On the same day the Eagles interviewed Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly, they dusted off their pursuit of Oregon coach Chip Kelly.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Eagles resumed contact with Chip Kelly’s agent, David Dunn, on Tuesday night, January 8. The decision to reach out again to Chip Kelly came after the interview with Brian Kelly, which occurred in Nashville that same day.

The communications between Dunn and G.M. Howie Roseman (with owner Jeffrey Lurie involved from time to time) continued until the process accelerated within the last 30 hours.

Until very recently, the Eagles believed there was a remote chance Chip Kelly would take the job. Even after a nine-hour meeting with Chip Kelly at the Four Seasons in Scottsdale, Arizona on Saturday, January 5, the Eagles did not believe Chip Kelly would leave Oregon.

Chip Kelly apparently didn’t, either. But something he heard in the last couple of days changed that.
