As has been pointed out the Rookie of the Year award is a regular season award, so the idea that the last two weeks should change people’s minds is invalid.

We had a great crop of rookies this year, but I think the Seahawks improvement was across the board and not just at the QB position. Luck and Griffin gave the better individual contributions. Naturally these awards are often popularity contests and there’s no doubt that Griffin is the most popular and personally dynamic of the crop, so I suspect he’ll win.

In the end, Wilson played in the best division in football. Partially thanks to him.
For all the reasons that the author said, especially the calm and the leadership and the accuracy, I think Wilson is the rookie of the year.

Thing is Wilson will have a long football life with Superbowl wins , pro bowls and a long coaching life after. RG will have 5 or 6 injury riddled seasons and then have a seat with Randell Cuningham and Michael Vick.

RG3 hurt his knee because of a freak hit from the fat draws in Baltimore. Ravens couldn’t stop him so he was targeted. All year he was targeted. That’s the only way they could stop him. I like Wilson but he kinda came on late. RG3 has played at a high level since game one. My opinion is R3 is 2012 NFL R.O.Y… HTTR

From listening to Wilson, SB is what he’s after so I won’t be surprised that he will take the Hawks to the SB and win it next year. The Hawks are very lucky to draft him. What a remarkable young man!!!

The variation on this board proves to me that Russell Wilson did not prove anything. Fact is, this will be the toughest vote for ROY that I can remember, and Florios cheerleading will not change the publics mind. It will be a divided vote, and whoever wins it will deserve to win it.

Too bad only one of them can win. There are actually 4 rookies (on offense) that had OUTSTANDING seasons, RGIII, Wilson, Luck and A Morris and it’s a shame only one of them will be picked. A case could be made for all.

Everyone here is crazy. Trying to determine who’s the better qb is going to be impossible. they all have a strong case. that is why alfred morris should win the award. think about it, he was drafted in the 6th round out of Florida Atlantic. he was second in the LEAGUE in rushing only behind AP and second in the LEAGUE in touchdowns only behind Arian Foster. To top it off, in his final regular (win or go home) season game against the cowboys(one of the biggest rivalries in football), he rushed for 200 yards and 3 touchdowns. all the nominees have great intangibles and are good people, but you will not find a person in the nfl thats more humble then morris, he doesn’t want the spot light, he just wants to win football games and drive his 1992 mazda. someone please argue against my case!

I’m a Skins fan and I think Alfred Morris should be ROY or in the top 2 behind RG3. RG3′s style opened up big holes for Morris.

Here’s why I don’t buy the argument that “Luck took a 2-14 team to 11-5″ as a reason that Luck deserves the Rookie of the year.

Think about it, with Payton Manning, the Colts were always 13-3, 12-4 or at worst 11-5, they were always a very good team. When he got hurt and was out last year, they fell to 2-14. So without a good quarterback, they fell to 2-14, but with Manning, a great qb, they were always great. So this year, you add Luck into the mix, who is definitely gonna be a very good to great qb, they were back to 11-5. So Luck didn’t take a 2-14 team to 11-5, he took a team that was ALWAYS at least 11-5 before Manning got hurt back to where they were. So obviously this team was always talented. If u put the Colts starter from last year, Painter I believe, as the starting qb on any of the top teams in the league, they’d be much worse, and it doesn’t mean those teams aren’t talented, they just had a whack qb.

With that being said, and the fact that Luck led the entire NFL in turnovers this year, either RGIII or RW3 should be ROY. I’m a Seahawks fan so I’m biased and think Wilson should get it, but RG only had 4 int’s to go with 20-sumthin td’s and minus injury could’ve possibly ran for 1,000 yards too, so it’s definitely a tough one, but they should be 1-2 in the voting, no doubt in my mind.

Considering the fact that Luck and Griffin were taken with the first two picks, isn’t it kinda to be expected that those two would have pretty good years?

The thing with Wilson is that nobody even expected him to even win the starting job, let alone play at a high level in the NFL. He was taken in the 3rd round as opposed to the 1st and put up comparable numbers to Luck and Griffin.

Another point worth mentioning is that Wilson didn’t even really come on until the second half of the season which should make it all the more impressive for Wilson.

Compare Wilson to Kaep as they are team players who don’t put themselves before the group by running into big hits and playing injured at 80% when 100% isn’t even good enough.

Compare RG3 to Vick. Both only care about themselves. They run too early, read progressions too slow, fumble like crazy, play injured bc they are afraid of losing their job to the backup. Look at Vick’s stats for his second eerily similar to RG3.

Mark my words RG3 is a cancer, playing injured in the playoff tells the rest of his team his vanity is his primary concern not winning at all costs which sometimes means sitting the bench.

I read all these comments and I see a lot of valid arguments for each of the four players that should be considered. In reality, probably more people who shouldn’t be arguing their point because it’s obvious they spend more time eating hot dogs then watching the game & just don’t know enough about football to judge. First, what is the criteria for winning ROY? A winning record? Stats? Poise under pressure? Pure ability & talent? How hot their giflfriend/wife is? Perserverance? An outrageously awesome face guard? Making the players around them better? Progression? Maybe a combination of all?
When you look at Luck, he started the season brilliant. But as the season progressed his completion percentage dropped signifactly. Now whether that was due to how much time he spent on his butt from the many many hits he was taking, who knows. But it happened. Yes, he turned that team around and probably did less with more, but he didn’t really make continual progress every week. He threw a lot of interceptions, but he also had thrown the most passes and was asked the most of himself by the coaches from the outset. How about that RG3!?! The guy is a stud. He is gonna sell a ton of shoes & Gatorade. He’s flashy. I’m surprised he doesn’t have a diamond studded gold grille when we see that gorgeous smile. Accurate as Robin Hood with his passes; he’s always on target. Oh, and the speed of the kid is off the charts. Some of the best runs by a QB ever and he makes it look easy. Only 5 INTs all season. Wow! But, his health is an issue. I sure hope he doesn’t end up like Vick, always injured because he plays just a little too loose and not smart. He needs to remember he is the franchise QB and not his other outstanding rookie teammate he is usually standing behind him. And how about that guy, Alfred Morris was a bear. He mauled opposing defenses and his power running ability was not only outstanding for a rookie, but it opened the door for some of those great RG3 runs downfield. That duo is gonna be real fun to watch for years. Now up in Seattle, they got one hell of a surprise. It’s like when you were a kid and you got a happy meal and got exactly the toy you were looking for. How stoked is Pete Carroll!?! Russell Wilson has poise. I mean real veteran poise. If you didn’t know better watching tape of him, you would think he’s been in the league for a decade. He started the season slow, but he was efficient. Then, half way thru, Pete unleashed DangeRuss. Things got crazy. Wilson led the Hawks on an unprecedented points bonanza the league hasn’t seen since way before the merger. His reads on the option were smooth as silk. Wilson has the best play action I’ve seen since Farve. Did I mention the poise in the pocket yet? If RG3 is Robin Hood, then RDub is John Wayne with football. Oh and he kinda tied Peyton Manning’s rookie TD record.
So, who should get ROY? I’m going with Russell Wilson. Not because of any of those SHINFO football facts I just spit, but because Russell’s wife, Ashton, is smoking hot…. Even that whole exorcism face when he got drafted was off the charts. LoL. Now that was magical. Just like this past season has been for all these rookies. Go Hawks!!!!

I understand why is everyone is drooling over Kapernick. He’s fast and athletic and a stud QB but when RG3 and Wilson do the same they are labeled “running ” QBs? I like Kaep but I think it sucks he is praised for the same style of play as RW and RG3.

I am a Seahawks fan, and I would harbor no resentment if RG3 got the award. He’s a special young player, like Wilson he is mature beyond his years.

I would vote for Wilson, but as many have said, it’s pointless to elevate one excellent player over another based on the slimmest of differences.

So instead, I’ll just say this. My quarterback put the team on his back to win a game in Chicago, a game nobody gave us a chance to win. He won the game with a heroic 97 yard drive that ended with less than 20 seconds left. Then his defense blew it the only way they could have, by allowing a 56 yard pass with almost no time left.

Most QBs would have bitched or at least been pissed off, but Wilson just strapped up and got to work. He put his team on his back AGAIN and won the game on the first possession of overtime.

Fast forward to the playoffs. Wilson all but completes the biggest 4th quarter comeback in playoff history. With the biggest statistical rookie performance ever in the playoffs, breaking a record set in 1937. Then his defense, again, finds a way to ruin it. And that’s the season. A real shot at being the first rookie to win it all, flushed away like it was nothing.

A lot of QBs would not handle that situation well. But as Wilson ran off the field, he felt not anger but excitement. Excitement for his next game, just 8 months away.

When reporters looked for Wilson during the Locker cleanout, he was strangely absent. They would later learn that he was already busy watching game film. Seriously.

Keep an eye on this Wilson kid. He’s going to be in some rarefied air before it’s all over. And that’s all that really matters to us Seahawks fans.

Enough of the “Luck took over a 2-14 team and led them to the playoffs…”

Lets not forget about all the circumstances behind Indy’s suck for luck campaign. They had curtis painter filling in for P Manning. Curtis Painter!!!! Of course they went 2-14. Plus they knew they needed the “next manning.”

Andrew luck in 2012, had most of the same pieces intact as manning had in 2010.

Luck is not R Dub or rg3 caliber. Maybe next year… Russell and Robert were studs this year. Luck was pretty good. Dont get it backwards.

We can all argue lots of points FOR RG3, Wilson and Luck. What about arguments AGAINST? One could argue against Luck due to his inferior stats compared to RG3 and Wilson. One could argue against RG3 due to his inability to stay healthy EVERY week. What argument could one use against Wilson? I don’t see any credible arguments here.

I don’t know about that. Wilson like RG3 is fast. Wilson like RG3 is accurate. Wilson like RG3 can escape the pocket. However it’s not known how good RG3 is in tight pressure situations, especially playoffs as the injury due to their bad turf did hamper him, even though he did make quite a few mistakes to the end of the playoff game. Wilson on the other hand has shown in both playoff games, he lives for the pressure.

His face is completely stoic. No smile, no frown, no nothing. It’s like he’s simply going to work.
