Bernard Pollard rips Tom Brady for trying to kick Ed Reed

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (R) slides in front of Baltimore Ravens free safety Ed Reed (20) during the second quarter in the NFL AFC Championship football game in Foxborough Reuters

When Tom Brady went into a feet-first slide with 20 seconds remaining in the first half of the AFC Championship Game, most people focused on the way Brady bungled the clock management on the play, preventing the Patriots from running another offensive play before halftime. But Ravens safety Bernard Pollard focused on something else.

According to Pollard, Brady intentionally lifted his right leg because he wanted to kick Ravens safety Ed Reed, who was pulling up to avoid hitting Brady on his slide.

You’ve got to keep them legs down,” Pollard said, via CSNNE.com. “You’ve go to keep the legs down. We all know and understand what’s going on there. And as a quarterback, when you go to slide, we’re taught . . . we can’t do anything. When you come sliding, and your leg is up in the air trying to kick somebody, that’s bull crap.”

It’s impossible to get inside Brady’s brain and say whether he was trying to kick Reed or whether his foot just came up awkwardly as he was sliding. In the same way, it’s impossible to get inside Ndamukong Suh’s brain and say whether he intentionally kicked Matt Schaub on Thanksgiving, or whether Suh’s foot just happened to go in the wrong place as he was falling near Schaub.

But the NFL saw enough on the Suh-Schaub kick to fine Suh $30,000. Now Pollard, the man who ended Brady’s 2008 season with a shot to his knee, thinks it’s time for the NFL to take a look at Brady.

I was furious when this happened. Brady is the first guy to pout when anyone comes near his legs. This was a dirty play and you can’t deny or defend it. If defenders have to constantly make adjustments with new player-safety rules, players on offense must do the same.

    I hope he’s fined at least $20k.

Critics can disagree but, the Football God’s got this Superbowl right!!! Both teams that lost last year in heartbreaking fashion in the Conference Championship will meet for the Lombardi this year & rightfully so!!!!!

  3. nashz84 says: Jan 21, 2013 7:26 AM

It was really border line Brady might of left his leg extended for a secound too long , but because this is his first questionable incident I will give him the benefit of the doubt

  4. wwwmattcom says: Jan 21, 2013 7:27 AM

Brady was scared. He was lucky he didn’t get hurt. Had he been wearing cleats and not turf shoes I would have thrown a flag.

  5. confusedfinfan says: Jan 21, 2013 7:28 AM

Definitely. I agree. It is time for the NFL to look at pretty boy. Although, arguably the best…he’s no angel. He knew exactly what he was doing. Great game Ravens.

  6. otis52gsh says: Jan 21, 2013 7:28 AM

Pollard should have been ejected from both playoff games for dirty hits. He is the last one who should be saying anything about cheap shots, both him and Ed reed that is.

Won the game and still crying.

  8. gtmcd82 says: Jan 21, 2013 7:29 AM

That was a dirty play by tammy brady. Everyone knows it was. Have fun sitting at home tammy.

  11. schmokes says: Jan 21, 2013 7:32 AM

That was an extreme cheap shot from a guy who begs the refs for a flag on every play.

  12. bluefunk72 says: Jan 21, 2013 7:33 AM

He should catch hell just like Suh did….But of course he won’t, for obvious reasons!

  13. sourdoughsam says: Jan 21, 2013 7:33 AM

He’s got a point. Brady’s protected by the rules. Trying to cleat another player when that player is not allowed to make contact with him is disgraceful. Especially when he is the first to complain to the refs any time one of his special rules is broken by an opponent.

People talk about him being the best of all time, but Montana, Marino, Elway, Unitas, even Manning wouldn’t pull the crap Brady does.

He may be a great QB, but I wish he’d start acting like a football player.

  14. gronkspike802 says: Jan 21, 2013 7:33 AM

Definitely looked to me like he slid awkwardly. Brady isn’t exactly the most athletic runner, don’t think it was on purpose.

A player as dirty as Pollard, who has injured numerous players on dirty plays and has never shown any concern or remorse over it and has practically been proud of his actions, is ripping someone else for a supposedly dirty play? HILARIOUS.

    ___________________________________

if you are referring to the hit on ridley, that is not dirty. open field ball carriers are subject to hits to the head. and ridley dropped his to lead with his helmet also.

  22. jonyv22 says: Jan 21, 2013 7:39 AM

Take it from someone who lives 25 mins from boston. When things dont go Tom Lady’s way he acts like a clown. he is an overated all time QB. Joe Montana he is not! Here’s a stat for the Patriots fans. The patriots beat 4 teams with a winning recored this year and that includes their one playoff win. Can you say paper tiger? And as far as Sleezicheick goes. Some think he is a hall of fame coach, but hall of fame gentleman he surely is not.

  23. gronkspike802 says: Jan 21, 2013 7:40 AM

What about Pollards helmet to helmet on Ridley that knocked him out? He dropped like a rag doll, but no penalty for that?

  28. ravensallday2012 says: Jan 21, 2013 7:49 AM

Pollards hit was not dirty. He just plays physical football. You know the way it’s supposed to be played. Brady cries All the time and his coach is a jerk. Super Bowl ravens. Here we come

  29. butch9270 says: Jan 21, 2013 7:50 AM

Pollard, the dirtiest player in the NFL, is the last person to take shots at a professional like Brady. His only talent is injuring other players with cheap shots and he is the one crying? Act like you’ve been there before Bernard. Stop whining. What a joke and waste of life that scum is.

  30. classyjacklambert says: Jan 21, 2013 7:50 AM

I wasn’t really rooting for either of these teams but when I was that, I was thinking “only Tom Brady gets away with that BS”… Can you imagine if it had been the other way around and Ed Reed lifted his leg sliding into Tom Brady? He’d be suspended indefinitely.

  31. shinywalrus says: Jan 21, 2013 7:53 AM

I thought the same thing when I saw it live, but was surprised the commentators didn’t say anything.

It’s possible that it was just instinct – remember when you were a kid and someone was about to jump on you? (It can be tough to keep from putting your legs up)

But the angle looked suspicious to me.

  32. jagsfan1 says: Jan 21, 2013 7:54 AM

  34. hehateme2 says: Jan 21, 2013 7:55 AM

    Posers.

  35. ravenator says: Jan 21, 2013 7:55 AM

Seriously people? Don’t defend Brady it was clear as day he intentionally tried to inflict damage. Pollard is a defender he makes hits, deal with it. Super Bowl bound

  36. rockthered1286 says: Jan 21, 2013 7:56 AM

I am a Ravens fan. But I will say this- Brady was not trying to kick Reed. What I think he WAS trying to do was get the refs to throw some dirty laundry for Reed running into his leg during a slide. This would’ve effectively moved them closer, stopped the clock, and saved a timeout. Seems like something Brady would do without question. But instead, he wastes time, stops the clock at 4 seconds for a FG and misses a few shots in the endzone.

Can we say 1 for 7 in the redzone?

  37. patriotsdefense says: Jan 21, 2013 7:56 AM

Pollard is a cry baby and a hypocrite. How does this guy complain that Brady begs for calls, well what is this quote to the media then? Begging for a call. The play looked clean in live action. When you slow it down it appears questionable. The moement the play was over Pollard was BEGGING the officals for a call. The QB has the right to defend himself and he slide feet first. And please, point to one time this year Brady even got a roughing call.

I thought the 49ers won with class, the Ravens are showing they have none. I can’t imagine Patrick Willis or Donte Winther acting this childish. Talk about not knowing how to win.

  38. andrewfbrowne says: Jan 21, 2013 7:57 AM

I wonder if the NFL has the area that Tom tried to kick on Ed Reed to fine Tommy Boy. It would be a loud exclamation that, “the King is dead.” We all know it won’t happen.

  39. thechronicjoker says: Jan 21, 2013 7:58 AM

Brady gave us the “Tuck Rule” next year it will be the Brady Slide Rule. Any QB that’s in a slide must not have any defenders within 5 yards of said QB. Lets play safe out there boys.

  40. metalhead65 says: Jan 21, 2013 8:00 AM

intentional or not it is a joke a cheap shot artist like pollard is calling anybody out.

  41. braven4evr says: Jan 21, 2013 8:02 AM

Really thought it was a personal foul but we were in NE and shouldn’t exspect to get any calls unless totally obvious…anybody notice only 1 holding penalty and NO blocks in the back against NE when both were also obvious at different times!

  42. kerryc21realty says: Jan 21, 2013 8:02 AM

I’m already sick of the Ray Lewis drama, ugh

  43. 49faithful says: Jan 21, 2013 8:03 AM

The more I watch Brady the more I realize he is a scared child out there. Just look at the play were he could have ran but instead throw a weak pass. If he committed to run he clearly would have it and got the first and maybe saving the game.

  44. stevenray72 says: Jan 21, 2013 8:03 AM

It was a defensive reflex in order to prevent Reed from falling on him. No harm no foul. Quit crying Ravens you are going to the Superbowl! Start worrying about the 49ers. You have all of the offseason to cry and make excuses about why you the big game.

  45. thebigtim2012 says: Jan 21, 2013 8:03 AM

Since Tom has nothing but respect for Ed Reed I seriously doubt it was intentional plus Brady’s track record of clean play def deserves the benefit of the doubt here

  46. coltsfan2004 says: Jan 21, 2013 8:05 AM

And they always say Brady is a better QB than Peyton… 13 points compared to Manning’s 35 and whenever the Cheaters won the SB they had a much better defense than Colts and the refs helped them as against the raiders … Peyton haters thought only he throws interceptions in crucial playoff games … Brady could not even get a first down when Ngata was miles away (Chicken)and what great clock management by Brady to end the first half … LMAO

  47. bearsoxass says: Jan 21, 2013 8:05 AM

Patriots fans are so frustrated. Get over it, it’s over, NO MORE SUPER BOWL!!!

  48. patriotsdefense says: Jan 21, 2013 8:07 AM

Pollard cried to the refs the moment the play was over, begging the ref for the call. He’s now goin to the Super Bowl and he decided to complain to the media, still begging for the call. He is exactly what he is complaining about Brady over. Pollard is a punk.

Him aside, Ravens Nation congrats on the win.

  49. tigerlilac says: Jan 21, 2013 8:07 AM

One other point. Pollard was head hunting all night. Bernard wasn’t trying to wrap up Ridley, he was using his helmet to take him out. It is a violent game but Pollard is the last guy I would be quoting on clean play.

  50. pixelito says: Jan 21, 2013 8:10 AM

Is anyone gonna actual watch this matchup?

  51. sportnik2 says: Jan 21, 2013 8:10 AM

Pollard, who leads with his helmet on every hit, is complaining about this? Really, Bernard?

Pollard is going to seriously hurt himself or anther player if he keeps this up. This is is a far greater danger than eliminating kickoffs. Roger, where are you? Bernard is multi-million dollar lawsuit waiting to happen.

  52. turbo2728 says: Jan 21, 2013 8:11 AM

It was intentional. He slid because Reed was coming so he knew exactly where he was. If any other player did this it would be talked about for weeks. For a classy team, the Patriots really are classless.

  53. gizzmonic says: Jan 21, 2013 8:12 AM

No way Brady gets fined for this plain and simple… not gonna happen

  54. metitometin says: Jan 21, 2013 8:14 AM

Isn’t this the pot calling the kettle black? Shouldn’t the NFL be looking at Pollard’s illegal cheap shots and be fining or suspending him, if not even throwing the punk out of the league?

Pollard has been making a living off of these cheap shots. That’s all he’s about. He’s nothing but a punk and a bully and there’s no place for it in the NFL. The NFL should be embarrassed. Pollard is a disgrace.

Pollard talks an awfully big game for never winning a Superbowl. Why don’t you win something for once, you idiot, and then you can flap your gums.

My guess is you’ll be embarrassed by big bro Harbaugh in Superbowl and someone will take you out and you’ll be crying like a baby.

  55. azjam says: Jan 21, 2013 8:14 AM

Watched it several times, it was a dirty play and he should get fined.

  56. patsfan13 says: Jan 21, 2013 8:15 AM

Lost a lot of respect for Brady last night. Maybe lifting his leg while in the slide was one thing, but later in the game, when behind, he didn’t even try to get the first down, he slid instead. Not the heart of a champion.

  57. pftjunkie says: Jan 21, 2013 8:15 AM

Seriously? First off I dislike Brady so not a fan, but you have to be kidding me that everyone is talking about this as if Brady committed a crime. Regardless if his leg went up on purpose or not these huge defensive players do all sorts of dirty plays on the offensive players each and every play, so it is ridiculous that anyone is crying foul on something that had no impact on the player or the outcome of the game…

  58. 315judman says: Jan 21, 2013 8:15 AM

Which kick are you talking about? If you watch the replay he kicks, then reloads and kicks again. HE DID IT TWICE!!! Accident…?

    It was a Suh-weet kick.

  59. jmblosser82 says: Jan 21, 2013 8:17 AM

Every raven game I watched this year seemed to have at least 1 helmet to helmet on the raven D. So a group if old guys can not complain when someone takes a cheap shot at them. That being said, it was clear as day Brady hit Reed on purpose, it does not matter the intent of the kick, he should be fined.

  60. faninvirginia says: Jan 21, 2013 8:19 AM

Pollard’s hit on Ridley bc he led with his helmet. He didn’t even try to tackle him. Shady play. Very dirty player. He’ll get his eventually. It’s easy to play def and headhunt when you know no one is hunting you. One day someone will out this guy out and it won’t be pretty.

  64. isphet71 says: Jan 21, 2013 8:22 AM

World class athletes need to be held accountable when they do things like this – intentional or not.

There’s too much at stake for players on both sides of the ball to be dangerously out of control like I think Brady was on this slide.

I don’t think it was intentional; Brady sucks at sliding. That still doesn’t make it OK that it happened.

  65. yukon672010 says: Jan 21, 2013 8:23 AM

Watch the replay from a field level camera, and you will see Brady looking directly at Reed as he slides. He knew exactly what he was doing.

Its official. Brady is a skirt wearing P***y.

  66. lflib69 says: Jan 21, 2013 8:23 AM

Please correct me if I am wrong…but if you are running forward and go for a slide feet first wouldn’t your legs go in the air when your upper half hit the ground? Looks like Hitman Pollard just wants something to cry about….because he will be getting a couple of envelopes in his locker this week.

  67. thestewman3 says: Jan 21, 2013 8:33 AM

  68. thegenoatkinsdiet says: Jan 21, 2013 8:33 AM

Let’s see if Goodell has enough manhood to fine a media pundit favorite like Brady. I’m guessing he doesn’t.

  69. finzd54 says: Jan 21, 2013 8:42 AM

Funny to hear Cheatriot fans crying about Pollard being a dirty player. Um, have you forgotten about the likes of Rodney Harrison, and Brandon Merriweather? So when these loose cannons were injuring your opponents from week to week, it was all good. But now because the shoe is on the other foot, you don’t like it?

Accept the fact that the better team won hypocrites, and enjoy the Super Bowl from the friendly confines of your couches.

  70. crubenst says: Jan 21, 2013 8:43 AM

Winning that consistently brings hate. It’s why their articles are flooded with trolls after losses. I love it.

Ravens played a better game. Look forward to the offseason.

  73. ace8842 says: Jan 21, 2013 8:46 AM

In baseball, that would be like trying to spike a guy near the face with your metal cleats. I thought it was a pretty dirty play by Brady.

  74. ravens513 says: Jan 21, 2013 8:48 AM

Do the pat fans know anything about football! It’s a tough sport, you try to tackle people hard, you punish them. By doing that you take their will to play away, notice all the drops in the second half! If you weren’t led by such a cry baby your team might have showed some heart and fought back. Pollard has nothing to be ashamed of.

  75. malab377 says: Jan 21, 2013 8:49 AM

Yes, the NFL should fine Brady for this.

But could they fine Pollard too for being a dangerous recidivist? The guy broke Brady’s knee in 2008, broke Welker’s knee in 2009, broke Gronkowski’s ankle in 2011 and yesterday he just tried to kill Ridley.

Bernard is playing safety, the only position in football where you can hurt everyone… and where only you can hurt yourself. This guy is a coward.

  76. infectorman says: Jan 21, 2013 8:49 AM

Hey Baltimore fans, no one outside of the Inner Harbor gives a rats ass what you think.

You will lose miserably in the SB and ray Lewis and his punky homies will all cry together at the end of his fraudulent career.
Ray Ray got a big surprise comin on Judgement day.

  77. rjbell4 says: Jan 21, 2013 8:54 AM

You realize how little Brady runs? You saw him run into the official, right? The guy doesn’t know what he’s doing outside the pocket.

I honestly don’t think he was trying to hurt anyway. I think it was his reactive way to try to keep the defender away — and a really stupid choice, since the worse the defender gets is cleated (happens all the time), but Brady could have gotten seriously hurt if the defender didn’t avoid contact.

  78. dtr3e says: Jan 21, 2013 8:55 AM

“It’s impossible to get inside Brady’s brain and say whether he was trying to kick Reed or whether his foot just came up awkwardly as he was sliding”

Are you f’ing kidding me?? MDS you damn well Poutyface Brady did that intentionally. Good thing the Pats lost, cuz I think he should have been suspended for the next game for that dirty play. Kicking other players is unacceptable, no matter who the player is. Hanesworth, Suh, and bunch of other got suspended and fined for kicking and the NFL shouldn’t treat Poutyface any differently. Makes me sick how many times the league looks the other way when it come their poster child and the rest of their beloved Patriots.

  79. rockthered1286 says: Jan 21, 2013 8:59 AM

    4 notes for Patsy fans:
#1-Obviously you don’t watch BP Diesel unless he plays the Pats. And it just so happens the ONLY team that ends up with injuries from his play is the Pats (because they’re soft). Pollard has developed into an outstanding cover guy as well (how many times did he get burned yesterday? right. none.)
#2-stop whining about Ridley. It was a CLEAN hit in the hole. BP had his head BELOW the number and Ridley dipped into him.
#3-HE IS NOT CRYING ABOUT THE BRADY SLIDE! When the media asks questions, you give them answers. When Pollard was ASKED about the slide, he responded. It wasn’t a clean play. Brady looked like he was playing baseball and trying to breakup a double play running into second. And Pollard expressed it. Why would he say it was clean when asked if he didn’t think so?
#4-Must be a New Enlgand thing because all of you whine as much as Brady.

  80. dtr3e says: Jan 21, 2013 8:59 AM

Bad on ALL sides of the ball. Bradys getting older and he’s never going take a hit if he can avoid it, wuss. BB really is a douche, get a personality man. Too many mistakes, really had a chance to start strong in the 1st.

But Pats D gets some experience, starters get healthy, another solid draft, they’ll be back. Still in AFC east.

  86. skinsfaninnebraska says: Jan 21, 2013 9:13 AM

Anyone watching that play, and especially the replay of it, can see that it was a deliberate kick by Brady. It was no “awkward slide” at all. He should be fined, if not suspended, for a deliberate attempt to injure another player.

  87. ziggy26 says: Jan 21, 2013 9:13 AM

Brady’s slide was a cheap shot. Reed was doing his best to avoid contact.

Pollard’s hit on Ridley was fine. It was actually Ridley that lowered his head, otherwise Pollard would have hit him in the midsection.

  88. ravensfan996 says: Jan 21, 2013 9:14 AM

Please stop talking about being classless Pats fans, cause your franchise believes in running up the scores on other teams, and then has the arrogance well, its not our jobs to stop playing because were ahead, it your job to stop us….well guess what, your 35.6 ppg average was stopped by the Ravens!!! 0 pts after the half, 13 pts total, so don’t cry about nothing. And yes, Brady slid with the leg up, should have been a personal foul, the hit on Pitta is the definition of defensless receiver, but the reds ain’t call it. Pats fans, you realize the Ravens are 2-1 at Gillette Stadium?? And they would’ve been 3-0 if Evans Hugh’s that ball tighter last season.

  89. romaraven says: Jan 21, 2013 9:16 AM

  101. edubs23 says: Jan 21, 2013 9:50 AM

Has anyone actually watched the replay? I just did because this seemed out of character for Brady.

Brady did his awkward run and slide and as Reed approached him, Reed’s leg accidentally hit Brady’s foot which caused Brady’s leg to bounce up into the air.

It’s football. Guys run into each other.

And Pollard’s hit was totally clean.

  102. dontfeedgigantor says: Jan 21, 2013 9:52 AM

“It’s impossible to get inside Brady’s brain and say whether he was trying to kick Reed or whether his foot just came up awkwardly as he was sliding.”

Uh, gravity pulls things towards the Earth, so no, it’s not impossible to understand what happened here. Brady used his leg muscles to overcome the effect of gravity.

  103. mullman76 says: Jan 21, 2013 9:52 AM

Chowds trying to justify Brady and his actions are hilarious. The hit on Ridley was CLEAN- the whole world saw, the only people who don’t are arrogant chowd fans.

The picture of Brady above is all the evidence you need to see- his leg is clearly in the air, trying to spike Reed. I’ve never seen a QB slide like that, no matter how unathletic or awkward or slow.

    Deal with it chowds.

  104. lovefootball4life says: Jan 21, 2013 9:56 AM

I think Brady was just scared and his instinct told him to protect himself. After all he did crumble to the ground after running into a ref.

If you think about it, not sure what is worse, to have a QB who is that afraid of being hit or a QB that intentionally tried to hurt someone.

  105. dutchhmaster says: Jan 21, 2013 10:00 AM

  107. hor2012 says: Jan 21, 2013 10:03 AM

I guessed I missed that play but judging from both sides of what I’m hearing it seems to me that it was a close call. Now, I do have a problem with everyone calling pollard a dirty player. the hit that knocked the ball out was clean. the one that tore Brady’s knee was just hard nose football. I’m in my mid 40’s so I remember a time when QBs were exposed to a hell of a lot worse then what Brady has to endure. They showed all the highlights of when pollard knocked pats out and again. I didn’t see anything illegal about any of them. And, either I didn’t see or don’t remember the play in question but looking at that photo it doesn’t look to me like he’s trying to kick anyone.

  108. mazblast says: Jan 21, 2013 10:04 AM

Pollard will be fined for Ridley making the contact helmet-to-helmet. Pollard will accept it, since the play wound up knocking Ridley (whoever he is) out of the game.

Brady? No fine. Giselle’s escort is a favorite of ESPN and The Great Roger Goodell Himself Live And In Person, can do no wrong, has never ever lost a game, and besides, I’m sure Bob Kraft has told The Great Roger Goodell Himself Live And In Person that he can’t do it.

First, the Ridley play was a running play… there will be no fine… nor should there be. Helmet to Helmet is only called on the QB and a defenseless receiver… and in any case, Pollard was going low… when contact was made, Pollards right knee is on the ground… Ridley lowered his pad level – as RB’s are taught to do – to take on the contact and they went helmet to helmet…. Pollard goes any lower, then we’re talking about how much time Ridley is missing at the beginning of next season after having reconstructive knee surgery…

second, someone mentioned sliding and a persons legs automatically going up… have you watched baseball… ever? There would’ve been an all out bench clearing brawl for a slide like that in baseball…

This play reminded me of a play from the 1960’s when Tommy McDonald caught a ball and slipped to the ground. At that time a defensive player could legally “tackle” the player on the ground in any manner. A huge defensive lineman took aim at McDonald and was about to spear him when McDonald raised both legs and flipped the defender right over him as he lay on the ground. It looked like a rehearsed gymnastics event.

The NFL was more dangerous but it was more fun.

  125. marniblitz says: Jan 21, 2013 11:18 AM

  131. lionsfan2086 says: Jan 21, 2013 11:29 AM

Suh’s “kick” was not intentional. He was being flung to the ground by the o-lineman, which should have been called holding btw and wasn’t, and his leg flung outwards. Brady put his leg up on purpose, no action caused that reaction as in Suh’s case. As Reed got close Brady threw up his leg and kicked him. Reed was backing off the hit because Brady started sliding. If this doesn’t merit a fine it’ll be just another example of Goodell taking this league further down the toilet.

  132. notorious343 says: Jan 21, 2013 11:38 AM

I find it hilarious people want pollard penalized for the hit on ridley. I mean please explain to me how you can consider him defenseless. Helmet to helmet is a LEGAL hit unless your defenseless. So your saying ridley was defenseless? I don’t get it. What is hard to understand about this rule?? It’s just crazy. But anyway on the Brady note. I just wanted to bring up Brady spiking the ball and then yelling at the ref because the refs awarded the Niners a timeout that 95% of the Niners were plain as day calling before he got the play off… Just thought id throw that out there. Also Keep an eye out for RG3 who looks to be the next Brady. Remember him taking his helmet off just before their 2nd touchdown in playoffs right after he hands the ball off. Clock was running and I don’t think the running back was even ruled down yet and here is rg3 pulling his helmet off. Where is the laundry at?

  144. swagger52 says: Jan 21, 2013 12:23 PM

Patriot fans that complain about Pollard’s hit…Amazing..There were two defenseless player helmet to helmets yesterday…The hit on Pitta and the hit on Ed Reed with the fair catch. So the Refs were erring on the side of safety…hmm…looks like they were erring on the side of the Patriots.

All these judgement calls…illegal contact on the receiver (Tom Brady versus Kurt Warner), tuck rule (Tom Brady versus Oakland)..these were all put in place to give Superbowl wins to Tom Brady. All they do is allow Refs power over the game.

I want to see the stat…First downs by illegal contact…after an incompletion on third down by Tom Brady. Tom Brady OWNS that record. Yet…in the game yesterday…Patriot CBs were hanging on the receivers all the way down the field. Disgusting officiating.

  145. themackstrong says: Jan 21, 2013 12:25 PM

That was a terrible, cheap play by Brady. He is already sliding and is protected – Ed Reed is pulling up but Brady tries to get him low with a kick. Since he doesn’t have a history of taking cheap shots, when I saw the play live and on replay my first thought was his leg was up to protect him from being touched in any way. Kinda like leading with your feet when falling. That said, he NEVER should do that and it is dangerous and ultimately dirty. I’m not a huge Pats or Tom Brady fan but I’m going with him not trying to hurt someone, but instead was being a huge sissy.

  158. bartlettruss says: Jan 21, 2013 2:02 PM

It’s just considered to be bad taste when one criticizes Brady. He’s a great QB, but he’s often a pouty, poor loser and in this case he broke the rules. It may have just been his self-preservation instincts kicking in, but he wasn’t supposed to do it and he should be fined.

I know he doesn’t care about 5 to 20 thousand dollar fines. His wife probably makes that much per minute, but the league needs to fine him anyway just to show that the rules apply to everyone, even the anointed.

BTW, I’m not saying that Brady is the only one who gets this special “saint” treatment, but he’s one of them and he deserves to be fined.

  159. Deb says: Jan 21, 2013 3:03 PM

    @riseabovecancer …

No player, including Tom Brady, has the power to install rules in the the National Football League. And much as I think the Raiders were screwed on the play, the “Tuck Rule” was on the books prior to that game.

As for your conjecture that Brady faked his injury, people can walk without crutches after ACL injuries and surgeries. They just can’t play football or engage in similar strenuous activities until the ligaments have healed properly. You need to rein in your imagination.

  160. gomez2u says: Jan 21, 2013 3:23 PM

I tend to think TB did it out of trying to protect himself, but it was dumb. I certainly hope he did say something to Reed about it’s not being intentional if that is the case. He doesnt have a history of it so I can’t imagine it was intentional.

And look I hate what’s happened historically with Pollard as much as any other Pats fan, but the hit on Ridley was 100% no fine or penalty warranted. If Ridley had popped up from that hit instead of lying there flat looking like he were dead, fewer would be complaining, methinks. And again, much as I’m not a Pollard fan he did make comments after the game that he hoped Ridley was all right.

Again, the Giants own the Patriots. And I spout facts, not nonsense. You have no point.

“What about Pollards helmet to helmet on Ridley that knocked him out? He dropped like a rag doll, but no penalty for that?”
    ***************************************

Really??? Ridley dropped himself like a rag doll. He lowered his head and shoulder and drove forward into the helmet of Pollard…..Ridley has no one to blame on this one but himself.

This is why the Ravens are one of the most hated franchises in the NFL. They never get anywhere almost every season, and when they do, they act like its nothing new and happens every year. As much as you hate them, why don’t you learn a thing or two from the Patriots and be humble. Dislike this all you want, but you know its true.

And furthermore, I don’t understand why its such a big deal Brady kicked Reed, even if he did it on purpose, because if you didn’t notice, Reed was absolutely fine when he got a chance to walk it off.

To the Ridley fumble, I’m surprised he held onto it for as long as he did, seeing as he was unconscious in midair. Pollard’s one of, if not the dirtiest player in the League, playing on one of, if not the dirtiest defenses in the League. Even if it was a legal hit, he should be fined on the principle fact that he didn’t even try to rap up Ridley, as the replay suggests. Get over it Ravens, your in the Super Bowl, so you might as well enjoy it.

The only way Reed could have been harmed by Brady’s foot is if he leapt on top of him, which is what Brady was trying to prevent.

I mean, lets face it, there’s really nothing Brady can do to overcome the hate in his direction, so as far as I’m concerned, he could have kicked Reed in the stones good and hard. What difference would it make? You’d hate Brady even more? Hah. Impossible.

Actually Noah, the Pats are the most hated team in the league and its because of homer fans like you. You whine about how dirty Pollard is yet when it was Rodney Harrison (arguably the dirtiest player in league history) doing it for the Pats in your SB runs its all good. That was a clean hit (and hopefully always will be), besides, it’s Ridley that leaned in.

  167. noah81398 says: Jan 21, 2013 10:26 PM

Ridley may have leaned in, which most ball-handlers will do, don’t deny it. But I’m almost positive Ridley didn’t hit himself in the head.

Also, I truly wasn’t complaining or whining. I was stating the well-known fact that Pollard is dirty, and even if you are a Ravens fan you know its true, you won’t admit it but you know its true. When you get a chance, watch the replay of the hit. Then come back and TRY to argue that he remotely tried to wrap up Ridley. Pollard doesn’t hit just to bring the man down, he goes with the absolute intent to injure, as his past clearly states.

When you watch it in slow motion you can clearly see Brady’s leg come up and expose his vag.

I wonder if his wife taught him how to kick like that. Classless play by a classless player on a classless team with a classless coach. Go Niners

  170. ridingwithnohandlebars says: Jan 22, 2013 2:22 PM

It was dirty but he should not be fined for it. A better punishment would be forcing him to play in the Pro Bowl.

So, after this incident, does anybody still think that soccer player are soft? They have to deal with those kind of ‘tackles’ from every which angle almost constantly.

Like Hillary Clinton said, What’s the difference? Baltimore won. I didn’t hear Ray Lewis apologize to Aaron Hernandez for hitting a defenseless receiver. Get over it.
