Take away Holliday’s 2 kick returns and what did Manning do? I blame Fox, Manning and Bailey more for the loss than the Bronco defensive back who blew one play.

====================================

Reminds me of that Giants/9ers playoff game back in 02 (I think). The Giants defense blew a HUGE lead, and their long snapper botched the snap to win the game. Did Strahan and the defense get the blame? No the long snapper did.

You have Peyton Manning, 31 seconds left and two timeouts. Ball on the 20 yard line. You down the ball, run the clock out, and hope for overtime.

You have Matt Ryan, 25 (31 before kick return) seconds left and two timeouts. Ball on the 28 yard line. You move the ball to your opponents 32 yard line in two plays, kick a 49 yard field goal WITH 13 seconds left, and win the game.

Am I missing something here?

Okay, Matt Ryan has Julio Jones, Roddy White, and Tony Gonzalez. Well, Peyton Manning has Demerius Thomas, Eric Decker, and Brandon Stokely. Okay, so you could say they aren't as good of recievers as Ryan has, but I would also rather be facing the Ravens corners then Brandon Browner and Richard Sherman. And Ryan didn't use White or Jones on that last drive. He used Harry Douglas and Tony Gonzalez.

And one more thing. You can make a very long field goal (don't tell Matt Bryant that) a lot easier at Mile High stadium because there is simply less air at high altitudes (which is why it is so hard to breath there), and therefore less resistance when the ball travels.

But what you and every other Manning basher fail to realize is that he defense STUNK for the majority of his career.

Yes, lots of blame to go around . . . sloppy play from Manning . . . Champ Baily exposed as old and slow . . . and some bad play calling. On a couple of 3rd-and-longs, the Broncs called running plays instead of having Manning throw it. And they both resulted in punts. They just didn't look like a team that wanted to win.

That was true only until the 2006 playoffs. It has not been true at all since. He's had one of the best defenses in football since that time. It's true, look it up.

Peyton played a good game. 1st INT off receivers hands (couldn't put it any better), fumble...arm hit as attempting to throw (don't think he gained control and should have been an incomplete pass). WR dropped passes on third down. But the big thing giving up at least 3 TD's on passes of 50 yards or more....Champ Bailey giving up 2. The DB's were terrible and then no rush on Ryan at end of regulation...gave him too much time to throw. Denver downs just before the final Baltimore drive should of put the ball in Mannings hands with 3rd down and 5 yards to go. Then they decided to try a long field goal.....should have pin Baltimore back. Peyton did good.....but DB's and coaching were the reason we lost....not the last play of the game. Should never have been to that point.

Manning did play well enough to win, although he obviously made a couple of mistakes. But it’s Denver’s SECONDARY that lost the game for them. They made Joe Flacco look like Joe Montana (which isn’t necessarily easy to do).

Put it this way. When the Redskins secondary finds a way to stop Flacco and your team’s secondary doesn’t, that means your team’s secondary had a very, very bad day.

The Redskins' secondary didn't stop Flacco, Cam Cameron stopped Flacco, and that's why he was promptly fired the next day.

His arm was fine in that Superbowl. He threw spirals to Dallas Clark that I've never seen before.

I don't think your completely wrong though. That is, Manning in the biggest games doesn't take the same chances as he does during the regular season. I would say defenses that are good BAIT him to take what THEY give him. The Ravens have played him enough to know his tendencies and Manning is predictable.

I'm a Saints fan. So, I've watched that superbowl over and over again. One of the things that struck me about that game was the Colts didn't throw the ball deep except twice. Once it was overthrown and the other time was when the game was decided. I think that something was wrong with his arm then. This weekend was know exception. Although; I believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that if Fox would have allowed Manning to throw the ball when the Colts were trying to salt the game away, manning would have completed the pass and the Ravens would be home now

Ravensfan19 - I'm a long time Broncos fan, and I couldn't agree more. Here's what I saw. Ha, yea. Weapons like David Givens, David Patten, Antoine Smith, and Deion Branch, who did nothing in Seattle.

Meanwhile Peyton had Marvin Harrison,Reggie Wayne, Edge, and Dallas Clark, and a spectacular offensive line.

Btw Cassell made the playoffs the very next season he was traded.

You have no idea what you’re talking about.

--------------------------------------------------------

sorry mjdk100 but you don't know what you are talking about. That 11-5 season that casell started, they DID NOT make the play off's. go read up son.

Also, Manning had good weapons, but he also made those weapons better by his work ethic and knowledge of the game

But what you and every other Manning basher fail to realize is that he defense STUNK for the majority of his career. And once again yesterday his DEFENSE didn't show up. A 1:09 left in the game, , 77 yards away with no time out's and on one of the worse air balls ever thrown they give up a touchdown.

And last but not least let's not forget who he had a lot of those bad games against and let's not forget who was later to be found guilty of cheating. So we will never know if those games were played on an even playing field.

All respect to Peyton, Fox, and the Broncos because that is largely what I have for them, but Peyton did NOT play well enough for you to win. You're offense was spotted 14 points by Trindon Holliday because Peyton only scored 21. If we likewise remove Ravens points that were not scored off of TOs, the score is still 28-21, the Ravens offense with the 28.. This is all moot because a game will never have that exact outcome ever again and theoretically never would if you could just simulate it over and over.

The Broncos had no Willis McGahee or Knowshon Moreno to block for Manning. After Moreno went out there was no pocket. Can Manning play well without a pocket? No. Did he choke with an interception in the 2nd overtime? Maybe, but Prater choked in the first half and the secondary had more people choking than Jonestown. Plenty of blame to go around, including Fox's decision-making. The officiating was horrible... It was a meltdown...

As far as Manning and Brady being media darlings, I agree, but is anyone more of a media darling / totally washed up has been than Ray Lewis?

I couldn't agree more. The Ravens are a tough, battle tested team that can beat anyone. Sunday should be a great game.

Hey Donkey fans, I really enjoyed seeing your HOF quarterback choke again during the " big " game. Manning and the donkeys have been hyped all year by the media who worship Manning trying to make some type of sensational story where there is none. The fact is the donkeys played in the AFC west where they get to play the Chiefs, the Raiders, and the Chargers twice a year. This is what happens when you start to believe the media hype only problem is the Ravens weren't buying it. It's going to be an interesting season next year with the Chargers having a new GM and Head Coach and the Chiefs with a proven coach who's seen the Super Bowl and the playoffs many times. Manning's skills are going to do nothing but decline the next few years, hope betting the farm on an over the hill QB still seems like a good move when you have salary cap issues for the next 4 years.

One of those quarterbacks was Tom Brady, who was named MVP of that Super Bowl.

One of those quarterbacks was Trent Dilfer against the Ravens, the go-to counterpoint of measuring a QB’s success by rings alone.

There’s a good reason why guys like Dilfer/Johnson/Rypien have won only 1 Super Bowl. And guys like Brady have won more.
------------------------------------------------
Brady's only won 14 more playoff games than Dilfer. Good comparison.
