So why did the Eagles spend over a week chasing after college coaches who they now claim they had no interest in?

Let’s face it – the Eagles coaching search is now in panic mode. The Gold Standard is now showing more than a bit of rust.

Why would the Eagles just sit around and do nothing while they wait for others to become available? Interview everyone and everything. I love that Lurie is not rushing into a decision.

Bill O’Brien – not ready to lead an NFL team
Chip Kelly – Gimmick offense is a gamble. King in Oregon. I’m an Eagles homer and I wouldn’t leave O for Philly.
Brian Kelly – Terrible coach who got outcoached hard in the biggest game of his life… sound familiar? Add in the fact that he is a quitter and thank God he didn’t sign with the Eagles.

Relax everyone. Most HC vacancy’s are not filled till after mid January once some teams are eliminated from the playoffs.

I believe they really wanted Chip Kelley based on the reported 9hr interview. Obviously Kelley was not that hot to jump to the NFL or he would have done so. O’brien was never going anywhere because of the large buyout. How much could they have interviewed the ND coach, it is reported they talked after the game on Monday but by all indications it was not a detailed intense interview.

Now that some teams are done for the season we will start to see where the Eagles real interest lie. McCoy is now available as is Clements and MacAdoo from Breen Bay. After today either Nolan, Armstrong or Bradley will be also. Thats when it gets interesting!

I can’t believe some of these comments. First of all..the Lurie is not cheap…he has paid players, coaches and front office very well.
Next, Andy was the one firing assorted coaches this year and not the front office.
Also, Howie Roseman has been in the league since 2000 and is HIGHLY thought of throughout the NFL.
And as for coaches….none of the real reporters that know people inside the Eagles have said they were ready to sign any of these college coaches. It’s not possible to sign a coach when his team is still in the playoffs so relax. It’s better to wait and get the right guy rather then just hurry up and sign someone.

Don’t be silly. I have it on high authority that Philly is considered “the place to be” in the NFL and the Eagles are the most attractive franchise in terms of it’s ability to draw not only top-quality free agent players, but top coaches as well.

Lurie and Roseman are a joke. they don’t realize how unappealing this Eagles job is to most coaches.

Why would anyone good want to come here and have Howie Roseman picking the players….but with a confusing spin by Lurie that the head coach will also have input….blah, blah, blah

Isn’t it possible that the Eagles really did think all college coaches would use them like that, and that there still might be a guy they really want (Bradley)? I’m pretty sure everyone knocking the Eagles managent really has no clue what’s going on behind the scenes. But then again, what do I know? I’m just a fan!

the eagles are going after the wrong college coaches, Roseman needs to give Mark Mangino an interview, offer Mangino the job as the new head coach of the philadelphia eagles.

They reportedly also planned to interview Syracuse coach Doug Marrone before the Bills snatched him up. Almost like -4- college swings and misses.

Go with Lovie or one of the Gruden brothers. I’m sure all would be forgotten at that point.

Its a blessing because Lurie and Howie are beyond clueless,lets get Gus Bradley in here to build a real defense.This teams philosophy of small quick o&d lineman when the rest of the league are getting big physical players is something i will never understand.This team has so many needs right now that in the draft take the best player on the board regardless of position because they need EVERYTHING !

There’s still nothing to suggest the Eagles have hit reset, have failed, or anything else that you have been reporting these past few days. There’s no evidence they’ve given anyone offers, or had any offers turned down. They never called anyone else in for a second interview. The front office even said it themselves they didn’t interview these college coaches with any real expectations, and thought that most of them would return to their NCAA teams. Hell, this article even says that they’re right where they expected to be. It’s not so much a swing and a miss at these coaches, more like eying up the pitch and letting it go past for a ball.

Aside from that, the Eagles are one of a number of teams who still have a coaching vacancy, and as of this morning there were still 8 teams in the playoffs with tremendous coaches and position coaches that may be viable options, or even the favorite option, by the Eagles front office. Lurie himself said that they wanted to find the right man in his post-season conference to the media, and said they would do their due diligence to check every available outlet before making what they feel is the right decision.

There is no panic here. There is no failure by the Eagles. They are doing what they said they would be doing and what five other teams are currently doing. The best names are still out there, and everyone needs to stop making a big deal of this non-story. They will hire a coach when they hire a coach.

When all is said and done, the Eagles will have a coach. It doesn’t matter if he is their first, second or fourteenth choice. What will matter is the results he has over the next 3 or four years.
