Texans receiver DeVier Posey suffered a torn Achilles tendon injury in Sunday’s loss to the Patriots.

Posey went down in pain and had to be carted off the field, and he confirmed the diagnosis after the game.

“It felt like I got shot. I’ve never felt anything like it,” Posey told John McClain ‏of the Houston Chronicle.

The Texans took Posey in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft, and although he got off to a slow start in his rookie season, he was showing promise late in the year, with six catches for 87 yards in the final four games of the regular season. Before he got hurt against the Patriots he was playing well, catching three passes for 47 yards and a touchdown.

Now Posey will have surgery and a long offseason of rehabilitation. A torn Achilles tendon is a very serious injury, one that could affect him into the 2013 season.
