Babich got the job at my alma mater when they were Division 2 power and ran the program into the ground before he was fired. They’ve since turned the program around and have won 2 straight FCS Championships.

Babich went to Chicago because he and Lovie were buddies at Tulsa. He coached linebackers, which were loaded, so he didn’t have to do anything but watch. He was promoted to the DC job in 2007 and ran that defense into the ground before being demoted.

I was glad that Gus got the Jax job, but hiring Babich gives me zero confidence in his success.

Hard to get a good read on these moves by the Jaguars. Koetter The Bum leaves and becomes Koetter The Genius; Tucker The Solid DC leaves and becomes Tucker The Bum. Same with the new guys coming in- some see them as bums, others see them as extremely competent.

There’s nowhere for the Jaguars to go but up and all these new faces and new energy have the fan base excited finally. I don’t know if they’ll ever be “elite” or even”any good” but at least it’s beginning to look like a pretty good ride.

I’m gonna guess that Gus Bradley will have a huge hand in the defensive playcalling. At least, Jaguars fans better hope so. Babich was terrible as a DC in Chicago with the same top-5 personnel that Ron Rivera had success with. Maybe he learned a thing or two, but I wouldn’t have hired him as anything but an LB coach.

Without a good group of talents, most coaches fail. Few exceptions where great coaches can succeed with a bad roster (as Jags.) Few coaches tank with a great roster like in Dallas.

Gus was hired a full day after chip Kelly and yet his staff is almost entirely set while there has been no news whatsoever that the newcomer Kelly has hired any assistants. Any eagles fans getting worried?

For all the bears fans laughing that the Jags got Babich, remind yourselves your new D coordinator Mel Tucker just took 3 consecutive years worth of dumps on our defense. You will love his bend and then break philosophy. When NFL players make fun of your generic scheme now instead of ours, I will not be hating life. I will be with 65000+ other Jaguars fans watching us finally attempt playing real defense. You all have fun getting 10 sacks a year as a team.

Gobble, gobble, turkey jive. There isn’t an iota of difference between the “talent” of coaches around the league. Pretty much all of them have good times and bad times. Pretty much all of them do the same thing. Dirk Koetter gets canned in Jax for having the worst offense in the league, turns up in Atlanta and has the best. Or one of the best at least. Did he suddenly become a great coach at 50, or whatever?

Babich and Fisch aren’t different from the guys who went before them in Jacksonville, or any of the other 60 odd people around the league who occupy the same jobs in other cities.

Gus what are you thinking man??? Your gonna be back coaching the Seattle secondary in a matter of a year or so.. Absolutely TERRIBLE hires to go alongside a TERRIBLE ROSTER. Gus your the man but i dont think you couldnt have made a worse decision with taking this job!! ( well other then the decision to hire these two clowns)

Woah. Don’t know why people are bashing on Bob Babich.

He wasn’t that bad. He had one ‘not-so-super’ with Chicago, but he was a really solid LBs coach.

This dude was behing Briggs + Urlacher all those years. Both LBs have raved about him. I’m going to miss him.

Wish him the best. Hopefully Mel Tucker can come in and maintain our D at a high level.

Bob Babich! Hahaha!

The Bears had a Top 5 defense in 2005 and 2006 under Ron Rivera. They slumped badly in 2007 and 2008 under Babich, who was promoted because he waa friends with Lovie Smith!

Banish was handed a stud defense in Chicago the year after they went to the Super Bowl & did an awful job. Lovie demoted him & became his own DC. Maybe he’s learned something since them, but it doesn’t bode we’ll for him.
