New Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said he wanted to keep personnel man Jimmy Raye, the guy considered one of the early favorites for the Chargers GM job.
Instead, Raye’s going to slide into Telesco’s old chair.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Jim Trotter, Raye’s joining the Colts as vice president of football operations.
The idea Raye might hang around after being considered a possible replacement for A.J. Smith seemed farfetched as soon as Telesco said it, and Telesco probably knew that too.
Raye was also mentioned in connection to the Jets general manager job, but taking a sub-GM job now is probably an indication they weren’t prepared to offer him $1 million worth of house.

A great hire for the Colts. With the cap money to play with that they have, this team will dominate once again, very soon.
Great hire. Now hopefully they have an offensive coordinator lined up since Arians will soon be gone.
Welcome to a great organization! !! And BA wont get hired by anyone, he will be back in Indy! !!
Im not so Sure about that… I think he will be Chicago’s new coach
They made a trade.
I’d be VP of Player Personel in Indy before taking ANY job with the Jets
Don’t get overly excited Colts fans. This is a guy who has missed on the Chargers last 5 #1 picks. His last good pick was Eric Weddle in the 2nd round of the 2007 draft. I know it has a lot to do with AJ “Lord Of No Rings” Smith but Raye was the direcor of college scouting. I think the jury is still out on Melvin Ingram & Corey Liuget but go back & look at their drafts…not much to show for. I hope he does well in Indy but be careful what you wish for or pump your fist about!!
I hope this does not mean that Chris Polian is on his way into SD. Be afraid, very afraid.
So in terms of personnel men, Raye and Telesco switched organizations, but was it a promotion or not?
BTW thumbs up if The Jets is a promotion in name only.
