Tim Ryan should have his right to vote revoked. According to his logic, Anthony Johnson (RB, Carolina Panthers) was better than Barry Sanders because in 1996 the Panthers had a better record than the Lions. How asinine is this guy?? Get a clue, Ryan. Sheesh.

I honestly don't know what the criteria is, but for 2013 the AP made Calvin Johnson and Brandon Marshall their 1st team All- PRO selections and named AJ Green and Andre Johnson to the the 2nd team.
There are alot of guys worthy of consideration, including Dez Bryant and Demarious Thomas among others, but the voters felt these four were the most deserving of the honor this year?
In Calvin's case fair or not, leading the league in receiving yards probably had a big influence in their decision.

If Cutler had thrown the ball even 600 times, then Marshall's numbers extrapolate out to 158 catches for 2050 yards. Marshall's numbers as a percentage of Chicago's overall passing stats are absolutely sick, and certainly better than CJ's (which, by the way, are outstanding in and of themselves).

I get putting Marshall at #1. But I don't understand how CJ doesn't get the second slot.

There have been any number of great receivers on lousy teams that threw the ball a whole lot late in their games, and none of them got anywhere near Rice's record.

I wonder how many of you actually watched more than 1, the Thanksgiving game, of Lions games?

If you did you would know that the Lions lost 3 games by more than 1 score. That means that they were in 9 of their 12 loses. Also did you know that Megatron was tackled on the 1 yard line like 5 - 6 times, which I believe all led to Lions TDs. And not to mention that every game he was double covered and sometimes even double covered with safety help over top.

So don't be a hater because you think he gets garbage time yards, he had 40 catches of 20+ yards and 92 First Downs. Yes he did everything in his power to help his team win, he doesn't play Def or Special Teams which is the main reason the Lions lost, not their Offense.

49 of 50 voters thought Calvin deserved to be recognized as an All-PRO. The fact that one voter didn't agree with them means nothing.
In my opinion he is unquestionably deserving of the honor and if you asked every other team in the NFL if they would love to have Calvin on their team, I believe they would all say yes ... and that vote would be unanimous.

Michael David Smith: You think me pointing out an All-Pro vote is going to ruin his career? You seriously believe FOX is going to say, “Michael David Smith disagrees with Tim Ryan’s All-Pro voting! We must fire him at once!” Yeah, I don’t think that’s going to happen. ————————————————————————–Oh Michael. First off, I said TRY and ruin his career. Many mignons on this very popular site are easily persuaded especially w/ the headline put up.

You highlight how CJ got a single season record but don’t provide the other side of the story on how he did. Let me ask you this, do you believe CJ is more deserving of the single season record or Jerry Rice?
---------

Let me get this one Mike Smith....

Where do you get off even trying to determine if CJ is deserving of the single season receiving yards record? Did he not earn it? Then he deserves it.

Anyone who listens to his radio show on Sirius knows that Tim Ryan is an extremely intelligent and knowledgeable football guy, and a straight shooter to boot.

If he voted two other guys in ahead of Calvin, he did so because he truly felt that they outperformed him. And I'll guarantee you that Tim is perfectly willing to explain the reasoning behind his decision....even if it flies in the face of popular opinion.

You may not agree with him....after all, most of his peers didn't. But one thing is for sure....he won't back down from it. He made his decision and cast his vote, and he'll stand behind it all the way.

For the people harping on yards, and saying everyone who tries to rationalize Tim Ryan's decision is an "idiot" .... Matt Stafford had like 4,800 yards and anyone who knows a lick about football would say he had a BAD season.

Yards ARE overrated. Especially when your D is terrible, and you're playing from behind every game.

Calvin is the best WR in football, but its ok if someone thinks otherwise guys.

The Lions O had no run game this year, most games no clear #2 WR, sorry TE play, yet CJ set the single season record for yards. So how is it everyone knows where the the ball is going, yet no one can stop him? Answer is simple, beast. Drops? Very few drops in the end zone mind you, 5 td's is the result of pathetic play calling not play making. TRoc is solid, missed the boat on this one. Wins are the measuring stick for greatness not TDs or yards. That said CJ will go down with Barry Sanders as one of the greatest players to play, nuetralized by the single most mediocre organization in the NFL.

Garbage yards or not has nothing to do with it. Since when does racking up more yards than Jerry Rice in this day of no touch football have any merit.

All the QB records and all the wide receiver records are tainted. Just imaging what Montana, Marino, Rice and others could have done in today''s game.

I agree with Ryan who apparently wasn't swayed by yards alone.

Look at the game log. Calvin Johnson was wildly inconsistent until November 4th, at which point he went nuts for 8 weeks straight. Well guess what? His team was done and his entire season was basically him and Matthew Stafford compiling garbage time yards.

Yeah, he's a great talent and I probably would have voted for him myself, but I don't think voting for AJ Green, Brandon Marshall or Andre Johnson is a ridiculous notion. They came up big in big games all year. Just depends on your criteria.

I can't believe it either, but I'm surprised how many idiots are trying to rationalize that Dez or anyone else is better. Even one moron said yards are overrated. So should I say Mikel LeShoure is better than Ray Rice cause he had more TD's? So Dickerson and Rice's records are merely "yards" categories. Like AP, Calvin amassed these yards in triple coverage with defenses keying in on solely stopping them, that's why the record is so impressive. If you wanna argue that QB's get meaningless yards in the 4th quarter cause of check-down passes, you might have a case, but in the situation where Calvin got most of his yards in the 1st half and seeing double to quadruple coverage all game, I'd say its the most respectable record any WR can achieve. Congrats Calvin, and clearly there'll always be haters who think their guy (Marshall, who had more drops than Johnson and Bryant, who was irrelevant for half the season) is the best, but you have the record so they'll always be chasing you......and both of them are enjoying the playoffs from the same view you are.

He dropped a couple of TD passes this year but his TD numbers are going to be lower when you are triple teamed on each play. Anyone who thinks that TDs are the main determining statistic, especially with someone who faces unprecedented coverages while putting up those kind of numbers, probably needs to find a new sport to watch.

Dlions18

Auto correct makes a fool of us all. I didn't say his yardage was garbage time yards. I stated that yards are overrated and he didn't score enough tds to help his team. If he had 500 yards and 24 tds I garentee that both the lions have more wins and he gets the votes. He had record yards but just 5 tds. His qb set the record for passing attempts and he sets the record for yards but just 5 tds is terrible.

I wish people would stop using yards as a measuring stick for greatness. Its touchdown or bust

I don't agree with the vote, but its an objective system, and this is the result.

So many of Johnson's yards were garbage time. Even in the game he broke the record, Gruden kind of downplayed it. Gruden! A guy who never holds back off a superlative.

That team was terrible, and I get the argument that these awards should go to players on winning teams.

I havent heard a good excuse yet. If he was the lions only good receiver, why doesnt larry fitz have as many yards? If its only because of volume, why did he break the record with less catches than rice? The lions lost 9 1 possesion games. They did not play prevent defenses. He had 80 yards when trailing by 14 or more. Please. Know your facts before spewing ignorance about megatron.

Not voting for a guy who broke a single season record held by one of the widely considered greatest NFL players EVER isn't enough to get him fired, and it shouldn't be, but it speaks to his mental state.

Media members SHOULD be reporting and voting based on facts not personal bias.

That's why it's an issue. A lone voter, who clearly was not voting for Megatron for other reasons than his on field play.

THAT is the problem folks. This wasn't a fan poll. It was voted on by people with higher expectations.
