Toub on his way out of Chicago after head coach interview

Bears special teams coach interviewed for the team’s head coaching vacancy, but he isn’t on the short list for it, and won’t be hanging around to work with the next guy.

According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, Toub is “definitely,” leaving the Bears, and is expected to take a lateral move to the Chiefs though no announcement has been made on that front.

Toub also interviewed with the Panthers for a special teams job, but is thought to be leaning toward joining Andy Reid instead. Reid gave Toub his first NFL job in Philadelphia, and the two worked together in the college ranks as well.

While Toub is recognized as one of the top special teams coaches in the business, keeping him to work for the guy who beat him out for the head coaching job would have been awkward, and frankly a distraction the new coach doesn’t need.

It really sucks that the Bears are losing Toub. Their special teams has been among the best year in and year out because of him. Still though, I don’t fault him for wanting to leave. He got slighted last year as well when he tried to get promoted to offensive coordinator. He probably would have been better than Vanilla Tice too.

still love that called fake punt return by Hester last year while the other guy ran untouched for a TD…shame about the penalty that called it back though…Brilliant design!

Not happy about this at all, but can’t say I blame him. I’m still more worried about Marinelli staying or not.

As a Packer fan, I couldn’t agree more. It is a shame it was called back. It was one of the best fakes I have ever seen.
