I get putting Marshall at #1. But I don’t understand how CJ doesn’t get the second slot.

There have been any number of great receivers on lousy teams that threw the ball a whole lot late in their games, and none of them got anywhere near Rice’s record.

If you did you would know that the Lions lost 3 games by more than 1 score. That means that they were in 9 of their 12 loses. Also did you know that Megatron was tackled on the 1 yard line like 5 – 6 times, which I believe all led to Lions TDs. And not to mention that every game he was double covered and sometimes even double covered with safety help over top.

So don’t be a hater because you think he gets garbage time yards, he had 40 catches of 20+ yards and 92 First Downs. Yes he did everything in his power to help his team win, he doesn’t play Def or Special Teams which is the main reason the Lions lost, not their Offense.

You highlight how CJ got a single season record but don’t provide the other side of the story on how he did. Let me ask you this, do you believe CJ is more deserving of the single season record or Jerry Rice?

Where do you get off even trying to determine if CJ is deserving of the single season receiving yards record? Did he not earn it? Then he deserves it.

If he voted two other guys in ahead of Calvin, he did so because he truly felt that they outperformed him. And I’ll guarantee you that Tim is perfectly willing to explain the reasoning behind his decision….even if it flies in the face of popular opinion.

You may not agree with him….after all, most of his peers didn’t. But one thing is for sure….he won’t back down from it. He made his decision and cast his vote, and he’ll stand behind it all the way.

Yards ARE overrated. Especially when your D is terrible, and you’re playing from behind every game.

Calvin is the best WR in football, but its ok if someone thinks otherwise guys.

All the QB records and all the wide receiver records are tainted. Just imaging what Montana, Marino, Rice and others could have done in today”s game.

I agree with Ryan who apparently wasn’t swayed by yards alone.

Yeah, he’s a great talent and I probably would have voted for him myself, but I don’t think voting for AJ Green, Brandon Marshall or Andre Johnson is a ridiculous notion. They came up big in big games all year. Just depends on your criteria.

Auto correct makes a fool of us all. I didn’t say his yardage was garbage time yards. I stated that yards are overrated and he didn’t score enough tds to help his team. If he had 500 yards and 24 tds I garentee that both the lions have more wins and he gets the votes. He had record yards but just 5 tds. His qb set the record for passing attempts and he sets the record for yards but just 5 tds is terrible.

I wish people would stop using yards as a measuring stick for greatness. Its touchdown or bust

So many of Johnson’s yards were garbage time. Even in the game he broke the record, Gruden kind of downplayed it. Gruden! A guy who never holds back off a superlative.

That team was terrible, and I get the argument that these awards should go to players on winning teams.

Media members SHOULD be reporting and voting based on facts not personal bias.

That’s why it’s an issue. A lone voter, who clearly was not voting for Megatron for other reasons than his on field play.

THAT is the problem folks. This wasn’t a fan poll. It was voted on by people with higher expectations.
