Days after the Falcons lost director of player personnel David Caldwell to the Jaguars, they’ve promoted from within to replace him.

The Falcons announced that Lionel Vital, formerly the associate director of player personnel, has been moved up a notch on the corporate ladder to take the place of Caldwell, who is now the general manager in Jacksonville.

We are pleased to announce that we have promoted Lionel Vital to our director of player personnel,” Falcons G.M. Thomas Dimitroff said in a statement. “Lionel has assisted in constructing our roster over the last five seasons and has been instrumental in our draft process and free agent acquisitions. He has over 20 years of scouting experience and has had the opportunity to work under team builders like Ozzie Newsome and Bill Belichick during his career. Lionel is a vital member of our scouting team and we are happy that he will continue to be a member of our organization.”

Before working in the Falcons’ front office, Vital was a scout for the Browns, Ravens, Jets and Patriots. Vital was also a running back who briefly played for the Redskins.
