Brendon Ayanbadejo ‏apologizes for comments about the Patriots

Baltimore Ravens v San Diego Chargers Getty Images

With a day to think about it, Brendon Ayanbadejo ‏would like to recant his claims about the Patriots.

Ayanbadejo, the Ravens linebacker who ripped the Patriots on Twitter Sunday night over Spygate and an offense that Ayanbadejo described as a “gimmick,” returned to Twitter on Monday morning and said he was sorry for what he had said.

Ayanbadejo’s comments about the Patriots were surprising and out of character for a player who’s generally viewed around the NFL as intelligent and levelheaded. The Patriots said they didn’t particularly care about anything anyone was saying in the social media, so any talk that Ayanbadejo’s tweets would make their way to a bulletin board at the Patriots’ facilities can be dismissed.

But that doesn’t mean the Ravens were happy that one of their players spoke out of turn like that. It seems likely that Ravens coach John Harbaugh or someone else in the team’s leadership leaned on Ayanbadejo to apologize and move on.

Has anything good ever come from an athlete posting something on twitter? If I were a coach I would ban my players from using it.

In other words, “Ray Lewis just got off to phone chewing my a$$. He was screaming something about bulletin board material, and he said if I didn’t apologize I would be very sorry. I am very scared right now because he is CRAZY!”

I am a Patriots fan and I think it is silly that Ayanbadejo was made to apologize. The trash talk makes it more fun.
Let him run his mouth. Makes it more interesting on the day of the game to see if he can back it up with his play.

Blah Blah Blah, keep hating the guy because he plays special teams. Doesn’t change that what he said is true.

Patriots cheated. Even 2 seasons ago, Josh McDaniels was caught spying on the 49ers. Since they took that away from them, they run gimmicky super-hyper hurry up offense to score points.

Works well until you run into a real defense like the 49ers, and then all those hurry-ups turn into 3 and outs taking away only 10 seconds off the clock.

FACT is, Patriots haven’t won any hardware since being exposed.

  11. kepdogg23 says: Jan 14, 2013 11:33 AM

The only gimmick here is a lifetime special teamer tricking people into following his twitter account.

  12. azarkhan says: Jan 14, 2013 11:34 AM

Smart move on his part. BTW, I would think that within the next five years, every team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations will be able to run a no-huddle, hurry up offense. Clearly it created mass confusion with the Texans defense in both games they played against the Patriots.

  13. watermelon1 says: Jan 14, 2013 11:34 AM

Hey ayanbadejo… How about you worry about not letting the patriots return two kicks for touchdowns on your special teams unit like the broncos did!

    Until then… Shut up!

  14. grantgoodman93 says: Jan 14, 2013 11:35 AM

He should be watching tape of how to fix their special teams that got obliterated by the Broncos.

  15. patriotsdefense says: Jan 14, 2013 11:38 AM

The Patriots don’t care about some backup special teamer running his mouth. The Patriots motivation will come from the fact that everyone outside of Maryland thought Tucker missed that Week 3 kick to the right.

In fact if all the guy is looking for is attention then this would just bring even more.

  18. mpnieland says: Jan 14, 2013 11:41 AM

Obviously Brendon never learned from Steelers Safety Anthony Smith that you don’t want to bad mouth the Patriots. That “gimmick” offense is likely to make you pay in a big way.

  19. j0esixpack says: Jan 14, 2013 11:42 AM

As far as the Offense, the Patriots run a near perpetual hurry-up. They have the players with the intelligence and ability to carry it out.

Other teams Defenses lack the players with the intelligence and ability to stop it. They thus assert it should be made illegal – since it currently violates no rules.

As far as Spygate, there is no question that the Patriots violated a new 2006 rule in the first game of the 2007 season regarding where signal filming cameras could be located.

If Ayanbadejo is as intelligent as people say, he realizes that even today, coordinators throughout the league STILL cover their mouths when calling in plays.

WHY? Because signal filming (from NFL authorized locations) continues today. Players and fans alike constantly show how unintelligent they are asserting that signal filming is or ever has been illegal. The NFL rules allow for it.

It’s simply amazing how so many athletes just don’t learn from the long string of *(^%-ups on Twitter by other athletes. How many players have been dropped from their college teams for offensive tweets? How many have lost their sponsors? How many have motivated their opponent? Why do it all? I guess we now know who Ayanbadejo is, except that all I know now is that he’s not too bright and looks like a complete ‘roid freak. Great advertising!!!

  22. cags777 says: Jan 14, 2013 11:50 AM

Then again, didn’t Welker make and continue to opine on Rex Ryan’s foot fetish to the media resulting in an early benching in a playoff game against the Patriots?

  23. psousa1 says: Jan 14, 2013 11:51 AM

Give it time. Idiot Boy Suggs will surely be saying something. Last year he shot his mouth off and you did not even know the defensive MVP even played in the title game. He got hammered by Gronkowski on a run block and you never heard his name again. Comes up small when it’s on the line.

The kid Kruger is playing good football, so is the LB, Ellerbee, who is listed as a backup is a damn good player. Reed is one of the greatest safety’s in league history. I think the Broncos should have played hurry up. They went no huddle but it was not a hurry up. The Ravens D was gassed but Manning brought them up to the line of scrimmage and took his time.

  24. ravenator says: Jan 14, 2013 11:51 AM

“Intelligent and level headed” must be journalese for outspoken supporter of gay marriage. Ayanbadejo should apologize for his comments about the Patriots and should also spend more time thinking about his lane assignments since he was responsible for missing TH on his kickoff return TD.

He’d probably do better to spend less time on commentary and more time helping his team.

Your right, scoring 34 points on SF means they killed us – you idiot. First off, camera location was the problem, seeing as how cameras still roll to this day. Second off, if the Pats have finished every season 9-7 and missed the playoffs or lost first round since 07, then you would have an arguement. But, since they have been in 5 in the last 11 years, and are about to be in their 6th, you have no arguement. Not being able to “cheat” isnt the reason Asante drops a game ending pick, tyree has glue on his hands, or Welker drops the ball…get over yourself, you only hate because your team blows….

  47. patriotinvasion says: Jan 14, 2013 1:11 PM

If anyone wants to talk about actual football, I think the Patriots win for the reasons below:

1.) The Patriots have made an effort to be more balanced this year and give defenses more to worry about than Gronk, Welker, and Hernandez. Their running game is much more explosive with Ridley and you saw Vareen (another 2nd rounder) add another weapon to the mix yesterday.

2.) The Ravens just played over 5 quarters of football across the country and expelled a lot of energy to get that win. They are an older team and that travel and fatigue can be tough, especially against a fast paced team like the Patriots

3.) In case you haven’t noticed, the Patriots defense is actually good now. The Talib trade has changed everything and they can now do a lot of things on defense that they were afraid to do a year ago. McCourty’s speed at safety improves that position as well and they are tough to run on with Mayo, Spikes, and Hightower (SEC studs).

We’ll find out Sunday, but I’m rollin’ with Belichick and Brady.

His comments about a “gimmick offense” are untrue. Tom Brady snaps the ball as soon as it is placed down because he can. Why have the refs not called them anytime they have done this. This also leads me to believe that the Patriots are the most mentally and physically conditioned team in the league. They never look tired or wore down even late in games. They line up legally and then they go. If it’s a gimmick then why hasn’t anyone stopped them. No offense is perfect and most of the time it’s lack of execution that does the Patriots in as well as most teams. With those comments this also leads me to believe that alot of the NFL teams are out of shape and undisciplined. The Patriots work long and hard to get the offense like the way it is and everyone on the teams is always ready. The game between the Ravens and Patriots will be great with both tough teams clashing one more time for the season.

Not a Pats fan at all, but I’m so glad I’m not the only one who understands this. Montana had the weakest arm of anyone in a GOAT quarterback discussion, with a career average YPC of 7.5. That would only put him at 11th highest in the NFL this season. Not saying Brady or Montana were dink-and-dunkers, but that the negative connotation needs to be taken out of that phrase. If you can dink and dunk it all the way down field, control the clock and win games, that’s all that counts. I’ll take a QB who throws nothing but flats and screens at a 70% completion percentage over a guy with a cannon and a 55% completion rating any day of the week.

Pats fans shouldn’t even talk about gimmicks. Brady kept doing this thing yesterday where he pretended like he was going to hand the ball off to his running back but then stopped and threw it instead. I don’t know how that it wasn’t flagged: I guess the refs just want Belicheat and New England to win.

It’s OK though, these gimmicky fad offenses don’t work for long. Just look at Washington, the very second Griffin ripped every ligament in his knee, he wasn’t as good as he was before ripping every ligament in his knee.

Pats fans shouldn’t even talk about gimmicks. Brady kept doing this thing yesterday where he pretended like he was going to hand the ball off to his running back but then stopped and threw it instead. I don’t know how that it wasn’t flagged: I guess the refs just want Belicheat and New England to win.”

Lol do you know the slightest thing about football ? You mean the play action fakes and fake handoffs that every team in the league uses ? All 32 of them. That are entirely legal.

Oh that’s right, when the people who hate the Pats can’t come up with anything real to blame the Pats for you just claim that the Pats doing something entirely legal is cheating.

    Roflcoaster that’s just sad man.

Um, I could be wrong here but I think he was being sarcastic.

“Lol” do you know the slightest thing about humor? Not only was that obviously a joke, but even prefaced it with another sarcastic comment to give it context, so everyone (or so I thought) would know I was kidding.

Also, did you just use the word “Roflcoaster” before insulting somebody? That’s just sad man.

That’s ok. He’ll be sharing crow (or Raven, NO PUN INTENTED) with his other teammates in the locker room during halftime next week.

Angry will, you really should get yourself some help, dude; the professional kind, not the pipe. No, you’re right, Brady is horrible, but the refs make him look good. Sometimes, they even throw the pass for him. Try watching a sport you can actually comprehend, like marbles or something.
