Falcons take 20-0 lead into halftime

Michael Turner AP

An ugly half ended in ugly fashion for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks drove the ball inside the Falcons’ 10-yard line as time ran down in the second quarter, but a false start and a sack by Jonathan Babineaux pushed them back with no timeouts left to stop the clock. They didn’t try to rush the field goal unit onto the field, leaving Russell Wilson to line up the offense and try to snap the ball before time ran out. He failed and the Seahawks trail 20-0 at the half.

It was the third trip into Falcons territory to end without points for the Seahawks. The Falcons, meanwhile, have scored on four of their five possessions to build their big lead. We’ve covered some of the highlights, but the moment that lingered above the others was 5-6 Falcons running back Jacquizz Rodgers running over Seahawks safety Earl Thomas on the way to a 43-yard run. He looked like Marshawn Lynch in full Beast Mode, a level that no one on the Seahawks has been able to reach through 30 minutes of play.

Rodgers has 61 yards and Michael Turner has 66 as the Falcons offensive line has overwhelmed the Seahawks defense in the running game thus far. It’s been a physical, impressive effort from the Falcons.

The news isn’t all good for Atlanta, though. Falcons defensive end John Abraham is questionable to return with the ankle injury he suffered at the end of the regular season. He was questionable to play Sunday after being limited in practice all week.

I hope the Hawks have a little magic left…

Out of the six teams we’ve seen in the divisional rounds there has so far only been one fraud giving us a lousy game. Hint: It isn’t the Ravens, Broncos, 49ers, Packers, or Falcons.

Go back to the kiddie table where you belong, Seattle.

What happened HAWKS? Can’t beat a QB with 2 working legs?

Newsflash: this is exactly what would have happened last week if RG3 doesn’t hurt his knee first quarter.

I like Sherman applauding White after he got torched for that TD. He should leave now and beat the traffic home.

At least you can add a Wild Card Win** to that empty trophy case, frauds.

It would be appreciated if the refs could spot the ball with a little more urgency. You’d think it shouldn’t take 13 seconds to spot a ball in that situation. Hope the Hawks D shows up in the 2nd half.

Seahawks asked, “What you going to do boy?”
Falcons responded, “I’m gonna punch you in your Gol’ darn face!”
And then they did, knocking the Seahawks out.

As a hawk fan,, play calling is the complete garbage. Horrible

Shockingly, none of the Seahawk trolls that cheered RGIII’s injury are talking right now? Hmmm?

i would love to get the seahawks, in san fran for a home game, but i cant wait to see them get knocked out of the playoffs. and if its by atlanta, thats cool. it just means i dont have to watch sherman and pete carroll gloat again, this season.

Prepare yourselves for a giant choke job Matt Ryan and the Falcons are about to carry out.

c’mon Atlanta.. let em score at least once. There mamas are watchin

  12. bucslose says: Jan 13, 2013 2:56 PM

I’m a little surprised how bad the Seahawks looked on both sides of the ball so far.
If Falcons pull this out, I don’t give them much hope next week.

  13. kurb21 says: Jan 13, 2013 2:57 PM

I realize that anything can happen on a weekly basis, but after watching Kaepernick yesterday, I can’t imagine that the winner of this game is going to be doing anything but going to the slaughter next week. As a Patriots fan, the niners are terrifying.

  14. gizzmonic says: Jan 13, 2013 2:58 PM

How did a team of absolute nobodys, with zero history or tradition become so thouroughly disliked?

  15. bunkerhillbob says: Jan 13, 2013 3:08 PM

Looks like this is Atlanta’s day.

  16. pleasefirecam says: Jan 13, 2013 3:09 PM

Bc people can’t stand Carroll and Sherman…they’re punk arse beotches!

  17. romosmicrodongs says: Jan 13, 2013 3:11 PM

cant beat a team thats not missing half its starters and qb eh?

congrats on a meaningless win against the skins backups.

and yea sherman is getting burned like toast. its what happens when you cut corners (and cant use PEDs anymore).

  18. benroethlisberger7 says: Jan 13, 2013 3:12 PM

Here we go Steel Rings, here we go.

  19. 49erclaven says: Jan 13, 2013 3:12 PM

When you talk as much as Sherman and your coach runs fake punts up by 30 against terrible teams you become disliked. Let your play do the talkin, not your grill. Wonder what his GPA was at Stanford? I hate them cause they’re in our Division and whooped our tails!

  20. bonecrushinghits says: Jan 13, 2013 3:14 PM

No one likes the Seahawks because we are tired of heard the trolls and national analysts blow them on a weekly basis like they are infallible because they had a couple blowout wins over weak opponents. Richard Sherman is also a classless punk who will be watching the NFC Championship from the couch. Also getting tired of hearing about Russell Wilson overcoming his lack of height. Way overrated team. Buh Bye!

  21. packmanfan says: Jan 13, 2013 3:15 PM

Packers fans should be cheering on for the Falcons all the way now!

Gizzmonic, Pete Carroll, Richard Sherman, Brandon Browner, Marshawn Lynch, Michael Robinson, Leroy Hill

THey have a bunch of talented, but abbrasive and irritating people. They taunt, they talk smack, and they are poor winners. As a Niner Fan, I see it twice a year. Their is a collegal attitude between teams and players which Seattle has no regard for. They have earned their reputation, they are a good team, but you reap what you sow.

  23. pointwithinthecircle says: Jan 13, 2013 3:24 PM

Lynch is garbage at the goal. They didn’t give him a second chance to cough up the pill like he did last week.

  24. Dolphins Nation says: Jan 13, 2013 3:26 PM

Can the Falcons close the deal? If they don’t, I think they should start thinking about making some serious changes on the football side of the organization.

  25. beastmode5150 says: Jan 13, 2013 3:26 PM

Umm, a murph, you realize you root for the niners right? Do you ignore your whiney crap talking coach or brash loud mouthed players?

  26. raideralex99 says: Jan 13, 2013 3:27 PM

No excuses for Seattle showing a little live in the second half … maybe if the NFL would have scheduled a west coast team playing later like they did last week in Washington … this would have been a better game.

I know! Who do they think they are??? The 49ers?

  28. icewalker946 says: Jan 13, 2013 4:11 PM

And here comes the trash talk BACK from the other side! Atlanta just kicked a FG to take BACK the lead.

  29. tcskins says: Jan 13, 2013 4:21 PM

Which big mouthed DB got owned there on the Ryan pass? Nice redo gift from Pete Carroll…love it..

  30. 49erlover says: Jan 13, 2013 4:52 PM

I don’t care if we win a SB just beat the Falcons!!!
