If the comments concerning the Oregon D-coordinator are correct, it would seem that whomever gets the Eagles DC job will be able to run his own program with impunity. Lovie Smith wants to hold out for a HC job next year if he has to, but he would , in effect, be as independent as a head coach if he took the Philly DC job.

Seems to me all I’ve been reading on here is that Chip Kelly was their first choice, and now they’ve landed their first choice. Looks like they knew exactly what they were doing, now didn’t they.

Just saw comments from Oregon’s D Coordinator. “In 4 years Kelly never talked to me during games, never attended a defensive meeting, never mentioned when we played poorly or played well”.
So in other words Kelly doesn’t give a crap about defense. In the NFL he’ll have seven picks in the draft and a budget for free agency. How much of that will be spent on Defense?
Kelly’s got the hot offense right now but it will eventually be solved and Kelly will be one more failed NFL coach.

Wow, sounds like Kelly got desperate at the 11th hour and so did the Eagles. Not exactly a recipe for success…. or maybe it will at least be a success for Chip Kelly & his agent when he is collecting paychecks two years after he has been fired by Philly. Then he can return back to Oregon when the sanctions have been lifted.

Yeah, tell me the last time ESPN “reporters” admitted that they were wrong with one of their reporters. To hear them tell it, they are always first and always right–even when someone else says it before them and/or gets the facts straight and they don’t. To say otherwise is heresy, sacrilege, and apostasy.

I’m now waiting for PFT to take back some of their remarks about the Eagles being “clueless”.

I think that Ray Charles could have seen this coming, and God rest his soul, he is dead, blind, and buried. Anytime a coach says “I’m not interested in leaving this fine institution and these great young men, etc etc” chances are his bags are by the door and the limo is rolling, trying to beat the NCAA cops to the front door !!There are only a hanful of QB’s in the league capable of running his system, and the jobs in S.F., Carolina, Washington and Seattle were already filled. I assume that Vick had to get on board with this hire and promise to play like he did 10 yrs ago, and to take a huge pay cut. If Vick is out or not capable, look for another Spurrier type record and a return to college in 3 yrs or less

Everyone seems to think that Chip Kelly won’t leave Oregon and that Knight is some how pulling strings behind the scenes with more $. I think this all comes down to control. Parcells said it best. These executives/owners want you to cook the dinner but they wont let you do the grocery shopping. Chip Kelly’s offense requires specific players to run that scheme and if they won’t let him have control over personal, why should he take the job? I’d bet this is why it fell apart with Kelly in Tampa Bay last year too. Philly makes the most sense with Kelly’s offense and they know it but he’s not going anywhere if he doesn’t have final say over future players. Bet on it.

Boy, I remember being really excited when the Redskins hired Spurrier. He was going to revolutionize the NFL and we were going to experience a return to greatness (a level the Eagles have never acheived). I don’t recall that it worked out like I thought it would though…

He heard that he would never be taken seriously as a potential NFL coach again after this season. This is actually good news for the U as Chip Kelly will decide to coach there once he’s fired from the Eagles so they can hire Al Golden in a couple years.
