I think it's funny that every team seems to be chasing the latest, greatest offensive innovator as their head coach because that's the trend.

Meanwhile, the final four coaches this year consist of (1) former college coach, (1) former special teams coach, and (2) former defensive coordinators.

Maybe teams should realize that you can have a great offense by hiring a great offensive coordinator. He doesn't necessarily have to run the whole team.

Better they take too long and finally coax someone decent then panic and sign up Captain Chudzinski as Banner's puppet after being basically rebuffed by Kelly, Marrone, Whisenhunt, Saban and told not to even bother asking by Cowher and Gruden.
They weren't bidding against anybody for Chud's services and had yet to even interview Arians or any of the coordinators from the playoff teams. Haslam and Banner realized that they were getting failing grades in the media and fans were informed enough to know that desirable coaches were not lining up, regardless of their deep pockets, to take the Browns job.
After failing to secure a proven NFL winner in Whisenhunt they jumped into the contract sack with Chudzinski before the next news cycle brought further criticism.
While he and Norv may actually help the offense since his vertical system looks like a much better fit for current players, his likely hire of a 3-4 DC will cause massive roster overhaul and seasons to implement.
Conclusion: Chud would have made a good OC.

Woody Johnson needs to suck it up and let Rex Ryan go. He has turned the Jets into the new laughing stock of the NFL. Most of the top GM candidates probably have a hard time taking The Jets and The Rex Circus seriously.

As much as the Jets are what you call a "laughing stock' he can coach and motivate players the Jets did not have any talent especially offensively this year and a QB that was a TO machine especially in redzone...as bad as the Jets situation is in the last 4 years under his helm the only teams that have more playoff victories aside from the SB winners which we wont count because that is the name of the game NO OTHER TEAM has more playoff wins (Ravens tied Sunday) and that includes Pats

I'd like to see both Whisenhunt and Arians find a head-coaching spot. Whis did a great job in Arizona--where no one had really succeeded before. Unfortunately, his QB left. He might do very well in San Diego with Phil Rivers. And Arians may be one of the few coaches who could work well with Cutler as long as he has a tough defense in place.

This year seems to be unique. In previous years, these vacancies seemed to be resolved very quickly. Is it lack of viable candidates, or that viable candidates are spurning new NFL opportunities, or the present NFL opportunities less than stellar (such as avoiding perennially bad teams)? Are teams getting picky or are coaches and potential GMs? Appears like a little of both maybe. The money seems to be evening out for NFL vs. elite college positions. Seems like, why would you leave a good solid college job to get marginal more money to go to the NFL if you have alumni and fan support and make the move just to risk getting you ass handed to you in the NFL? All the hires in the NFL so far have been less than impressive. Seems like those jobs are less desirable than in the past. To further complicate the issue, you have the Grudens and Cowhers in the world staying in broadcasting instead of strongly considering NFL jobs. What's with that?
