Two Falcons safeties are going to the Pro Bowl

William Moore, Thomas DeCoud AP

With the 49ers going to the Super Bowl, safeties Dashon Goldson and Donte Whitner will have to pass on the Pro Bowl.

So the NFL turned to the team that the 49ers beat in the NFC Championship Game to replace them on the roster. The Falcons have announced that Thomas DeCoud and William Moore will both be heading to Hawaii to take on the AFC.

It’s the first trip to the Pro Bowl for both men. DeCoud had 89 tackles and a team-high six interceptions for Atlanta this season. Moore posted 105 tackles, four interceptions, two forced fumbles and a sack despite missing four games at the end of the season with a hamstring injury.

With DeCoud and Moore on the team, the Falcons will have three Pro Bowlers taking part in the game. Tight end Tony Gonzalez will play while quarterback Matt Ryan is passing on the game after injuring his left shoulder in the loss to the Niners.

The pro bowl was a joke when the best players were actually playing. Now theyre getting down to the 5th stringers. No one cares

What irony. Two guys from a defensive backfield that were torched consistently all season, especially in the last two playoff games, are being rewarded by going to the Pro Bowl. I live in Atlanta, I’m a Falcons fan, but this is ridiculous!

Werent they consistently torched most of the season, and had like the highest total in the league for missed tackles?

Cancel the Pro Bowl or just name the teams and have a little skills competition for those who show up.

    Articles like this are embarrassing.

After watching these guys give Vernon Davis the field the other day I can’t believe they’re going to the Pro Bowl. Let someone else go.

Pro-bowl is a joke. Vernon Davis, Delanie Walker and Zack Miller destroyed these guys for the past two weeks.

Thomas DeCoud, I will admit he was afraid to tackle, but he was a ball hawk and hardly ever got burned. William Moore deserves to go for sure. He is one of the hardest hitting safetys in the league, and is always in the backfield coming up with a stop behind the line of scrimmage. He also showed this year that he can be a ballhawk picking off 4 passes in only 12 games. He also hardly got burned. If everyone is saying that they got burned because of the TE’s the last two weeks, don’t. 90% of those two games we were in zone or had a LB covering the TE. Fault the DC who put the LB in coverage against the TE before you falsely fault the awesome safetys that didn’t even cover them for most the time.

Decoud deserves to go to the Pro Bowl every season for the rest of his career, based solely on the fact that he did the “Meow” game on a live ESPN interview.

I’d take Morgan Burnett over either one of those scrubs.

I agree with this, they are some good safeties. True they got burnt on a few plays but if the pass rush dont hit home how long u expect them to hold coverage. Look at the qbs they slowed down peyton manning 3 picks, drew brees 7 picks, eli manning 2 picks, Matthew Stafford 2 picks. Come on the numbers speak for themselves..
