Although police say Titans receiver Kenny Britt is refusing to cooperate in an investigation into a stabbing and shooting in New Jersey over the weekend, Britt released a statement through a spokesman saying he will talk to police.
Police in Bayonne, New Jersey initially said Britt dropped his brother off at a hospital with a stab wound late on Saturday night, and that Britt was in the area of a shooting that took place a few hours later. Britt’s spokesman said the person who was stabbed was a close friend of Britt’s, not his brother, and that Britt is willing to cooperate in the investigation.
“Kenny was leaving a dinner cooked by his friends’ parents when he found his friend, who had left earlier, injured outside,” the statement provided to the Jersey Journal said. “Kenny immediately brought his friend to the hospital and was there with the injured friend’s family for several hours, but was not otherwise involved in the incident. It was not a house party, Kenny’s brother was not injured (and wasn’t even there) and Kenny has made himself available to cooperate with the authorities investigation of this matter.”
Britt has had several previous run-ins with the law, and he was suspended for the first game of the 2012 season for violations of the league’s personal conduct policy.
