar fan. We don’t want tebow here. Probably 2% of the fans want tebow.
If Mike Vick can be a QB rather than a RB, then Tebow doesn’t have to be a FB.
Unfortunately Tebow isn’t likely to make it in the CFL either. Being a “3-down” down league on a wider and longer field, makes the CFL even more of a passing league than the NFL. Tebow just doesn’t have the arm talent to be a long term QB. Too bad someone didn’t take him and turn him into a fullback or big halfback. He has the speed and power to play some RB.
If you really think he’s a candidate to go to New England, well…I think you’re out of touch. The last thing Belichick wants there is distractions and Tebow is the biggest distraction of them all.
He has about as much chance of playing for the Patriots as I do.
The actual win/win here?
The CFL.
If Tebow wants to use football as an opportunity to minister and glorify God, regardless of anyone else’s opinion, you can’t do that from the bench as effectively as you can as a starter – a regular ESPN highlight – which he was in Denver. Remember the posts from a year ago this time when everyone was “so sick” of Tebow this and Tebow that, or, Tebowmania was alive and well. It died in New York. Masked by the clown car that is the Jets.
If he wants to ressurect Tebowmania for that reason, best place he could do that is the CFL. ESPN would gladly jump back all over his highlights as he tears up the Division Two of professional football. And, for the CFL, they’d get a marketable name that would put butts in seats and sell Roughrider or Argonaut jerseys.
Win.
Win.
Even more importantly, it may reduce the number of Tebow related articles here. How many Bruce Gradkowski articles have we had this year? I’ve never seen a back-up (third string) QB get so much hype….
razzlejag says “The experts find him so inept that they even bypassed him for the THIRD string QB in a game.”
——————————————————
You call the Jets coaching staff experts? Are you serious?
Hey new GM, Here’s the Senerio: Kahn says to get him.
SK is so “All In” with the Jacksonville fans he is playing his best “home” game for his new fans in London. SK is a very smart guy and he is not going to spend millions to build a championship team in the 50th largest TV market in the USA. What is the JAGS new president’s expertise? Building new stadiums. Have fun while it lasts.
Bring him to Pittsburgh to replace Leftwich and/or Batch. When Ben gets hurt again, he’ll have his shot.
You guys are making a big deal out of this…move along, there’s nothing to see here.
It’s crazy how someone that threw for 316 yards against the Steelers in a playoff win is being unceremoniously booted from the league by all 32 teams yet QB’s like Joe Webb, Dan Orlovsky, Seneca Wallace, John Beck, Tavaris Jackson, Tyler Thigpen and Matt Leinart, manage to hang around.
I’m not saying that Tebow is a great QB, or even that he deserves to be a starter, but if scrubs like that can hang around as backups then why not Tebow?
Tebow is like the Wildcat and you see how many offences run the Wildcat formation. Just another gimmick.
he would be perfectly good for a backup qb if the media would leave him alone….ask Vikings fans if they would have rather had him or Joe Webb last Saturday night
See unfortunately its “fans” like jax is great that ruin it for everyone else. Hope your a cfl fan.
As ye sow so shall ye reap. Ms Tebow, you made a huge effort to be the talk of the NFL . Well now you are. GFL. (Whoops. . . Sorry)
I contend that until Tim Tebow has a season where he doesn’t make the playoffs as a starting QB, anyone who says his career should be over is an idiot.
Ugly or not, he won. Ugly or not he brought a 1-4 team to the playoffs. Ugly or not he torched the leagues NUMBER 1 defense at the time for a playoff win.
But hey, he plays ugly. I heard the same crap his first year in college.
If Tebow goes to Canada and doesn’t light it up, he’s toast. If Tebow gets a shot as a starting QB in the NFL and sucks, it’s over. Maybe he’s right where he needs to be?
There’s been a whole lot invested in the Tebowmania cash cow thus far… so in the long run, maybe it’s best (for Tebow, the league, and the media) if nobody gets a peek behind the curtain!
People it feels so goood to be back!!! If Timmy is willing to switch to running back he might get a shot. I heard the steelers are looking for them.
Guess who’s taking a QB with their first pick? Because I’m sorry but, as bad as Tebow’s supposed to be, he’s better than Chad Henne and Blaine Gabbert put together.
I have to say this certainly is meaningless. I mean if he says “we’re getting Tebow” – that’s tampering and there’s likely an article on here saying the same
If he says “he can’t see a scenario” it’s more nebulous. Perhaps if the Jets call him up he’ll suddenly see one.

Capacity in Jax is 67,246. Jax averaged filling 96.8% of their stadium. Good for 17th in the league. More than the Jets, Vikings, Steelers, and Redskins (Skins removed around 7k seats in 2010, yet people harp on about the same amount of tarps being used in Jax and no word about the Skins removing entire seats.) The tarps got lifted for Week 5, Week 14, and Week 16. So the Pats outsold Tebow, and Tebow out sold the Chicago Bears by a whopping 15 tickets. Yeah, he really brings them out. Oh wai…

All he had to say was “I can’t discuss a player on another team’s roster”.
What he said went much further than that, and I believe was intended to nip “Tebow Mania” from the Jacksonville media in the bud.
This guy had options. He wouldn’t have to come to Jax if being saddled with a horrible QB had been a condition of employment.
Just attempting to comment on this topic takes about a week with all the scrolling down.
David Caldwell came off so poorly during his press conference. He seemed so nervous and unsure of himself. The Tebow thing was a news maker but what stood out to me how much of a amateur Caldwell came off as.
As for Tebow, When a team has Chad Henne, Blaine Gabbert and Jordan Palmer and won’t even entertain the possibility of signing you as a 3rd stringer. You know you’re pro career is in trouble.
Tim Tebow’s career is OVER
I like the hire. Young GM hungry to make a name for himself. I’m still hoping Blaine can work out as our QB. Looking less and less likely though. Chad looks like a solid short term back up capable of some goods things. We do have some nice weapons. Lets get some OL and DL help Dave! And lets make the later round picks count for a change.
Get ready to play tight end
Tebow talents notwithstanding, why would any NFL coach want the distractions associated with bringing this circus to town?
As for the CFL, anyone saying he could play and be successful there clearly hasn’t watch much Canadian football; it is a passing league with a bigger field and fewer downs. Don’t believe, look at the the individual stats and records…
my bet is that by the draft he accepts the fact that he won’t be a qb ever again and lands in New England as a running back or t.e.
You know, I wasn’t a Tim Tebow fan by any means, but reading this site every day and seeing the SHAMEFUL personal attacks by Florio instead of covering stories about playoff teams is disgraceful. Florio, STOP trying to get rating and hits to your site by slamming Tebow. This is a non-story about a 3rd string backup who may be out of football. Your hatred of him is so palpable, it’s turning me off of this site.
3, 2, 1 seconds until this post is deleted……
Just put the dude in the same offense and Wilson, RG3 and Kappernick are running. Or the teams that run that offense sign him as a backup.
I’m betting Tebow becomes a Patriot…..H Back, Tight End, Linebacker…Special Teams Warrior for the Pats as they seek to win their second consecutive Super Bowl next season!
Good guy nothing against him, but if he doesn’t get a different job he’s already made millions. And he still young.
For those who think he can do well in the CFL, let’s go through this again.
Travis Lulay – Better QB than Tebow.
)
Drew Tate – Better QB than Tebow.
Ricky Ray – Better (and a Grey Cup champ
Anthony Calvillo – Better
Darian Durant – Better
Henry Burris – Better
Kerry Joseph – Comparable
Buck Pierce – Comparable
If he wants to go back to Florida, there’s always the Tampa Bay Storm!
You’re a weird dude. You suggest possible fines for tampering when a coach compliments another player, like with Suh, but now since the GM didn’t say he wants another team’s player on his team you think it means he doesn’t ever want the player. There’s no way these situations with compliments and tampering can confuse you this much.
Tebow must have something or there wouldn’t be more than 10 relies here.
