If Ryan is there he will have some talent to work with. I would love for their D to really be great and once again show “Jerrah” why he needs to just sit in his pretty owners box. I know the Ryan’s talk a lot but I really think he can coach.

seatownballers: The personnel the Rams have on defense is much better than Dallas. It’s not like Ryan will bring those corners with him who can’t/won’t tackle. Or should I remind you that the Rams went 4-1-1 in the NFC West…and never got rolled by the Hawks’ or the Niners’ offenses.

I actually like Rob Ryan defenses enough. I don’t think he’s an elite DC, and I’m not sure he was as good as his brother was as a DC (but then again, his brother had better personnel in Baltimore), but I think Ryan is a solid 3-4 DC that’s aggressive.

I like the Rams defensive personnel. Some solid interior DL guys, a couple solid edge guys, good, speedy LB’s, a couple solid CB’s. It’s a solid group of players.

That said, I don’t like this fit. Are you going to force Long/Quinn into edge roles as a rush backers? Hard to see Ryan run a 4-3 for more than a year. I’m a big fan of Chris Long, and I think he’s your classic 4-3 end. Don’t love him as a 3-4 rush backer (although his athleticism could probably help him succeed).

Can I see this working, if they switch to a 3-4? Yes, but this defensive setup feels tailor-made for a 4-3 DC.

This should be a good hire. The Cowboys Defense is what kept them in the games. Rams are tough, Fisher is tough, Rob Ryan brings toughness. His Browns D might not of been a top five (there’s only five spots, not being in the top five doesn’t mean much) but they sure were aggressive. This could end out well, we’ll see.

I believe there will be 3 NFC West in the playoffs next year. If the Rams get a legit # 1 and some more pass protection for Bradford. Don’t know if Ryan makes that defense better because they were lights out to finish the season.

Funny all the Cowboys fans trashing Ryan. He had a top 5 defense in Cleveland every year. What does that say about the Cowboys? Everybody below Jerry might as well be cardboard cutouts. Untill that changes they will continue to lose.

Rob Ryan is garbage and here is why:

1. In 9 seasons as a D-Coordinator, he has NEVER been to the playoffs.

2. He’s never had a top 5 defense in 9 seasons and only ONE top 10 defense.

3. His first season with the Cowboys his defense was the SOLE REASON we did not go to the playoffs. All of you media robots like to blame Romo, but he was not even close to the reason that season.

4. Last season his defense did not stand out at all even before the injuries. Just look at the rookie Russell Wilson having 2 drives of 90 yards and 88 yards in only his second game as an example.

Rams went undefeated in the NFC West until Week 17…and even with nothing to play for, they certainly didn’t go out quietly.

Rams are tougher and better than a lot of people give them credit for. They play 60, and they never give up.

I believe a lot of that had to do with their defense.

What Ryan brings to their table…I dunno. But it will probably be entertaining regardless.

I have to admit I was excited when the Browns hired him as DC. But, it didn’t take me long to realize that he’s all talk and his defenses do not produce. Kinda like his brother with his annual super bowl predictions. I wasn’t sad when he went to the Cowboys. And, I’m sure the Cowboys won’t be missing him either. I do think the Rams might have some really good talent on D tho. So, they might actually do well and he’ll be the first one to take the credit for it if so.

For those comparing the Cowboys’ D to the Rams’ D, fret not. Don’t forget that Jason Garret/Jerry Jones is the “HC” of Dallas and Jeff Fisher is the HC of St. Louis.

I think Fisher’s more likely to be a dominating leader in his organization and because he has ties to Buddy R., he has a better chance of getting the best out of Rob.

Rob Ryan is the football equivalent of a lousy actor who always gets roles despite every film he’s in being a flop at the box office. The Rams had one of the more physical defenses in the league this year, why bring in a guy whose defenses never get the job done. Maybe Fisher wanted someone on staff to deal with the media in postgame press conferences following losses. Rams looked like they might be ready to contend for a wild card berth they can forget about that now.

Great move for the Rams. Analysts want to downgrade Rob Ryan because he has only had a top-10 ranked defense one time. Well, it’s hard to rank very high when the offense is so bad (on the Raiders & Browns teams) that the defense is on the field all the time.

He had some very good defenses in Cleveland, the offenses just couldn’t score if their lives depended on it.

Think this is a solid hire. Jeff Fisher is a very disciplined and structured head coach and wont put up with Ryan’s off the field rants. Which is a lot more than you can say about Jason Garrett. Plus, the Rams have some very young and talented players on defense. Chris Young, Michael Brockers, Robert Quinn, James Laurinaitis, Cortland Finnegan, and Janoris Jenkins. Not to shabby.
