I think in this age saying nothing while you are saying something is both smart and sensible given what the sports media and social media can do to BB and his team with just a few impetuous words on his part. Rex Ryan is a case in point. I'd wager in BB's mind he gives away nothing verbally to protect himself and his players. No one has a right to anyone else's thoughts if they don't want to express them. He felt bad about the loss and didn't trust himself to speak immediately on the field to CBS, thereby possibly making things worse. I call that smart and wise. Give him a break and the credit he's earned. Quit bringing up Spygate. He paid for that forever ago. That has nothing to do with his current team.

Also why can't the media leave the losing team alone until the next day and give them time to compose themselves? Because watching people squirm increases ratings.

dennisatunity says: Jan 22, 2013 11:31 AM

Hey, we can leave Belichick alone, but there is one small concession he has to make. He is a multi-millionaire for one reason only–because of the media. (He doesn’t have all his money because of football because thousands of players played the game for decades without becoming millionaires. ) He got the money because the media fell in love with football. So the media will leave him totally alone if he gives every penny back–every penny.

I can’t stand the jerks who say, “I want all the money but I don’t want any of the responsibilities that go along with it.”
_________________________________
That’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever read in my life. He’s a millionaire because of the media ????
No, he’s a millionaire because his boss has one standard for him, help the team win games. You know, a HC’s JOB. The reason players, most of whom I bet make a lot more money than BB does per year when they aren’t as good at their job as he is at his, aren’t rich is because they piss away their money on dumb stuff.

Brian Billick never defeated BB head to head and is a current member of the media so has a lot of reason to “hate” on him, but he isn’t letting BIAS infuse his opinion. I’d call that fair to the max.

Why is this a surprise to anyone. This is the way of the league, cheating, lieing, players in trouble off the field and disrespecting other players on the field. The announcers jump on one story and leave another alone depending on their agenda. The NFL is about money not character or sportsmanship. Starting next year all the commentary on the TV shows will be what a great coach, great guy ,motivator Belicheat is and move on. So who will be the first to have him as coach of their fantasy league?

Happens every year with the Pats. They go 13-3 or 12-4 and no-one remembers that they play in a terrible division. A cupcake schedule makes for a cupcake team. Belichick is starting to become the NFL's Bob Stoops so why do people care about what he has to say (or not say).

I actually find it hilarious how he approaches the media, it's like a game unto itself for him, not to elaborate on anything or give them anything worthwhile in an interview and see how boring he can be. The "A Football Life" segment on him was great and gives a insight on the man, very smart, good sense of humor. Just seeing him in shorts and flip flops 80% of the time was funny.

It is refreshing to have a Belichick in a league full of coaches who all act the same for the most part, cornball sense of humor not coming off as genuine like they are trying to make people like them. Please get rid of Shannon Sharpe, he is on the same level as Skip Bayless to me, 100% unlikeable

Look, I'm a Pats fan and I want answers as to why the Pats got their lunch handed to them Sunday. I'm sick of the same old same old mumbo jumbo.

I want to know why Belichick punted twice from the Baltimore 35. I want to know why Talib couldn't come back into the game. I want to know why Woodhead and Vareen weren't used more. I want to know what the hell happened with clock management at the end of the first half. I want answers as to why the season went down in flames and if Belichick can't give me those answers then find me a coach that can.

Belichick's style is growing real old with me and I suspect with other Pats fans as well.

"The one thing Belichick either doesn’t realize or refuses to accept is that he gets paid millions every year not because there’s any inherent value in the service he provides but because people find entertainment in watching the games that his teams play"

His teams wouldn't be nearly so entertaining without his genius helping them scheme to win games. If that isn't inherent value, I don't know what is. You couldn't just put any old coach in there with the same result.

The people primarily paying his wages, if you want to look at it, are fans of New England. Judging from the outcry here in the responses from them, and the few I know in real life, they're all quite content with Belichick behaving exactly the way he does. None of them are upset that he didn't do a post-game CBS interview. He did his press conference and said exactly what you'd expect him to say. What more would you like out of him?

Sorry you don't like his attitude, but that just doesn't matter. He's not Rex Ryan, he's not going to give you some soundclip that you can tear up in the papers. He contributes his coaching abilities which helps the Patriots win games. That's what gets him paid. He owes you nothing, and he owes me nothing, he owes "patriot nation" nothing. He coaches and wins games. He does what is expected of him. It's part of what makes him so successful, and the media blinders to that is just astounding.

"These are facts – draw your own conclusions:

The Pats have 11 10+ win seasons in the last 12 years, but,

They’re 8-7 in the playoffs since 2005

They admitted under investigation to videotaping from 2000-2007 (when they were caught)"
^^^^^
Let me teach you something about football:
In football there is offense, defense and special teams. If you know anything about football other than what TMZ tells you, you'd know that the Patriots had a feared and dominant defense made up of veteran leaders such as Tedy Bruschi, Rodney Harrison, Mike Vrabel, Willie McGinest, etc from roughly 2001-2008. Their defense (and special teams) is what won Super Bowls in 2001 and 2003, while their 2004 team was the most complete offensive and defensive team in that era. While 2007 was the greatest team of all time to not win a Super Bowl (sorry 98 Vikings), that team's make up and philospohy was different than the previous SB winners.

Now, if you knew anything about football, you'd realize that after 2006 the Pats decided to change their philosophy, and what we got was a team that was totally dependent on Tom Brady, as defensive players retired and/or became less effective. Nobody has picked up the slack on defense and this team's foretunes have basically hinged solely on Tom Brady since 2009. Incidentally, Brady has had his best statistical seasons post-2004.

Again, if you understood football and could think for yourself beyond what the media tells, you, you'd understand that the reason the Patriots haven't won a SB since 2004 is that a.) nobody fears their defense, b.) they turned into a physical, feared team to a finesse team and c.) a team that is totally reliant on Tom Brady. You'd also understand that the teams that have beat NE in the postseason lately -Baltimore, NYG, NYJ, all were tougher teams that went in with the intent on punching a finesse team in the mouth and did just that.

But keep spouting your Spygate/Camerahunt nonsense. To the rest of us who actually understand the game of football, it makes you simpletons pretty easy to spot and ridicule.

Sorry Mike but where is the poll that says the Patriot fans and customers want to hear more from Bill Belichick?

As a Patriots fan, I don't care that Belichick has a disdain for the media or that he gives one word non answers. In fact having watched more than a few BB press conferences in my day, I find his stoic and aloof persona and non-answers to questions to be more entertaining than most other coaches across the league.

It's only you media types that get all butthurt about this stuff, and you all really come off as a truly unlikable group of lame, entitled whiners. To your seriously misguided point above: Bill Belichick's job is to WIN FOOTBALL GAMES, not entertain housewives in Connecticut who don't care about football or to tell funny jokes to sportswriters and do their job for them.
Repeat after me:
"Bill is a football coach."
"Bill's job is to manage his players and win football games."
Got it?

"...the people who justify Belichick’s salary want to hear from him."

wow, talk about a sense of self importance.

I think that fans of the patriots were perfectly satisfied with his response, and he owes the media nothing.

Especially former Bronco and Raven Shannon Sharp. Pats fans remember this guy's obnoxious taunts and complete lack of sportsmanship and his disrespect when he was a member of the Broncos playing the Pats in Foxboro. He was 5 times worse that Suggs or Pollard and he has the nerve to claim to feel disrespected? Maybe CBS would like to send Derrick Mason over to the locker room to interview Belichick. When you go through life pooping on people every chance you get, don't be surprised when they won't go out of their way to may your job easier as a personal favor. Maybe if Sharp was as professional, respectful and intelligent as Curran, he might have some credibility.

Belicheck works for the Patriots, not the NFL, not CBS and not the fans. These talking heads, if they are unwilling to speak the truth and treat coaches with dignity and respect, then they should not be surprised when they are respectfully ignored.

Sharp, seriously, talking about disrespect. As if the Patriots owe him any.

PS:
Only 8-7 in the playoffs since they won three superbowls? Please, what other team has played in 15 playoff games let alone won 8 of them since 2005. #DynastyProblems
