APAs the Browns search for a new General Manager, CEO Joe Banner says there’s a frontrunner for the job. But, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Banner won’t say who it is.
Banner added that the first wave of interviews will include roughly six candidates.
We reported last night that Chiefs director of pro personnel Ray Farmer is believed to be the leader for the job. Other candidates include former NFL executive Mike Lombardi. The Browns at one point sought permission to interview Vikings assistant G.M. George Paton, but Paton declined or the Vikings denied permission, or maybe both.

Please no Lombardi….please no Lombardi…
Joe described the individual as a front runner and bandwagon jumper.
Dear God, please get the Browns a GM so fans of the other 31 teams don’t have to keep reading about the Cleveland Browns.
Because…..
It’s Joe Banner!
I’m thinking anyone talented enough & truly worthy of “frontrunner” status should be busy running hard in the opposite direction away from this particular job …
insert Lombardi as foreman to oversee the Factory of Sadness production
Wow what a gig! The GM has to take orders from a 1st time head coach who was at best an average coordinator. Man, who wouldn’t line up for that opportunity to wreck his resume?
I’m still not sure what sense it makes to hire a head coach before you hire a gneral manager?
Did I just read that the frontrunner is the Chiefs Director of Pro Personnel? Is that what the Browns want? Have they not seen what has happened there the past 5 years?
Banner thought he said his name was VINCE Lombardi!
