Torrey Smith lands on injury report with back problem

Smith hangs on the goal post after scoring a touchdown against the New York Giants during the first half of their NFL football game in Baltimore, Maryland Reuters

As the Ravens prepare to try to break a nine-game losing streak against quarterback Peyton Manning, the availability of one of their best defensive players suddenly is in question.

Receiver Torrey Smith was a new addition to the Ravens’ injury report, with a back problem.  The second-year wideout was a limited participant in practice on Thursday.

Also joining the injury report for the first time this week was receiver David Reed, who was limited by a thigh injury.

For the second straight day, a dozen Ravens were listed as injured but fully participating.  Guard Jah Reid was absent again with a toe problem.  Running back Bernard Pierce (knee) and fullback Vonta Leach (knee/ankle) were able to practice on a limited basis after not practicing on Wednesday.

The Ravens face the Broncos on Saturday in Denver.

Since when does Torrey Smith play defense?

  3. threatlevelbob says: Jan 10, 2013 4:04 PM

    *offensive players

Smith is talented, but I don’t believe he is one of their best defensive players, just yet.

“the availability of one of their best defensive players suddenly is in question.”

Ummm…. last I checked, Torrey Smith plays offense.

David Reed is made of glass. The only reason this is his first week on the injury report is because he spent more than half of his season on the PUP and then was only used sparingly.

Big Deal… Manning throwing w/ a glove in the snow for the first time after his surgery will be a bigger factor in this game. Get ready for an AFC Championship Rematch from last year folks.

It’s the wideouts for the Cowboys that could be considered defensive players.

Good to know the Ravens are still in the playoffs. Considering the media coverage, I thought the Broncos had another bye…

Only thing the Ravens won this season over the Steelers was a worse draft pick. I put the chances of them winning this game somewhere between fat and slim.

Snow will not be a big factor since only reference to snowin forecasts are on friday with scattered flurries, 30% chance. Nice try though.

Not questioning the injury but do not know how serious it is since the Ravens have been reporting every little injury since they were fined earlier.

thats odd steely…ravens beat the steelers won the division and won at least one playoff game. all more than what the steelers did. enjoy having early picks. probably gonna be like that for a while

Hey Steely – what time do the Steelers play this week?

  18. dcapettini says: Jan 10, 2013 5:37 PM

    Hey noquickreactionshere/Steeley McBeam,
If the Ravens chances are “somewhere between fat and slim” that means they have a good chance to win (fat). Or isn’t that what you meant? I thought not. Why don’t you Steeler illiterates confine your comments to your own crew. Pittsburgh fans are used to mindless blather.

Hey grand mariner— same time the ravens play next week ..be ready.

From Ray Lewis: I don’t often retire, but when I do It’s in Denver.

Well judging by the photo at top of page. The idiot hurt it while dunking a football over the goal post. Typical ravens player. All show and no game! He will have plenty of time to rest his back on the couch after this week! Losers!!

i have said it before and i will say it again. 6 trophies is impressive. but they have nothing to do with the 2012 playoffs. so go admire your trophies. i will be watching my team in the playoffs. its just facts.

steelersown…speaking of no game, that’s EXACTLY what the Steelers have. No game!

  28. troysmithsghost says: Jan 11, 2013 6:01 AM

Threw his back out showboating – I love it! What a pathetic franchise. Enjoy showboating after Denver smacks you around like red-headed step child.

  29. ravenator says: Jan 11, 2013 8:57 AM

Explain to me again why steeler fans are talking? We all know you wish it was your team in the playoffs but it’s not. I almost feel bad, but I don’t. Cheers!

  30. deucedeuce13 says: Jan 11, 2013 3:10 PM

I guess steelers fans stopped watching football awhile ago. That image of smith dunking is from weeks ago, and not how he hurt his back. He hurt it at practice. The steeler fan base has got to be the biggest group of trolls. Getting injured at practice > slapping your girlfriend and throwing her to the ground, and not being able to even WATCH the playoffs

  31. Nofoolnodrool says: Jan 11, 2013 8:03 PM

I guess the raven fans stop facing reality years ago when they accepted a murderer as their leader, but what do you expect from a ity like Baltimore charm city my a–. Smh

  32. deucedeuce13 says: Jan 11, 2013 10:43 PM

Since your not claiming a team, I can only guess, but I’d bet your roster has more players found GUILTY if something then mine.
Keep trolling the ravens posts. You look super cool.
