Rob Ryan to interview with Rams on Saturday

It’s been more than five minutes since he was fired by the Cowboys, but Rob Ryan might be closing in on a new job.

Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Ryan will interview with the Rams about becoming their defensive coordinator on Saturday. Ryan was fired after two seasons running the defense in Dallas, a turn of events he shrugged off by saying that he wouldn’t be out of work for five minutes before landing with another team.

It has looked like the Rams were going to be that team for a while now. There were reports last week that Ryan had accepted the coordinator job with the Rams, but those turned out not to be true. If all goes well with Saturday’s interview, there’s a good chance that they’ll move from incorrect to premature.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher played under Buddy Ryan, Rob’s father, when he was a member of the Bears in the 1980’s and served as the elder Ryan’s defensive coordinator with the Eagles. The Rams went without a defensive coordinator last season after Gregg Williams’ suspension left them without the man they hired to fill the role.

God knows they need a good laugh after the season they’ve had.

Jeff Fisher would be smart not to hire a Ryan.

As a Titans fan, I knew the Rams’ defense would be solid last season even without a defensive coordinator. That’s because, as a great a head coach as Jeff Fisher is, he’s an even more superior defensive mind. I, and countless fans in Tennessee, miss him more than ever right now. Yep, the good ol’ days . . .

He should do very well with Fisher. I like it.

I think it’s been way more than 5 minutes Rob.

If that doesn’t work out for Rob, I’m sure the Jets GM job will still be available.

Future headline in one year from today: Rams fire Rob Ryan.

As a Rams fan, I like the idea. Fisher is strong enough of a head coach that I think he can keep a leash on Ryan’s craziness.

I can see Fisher and Ryan putting together a dominate defense.

If Fisher does hire Rob Ryan his 1st rule of business should be to cut Rob Ryan’s tongue out of his mouth and teach him sign language, maybe then he might just stick to coaching.

Imagine there will be a lot of 46 looks coming from our D next season.

Get us a SAM and a really good FS and this D will dominate. Already has one of the best young D-Lines in football.

Loving having Coach Fisher in horns!!!

Actually, the first rule Fisher should tell Ryan is that he’s going to coach from the press box or not at all. Keep his act off the sidelines and off TV.

Ryan should do well under Fisher. I dont believe Ryan respected Ginger or Wrinkles. Fisher is a good defensive mind, a decent coach, & his experience working with the Ryan family will be a plus.

Ryan will flap his gums like he did in Dallas to fire up the opposing team and not his defense. What is Fisher thinking?
