I think the problem you got here is the Jets Owner is more worried about being in the press then winning games. What a joke….

And to compare it to the Bears is just silly its not at all the same. You don’t fire GMs and retain the head coach. No good GM wants to take a job where he doesn’t have the authority to hire his own people. Last year the Bears fired Jerry Angelo the GM and brought in Phil Emery. He had one year with Lovie and fired him. Now the new GM gets to find a head coach. Thats how it’s supposed to work. Jets/Jags whats the difference. lol

This is interesting (the article is a little old because Mularkey was already fired by Jacksonville):

He makes this list because he may not be in Jacksonville for long, even if the Jaguars newly-hired GM, Dave Caldwell, has a relationship with Mularkey. Mularkey, though, excels as an offensive coordinator when taking a step back from the head coaching seat. His offenses in Pittsburgh (2001-03), Miami (2006) and Atlanta (2008-11) have, for the most part, been very potent. He has a no-huddle component that helped define the Falcons offenses under Matt Ryan and could help bring the Jets offense up to speed.

Even as a Dolphins fan, I’m baffled as to why the Jets would want the assistant GM from Miami. He was the guy who advocated against paying Cameron Wake the money they did when they brought him in from the CFL. Like, what about that dude’s resume is luring them in?

They have a pretty good GM down in Dallas, maybe Woody can persuade him to come to the Jests. It would reduce the number of dysfunctional NFL franchises from two down to just one.

I wonder if it is more bc Ryan is entrenched as the coach, or if it is bc of the salary cap struggles they face, coupled with a hands on/interfering owner?

Either way, top tier experienced/qualified candidates will stay clear of that mess.

I can’t think of a worse one-year situation for a GM than the Jets have for 2013. No one who wants to be a winning GM wants to go through that hell.

What makes it worse is that there are no guarantees that the new GM would be allowed to clean house after 2013, either, since it’s plain that the HC has the owner’s confidence and for whatever mad reason won’t face the truth about his incumbent quarterback. Who’s to say that at the end of a 7-9 2013, Rex says he’s confident about 2014 with Sanchez as his QB, Woody says, “That’s good enough for me”, and the GM is stuck?

Guys like Ross and Gamble have to be looking at this and saying, “Y’know, I want to be an NFL general manager, I’ve wanted it for years, but I don’t want it badly enough to take THAT. There will be other chances.”

I don’t get it. The Jets next GM gets to draft Revis replacement this year, he has a free pass for 2013, then he gets to cut Sanchez, fire Rex Ryan, hire his own head coach, and draft Johnny Football / Bridgewater or another stud QB in 2014. What’s not to like?

Big difference beween the Bears and the Jets. One is a professionally run organization while the other suffers from loud mouthed leaders making empty promises, butt fumbles and poor QB play.
