Browns focus on hiring a G.M.

With a head coach in place, it’s now time for the Browns to bring in their next General Manager.

And while owner Jimmy Haslam suggested Friday that the process could, in theory, take up to a month, look for something to happen sooner than that — possibly within the next week.

It’s still unclear whether and to what extent coach Rob Chudzinski will have influence over personnel.  CEO Joe Banner suggested before Chudzinski was hired that the next coach could end up having final say over the roster, depending on the next coach’s expertise when it comes to finding players.

The candidates for the job aren’t known.  There had been suggestions during the season that former Browns executive Mike Lombardi could be on the list, but that possibility sparked a fairly strong negative reaction among the Cleveland media.

I’ll bet a dollar Chud doesn’t have the final say over the roster. That was to try and bring a big name coach into town.

    Just Sayin’…Go Brownies!

I doubt Chud controls the roster. My guess is that Banner is going for a format where the GM and the HC each report independently to Banner, with the GM controlling player personnel and the HC controlling coaching personnel. Strict division of duties with a strong, involved CEO overseeing it all.

Blah, It doesn’t matter who the GM is. Joe Banner is going to run the show behind the curtain. Just hire the store manager from the nearest Flying J/Pilot gas station to Berea and call him the GM.

There’s a young aggressive guy out there that would make a really good GM, his name is Tom Heckert, Jimmy you ought to give this guy a shot.
