Getty ImagesThe 49ers will have a trio of honorary captains when San Francisco squares off against the Falcons on Sunday, as the Niners stand on the doorstep of the Super Bowl.
Two of them are on the doorstep of a fairly important doorstep of their own.
Eddie DeBartolo, Jr., Charles Haley, and Bryant Young will represent the team. DeBartolo and Haley are finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The 49ers will be trying for their sixth Super Bowl appearance. They are 5-0 in NFL title games, but it has been 18 years since their last time to the top of the mountain.

I didn’t know Eddie DeBartolo was out of prison !
Haley definitely belongs in the HOF.
Yeah clearly you don’t know too much, as he was never in prison.
Bryant Young is a 49ers beast!
I sure hope Charles Haley chilled out or that is going to be an uncomfortable flight for everyone!
From a fan’s point of view, even though the way it ended wasn’t right, Eddie D is the type of owner all fans want and one of the best ever. He has helped guide Jed and it shows. Don’t get me wrong Jed gets the credit…but Eddie helped him turn this thing around in short order (along with HarBaalke of course) but someone had to help Jed find these guys; it was Uncle D.
Congrats to all of them! BY is one of my favorites; he’s a super cool dude if you ever get a chance to meet him.
Go 9ers!

How are they 5-0 in title games when they lost to the Giants last year?
Super Bowl 5-0 dummy
Won/Loss record aside, it is amazing to think that The Patriots have more title game appearances than San Francisco. Ownership investment and pre-salary cap era strategies definitely figure into the won loss record. Debartolo invested heavily into his team at a time when you could buy Superbowls. I’m not faulting him. That was good ownership for the times. He loaded up on the best players money could buy. The Patriots were saddled with bad ownership for well over 30 years until kraft bought and rebuilt the organization in the mid 90′s, so I never thought they’d have more SB appearances than SF. But they do. Maybe they will both add another, and maybe we can see that record go to 5-1.
SAN FRAN6-0
Little bit of campaigning for the HoF going on in the ATL this weekend. Tacky. Falcons sending them home.
Eddie done his time. Now he’s doin’ fine.
It’s too bad the Falcons dont have any greats like these lol
