Jacksonville needs to start completely over, this is a good step in the right direction. Hire a coach who will build from the draft. Take the best avail player(s) regardless of position.

The fan base understands, but you have to stick to at least a 3 year if not 5 year plan to build a team from the bottom up.

Bringing in has been's and cast offs is not the answer for Jacksonville.

I can’t for the life of me figure out how teams keep repeating this cycle. I know there’s immense pressure to succeed, but there’s no logical reason to ever find yourself in a situation where a coach gets just one year. That, to me, says they never had confidence in that coach to begin with, which in turn means he shouldn’t have been fired. The Dolphins did it a couple years ago with Tony Sparano when they failed to get Harbaugh and the Jets are doing it now. If you feel like your staff is on a one year, do-or-die lease, why not just wipe the slate clean and try over rather than delay everything by a season?

Now, granted, Jacksonville has new ownership and so it makes some sense that things would be sloppy. But now that they’re starting completely fresh, it will be interesting to see if they stick with the guys they bring in or if they panic and flush the whole thing after a season or two.

==================================

Both my original comment and your comment are mostly getting thumbs down, so teams do this because fans are on board with it; they too feel if it doesn't improve in 1 year, adios.

If the lazy media wants to pin the lack of playoff success for the Atlanta Falcons it should be on Mike Mularkey.

He runs a concessionist, conservative, stubborn, and timid offense.

He refused to implement screen passes, and refused to practice the deep ball until being forced to when the Falcons drafted Julio Jones.

After leaving Atlanta is one of the better screen and deep pass teams in the league.

All of us Atlanta Fans were thrilled when Jax took him off our hands. We were stunned he got a HC gig in the first place/

It's no wonder that teams like the Chiefs, Jags, Browns, (recent) Cowboys, Panthers, etc. can't win regularly; they turnover coaches after one year.

It takes time to massage in a system unless the team is already a great one. Give the man at least three years to put his personnel in place and get his system working.

Simply idiotic move by the Jags.

Obviously Tim Tebow will be a Jag next year and McCoy and Tebow had a little bit of success in Denver together. You may see your 1st option run team in the NFL, which with MJD and Tebow plowing into people, may not be terrible.

You do realize that the amount of black outs (or non-sell outs) Jacksonville has had in the last 3 seasons is 0 right?

You do realize the difference between lifting the blackout and having a sellout? I've been at every game for the past three years and it was far from being sold out - even with the tarps.

That would be funny! The head coach of an inept offensive team getting an even more inept quarterback.

Anybody that doesn’t think Tebow will be a Jaguar next year is nuts. In the NFL the bottom line is still the bottom line. Jacksonville can’t sell out a home game. Tebow will be the draw in lieu of an actual football team.

That said, the next lucky contestant to coach this trainwreck had better be prepared to deal with one reality…no home sellouts and he’ll be one and done as well. Wins and losses won’t matter.

If we sucked last year like this we would have had Andrew Luck or RGIII, setting us up for success for 10 years.

Gabbert’s stats for the half season he played were better than Henne’s for the half season he played, so maybe you need to look elsewhere to point the finger of blame. Henne played the easy half of the team’s schedule as well.

----------------------------------------------------

I think those stats are pretty misleading. Anyone who watched them both play and wasn't such a Gabbert fanboy that they named themselves "thegreatgabbert" could see that Gabbert was hopeless and Henne at least gave them a chance to win. Henne could throw it downfield. Gabbert was 4 yard pass after 4 yard pass, even on 3rd and long. Was it just a huge coincidence that Blackmon caught on literally as soon as Henne came in vs. Houston, and from that point on played at a 1,400 yard pace over the last 7 games of the season?

Tebow is under contract with the Jets.

He is also not very good. 3rd string, in fact ... on a losing Jets team who also just fired their GM.

How the heck is he included in this discussion about the HC in JAX?

Lovie Smith to Jacksonville.

He likes defense and they do not have a good performing one. Plus, with the likely acquisition of Tim Tebow The Jacksonville Jaguars can "ground and pound" the way that a defense-first guy like Smith would like.

Note to prospective NFL coaches: When you appear for your interview make sure you tell them about your ONE year plan, because you don’t get 2 or 3 years and you sure as hell don’t get 5 the way you used to in the old days.

===============

I can't for the life of me figure out how teams keep repeating this cycle. I know there's immense pressure to succeed, but there's no logical reason to ever find yourself in a situation where a coach gets just one year. That, to me, says they never had confidence in that coach to begin with, which in turn means he shouldn't have been fired.

But now that they're starting completely fresh, it will be interesting to see if they stick with the guys they bring in or if they panic and flush the whole thing after a season or two.
