Russell Wilson makes it to the Pro Bowl

Bus Cook has another reason to not ask the Seahawks for a new contract for Russell Wilson.

Robert Griffin III, not Wilson, was the rookie quarterback named to the NFC Pro Bowl team.  But it’s Wilson, not Griffin, who’ll play in the game.

Griffin is rehabbing a major knee injury suffered in a playoff loss to Wilson’s Seahawks.  Wilson is now replacing Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, who suffered a shoulder injury in Sunday’s NFC title game.

Wilson and Griffin are considered to be two of the leading candidates for offensive rookie of the year, along with Colts quarterback Andrew Luck.

  1. A pro-bowl is becoming less and less meaningful as a QB. It seems like 5 qbs from each division make it when you factor in injuries and players skipping bc of the SB. Thats about 10 Qbs out of 32. It kind of dilutes it

  2. Luck is in right? Have three rookie QBs ever made it to the probowl in one year before?

Uh…three? RG3 is not going to the Pro Bowl. He’s rehabbing his destroyed knee.

  3. Wilson is a great QB and deserves to be in the pro bowl as do the other mentioned. With that being said I would not take any of them over Kaepernick.

  4. Wilson is and will always be the best quarterback taken in the draft. Luck had a QB rating in the 70’s and RGIII can’t stay healthy. Wilson is the best of both worlds as he knows how to keep himself healthy and he has elite passing ability. He is Drew Brees that can run. People will probably thumbs down my comment because Wilson doesn’t have the flash of RGIII or the swagger of Luck. But what Wilson does have is heart. And no amount of thumbs down will ever take that away.

Dude throws INTs for TDs. He SHOULD be in the ProBowl.

He does well in games that end up being farcical.

Dude, get over it! So what if was an INT? That was the best play the Pack D made all year

  6. Lots of people sure gush all over Wilson. He talks in predictable cliche’s, and has a fancy way of scrambling east and west while making some big plays this year. I think he also got extremely lucky. He doesn’t scare anyone as a passer. Not yet anyways. I can’y buy in.

If he can win 11 games next year and go deep into the playoffs I’ll buy in. Maybe.

The Sophmore Slump is real. Waiting and seeing

  7. imagine wilson tears his knee out..
what will the seahawks fans write about then..we get it he’s good not good enough to make it passed the 2nd rd thouh

  8. Another article which ppl are gonna twist to hate on RGIII again, go figure..Its gonna be like this the whole summer.I like Russ, think he have a bright career ahead of him, but some of these Seahawks fans are so obnoxious .

  9. One of the best things for a rookie QB outside a good running attack is a good D. Wilson is good, but a lot of you are getting carried away. Wilson had the best defense in the league. For the first half of the season, RG3’s defense was shredded so bad, it was on pace to break records for worse secondary ever. If you gave Wilson the Redskins D and RG3 Seattle’s D, it would be interesting to see the results.

I think RG3 has the ability to carry a weak team more than Wilson does. I will say that Wilson runs much safer than RG3. I think that was RG3’s rookie weakness. He’s running the ball like he’s playing against LBs who just got out of high school and he underestimated the speed and power of NFL caliber defenses. You might run through an 18 year old college freshman, but you aren’t going to do that against NFL caliber players. Instead of going for a couple of extra yards and getting smashed, be content with what you get and slide well before getting smacked. I think as RG3 matures in the league, he’s be much better at sliding and more smart running the ball.

  10. Don’t get why the hating on Wilson. He had several fourth quarter comeback drives. When he runs he’s smart enough to slide or run out of bounds. And his passer rating was high.

Just like fans hate the Pats because of Belichick, fans are starting to the Seahawks because of their fans.

  12. So other teams hate the seahawks because they have the best fans in the world? 🙂 makes sense you know your doing something right when you got hater 😉 keep hating 🙂

  13. Wison, CK7, RG3, Luck. They are good, different and are changing football in a positive, exciting way. Unfortunately, Roger Goodell is changing it too and his changes are making football worse. The NFL is being “wussificated” as my son said yesterday, after he watched a full game for the first time in years. He said that he couldn’t watch soccer because of the diving and wondered if the NFL would end up like that.

Get over it? I’m well over it. I still think it’s amazing that the guy can throw a pick-TD. You’re going to be hearing about this for as long as he is the QB. Not from me, but from this site and every sports media site. You may as well get over it.

  15. The Pro Bowl should be a trophy and call it a day. Give each player a check for what the average cost of a trip to Hawaii would cost. The season is long and I can’t see ant player wanting to risk injury. P.S. I have never watched more than a minute of any Pro Bowl which,in my opinion , is completely meaningless.

Congratulations Russel ,very deserving ,don’t get hurt, signed 49er fan.

  16. For all the idiots who keep putting down RGIII…

He started and finished in the top on the league. Maybe a little under Matt Ryan and Kicking Mule Brady.

You can’t argue what he has done from game 1.

He was pure money until he was injured against the Seahawks. He owned them..

Apparently you’ve never been to Lambeau for a game.

  18. Russell Wilson is a joke. Just another undersized QB that will be figured out and completely destroyed next year. Little mobile quarterbacks rarely get the job done. Now Colin Kaepernick on the other hand is a monster. The ideal QB is 6’3-6’6 230-250lbs. A pocker passer…. not a midget that can scramble like an undersized running back.

  19. Quite crediting the Seahawks D for all their success. Wilson this year led THREE 4th Q comebacks that the D went on to blow, resulting in losses (Detroit, Miami, ATL). If this “elite D” could stop a last minute drive, the Seahawks go 13-3, and are very possibly heading to NO in a couple weeks (I’d have liked their chances vs SF in a home playoff game).

Yes, most Seattle fans are great, but being a great fan doesn’t mean cheering an injury to an opposing team’s players. Hence my original comment.

Smart dude right here! Put him in a front office!

  22. Why does the board moderator keep pulling my non-confrontational comments? Oh well, anyway Wilson’s had a good season. Good work on the Pro Bowl nod.

  23. A lot of blind hate in these comments. And none of it actually to do with Wilson’s achievements this year.

People kicking the Seahawks fan base aren’t exactly showering themselves in glory either.

  24. C. Kaepernick : Compl – 16 Att – 21 Pass Yards 233 TD 1 21 Rush Yards
    R. Wilson : Compl – 24 Att 36 Pass Yards 385
    TD 2 1 INT
60 Rush Yards 1 Rush TD

Seems like Russell Wilson played better than your so called monster against the same team in the same dome………..

  25. Russell Wilson is a class act and he will be leading the Seahawks in the playoffs for years to come. The division is going to be tough next year but I have no doubt if we play the way we did to close the season we will take the NFC West. I don’t think any team will want to come to Century Link in the playoffs and expect bigger things from Russell in his second year. Go Hawks!

  26. With that being said R. Wilson is a good QB and he was just a rookie. He starts games off slow and finishes big in the end. He did what he had to in the playoff game vs. Atl. , the Seahawks defense did not come through and finish the game. The Seahawks need to trade Matt Flynn to the Jets and pick up a 1st round pick and get a DE and a top WR in the draft and they will be fine.

  27. I wanted to cheer for Flynn, but Wilson is really good. I hope he keeps it up in year 2. He seems like he has a good head on his shoulders.

  28. Makes me wonder if the rookie payscale had something to do with this. I’ve never seen three rookies kill it so much in one season. RG3, Wilson and Luck. They played like guys in the last year of their contracts.

  29. Thumbs up if u actually played football on a real team on a real field…not a fantasy team owner who never broke a sweat or benn threw two-a-days in 100 degree weather…someone who is not a skip brainless wanna be

“If he can win 11 games next year and go deep into the playoffs I’ll buy in.”

Everyone’s on pins and needles awaiting your endorsement. Do keep us posted.

  31. I’ve never met or heard one seahawk fan talk bad about RG3. Give it up redskin fans. He’s a great talent and a great player. but just because we’re happy with Wilson and wouldn’t trade him for RG3 doesn’t mean we think RG3 sucks. and don’t hate because we drafted him in the 3rd round and didn’t have to trade 3 future first rounders to get him.

  32. After suffering through Tavaris Jackson and Charlie Whitehurst, Im just happy that the Seahawks have a quarterback who can throw a catchable ball.

  33. Are u really trying to compare a guy like willson to ck7 ???Wake up ur dreamin that u have won a nfc chapionship and ur goin to the superbowl!!!lol…… ck7 smoked green bay !!!! u guy are the reason for the name fail mary!!!! u will be watching 49ers play for another superbowl!!
    keep dreaming seasquak fans

  34. Kudos to Wilson he’s been acting like a class act from rookie camp. The CK7 to RW3. First off they run a similar offenses and are smart with regard to taking hit..

Ck7throws harder but not as precise as Wilson. But the major difference is Wilson plays the position cerebrally while Kap relies solely on athletic talent.. If anyone will slump its Kap. Instincts are good but preparation and practice is how you become and maintain an elite status at QB.

Wilson can last because of that. His completion percentage is higher from the pocket and so were his yards.

Nothing wrong with Kap. NO HATE IN ME. Just not going to say he won 1 more game for his team than last year while Wilson improved the entire dynamic of the Hawks and even with the Niners in the SB their will still be a lot of skepticism regarding if they will even win the NFCW next year.

Wilson plays smart in passing, Kap doesn’t read coverage as well but can spot balls bc his cannon. Neither are bad just don’t get this Kap Os amazing and Wilson is a gimic business. Sounds like some scared Niners fans to me, ur in the SB and still taking shots at Seattle.. Don’t see you on AZ Blogs or RAMS Blogs… Hmmm smells like fear..

  35. Would 49er fans stop saying Wilson isn’t all that, and would Seahawks fans stop saying the same about Kaep?? Believe it or not, it’s OKAY for you to think both are tremendous QBs. I’m not sure how 49er fans can come on here and say anything about Wilson after he shredded them only a few weeks ago. And Kaep has played phenomenally in the playoffs. How about we just concede that the division has two star QBs who will likely create a great rivalry with each other??

  36. I know that many view the “Fail Mary” as a negative thing, but in my viewpoint, it was positive. People complained so much about the replacement refs, there needed to be an extremely bad call that would cause the real refs to come back. It was that bad call. When people speculate what would’ve happened if that bad call never happened, people fantasize that somehow life would’ve been better. Would it have? If anything the replacement refs would’ve stayed longer and people would’ve complained about more blown calls. More games would’ve been affected, but instead, it was over within the first 3 weeks of the season.

49ers fans have to recognize that the Seahawks ended up helping the 49ers in the end – which I am sure the Seahawks didn’t want to do. You see, without that “Fail Mary”, then the Green Bay Packers would’ve already had the 1st seed. They wouldn’t have needed to win against the Minnesota Vikings. All the same teams would’ve made the play-offs, the only difference was the seeding. This is what was ultimately affected by the “Fail Mary” call.

Perhaps the 49ers would’ve done the same thing, they would’ve dominated every game they played before playing the Green Bay Packers — or maybe they would’ve been blown out because they wouldn’t have the extra week to have Justin Smith heal up enough to play. That bye week was crucial. You saw how the Patriots dominated in the second half the moment that Smith was taken out. You saw how the Seahawks blew out the 49ers. I give props to the Seahawks for what they did especially Okung, but I also recognize that it would’ve been, most likely, a much closer game had Justin Smith been able to play.

I am a big fan of Wilson and a fan of Kaepernick. I don’t think they have to be mutually exclusive.

  37. What do the 49ers and Keapernick have anything to do with this story? I know they are in the same division but be happy you are in the super bowl, nobody cares about the pro bowl anyway, even though it is still somehow a measuring stick in the hall of fame voting. Hopefully people stop taking that into consideration for pro bowls after 2004.

I’m so sorry Kaepernick isn’t in the pro bowl. He will have plenty in his future if he’s not a one hit wonder this year. The guy didn’t play half the season, stop complaining and go wait outside the stadium at the superbowl to stab another fan. Your fanbase and the raiders make the rest of the nfls fans feel less safe going to a game. I’m glad a rookie QB is making you bitter about your 2nd year qb not making the pro bowl.
