Chiefs now have six Pro Bowlers

AP

The Kansas City Chiefs won two games in 2012.  They now have three times as many Pro Bowlers.

The Chiefs have announced that linebacker Justin Houston has been named to the AFC team, replacing Broncos linebacker Von Miller.

Houston, a third-round pick in 2011, joins safety Eric Berry, running back Jamaal Charles, punter Dustin Colquitt, linebacker Tamba Hali, and linebacker Derrick Johnson in Honolulu.

  1. Other than insisting on sticking with Cassel, it’s hard to argue that Pioli was a bad GM when it comes to accumulating quality players. Having that bad of a record but still having six pro bowlers to me says that the GM wasn’t the problem. Just watch Reid take this roster minus Cassel to the playoffs year one.

  2. Haydenpryor- most of these pro bowlers are Herm Edwards picks. Pioli took Tyson Jackson with the 3rd pick – bust. Houston might be the only pick Pioli makes that pans out. Pioli was all hype. This team will win 6-9 games next year without “The Patriot Way”. Everyone in KC is glad the patriot way is gone.

  3. no no. it gonna be down year. chiefs will let 3 first round picks go this year 2 should be kept in bowe and Albert. and Dorsey give or take him. but what’s the point in having players formerly drafted that have developed leave in free agency when u have abundance of cap space. just leaving more holes on roster. wait you will see. its the chiefs thing to do

  4. I just don’t seem to understand how a 2-14 team has so many pro-bowlers. If all these players played at a pro-bowl level, why were they 2-14? Just more evidence that the pro bowl is joke…kinda like the fact that the league’s 2nd leading rusher didn’t make it either.

  5. What Andrew Luck, Bruce Arians and Chuck Pagano did with Indy year one, Andy and Dorsey, with 6 pro bowlers and the #1 pick, will do for KC because the AFC West sucks and they play the NFC LEast this year. 11-5 and the playoffs isnt out of the question IF they have a QB not named Cassel, Brady or Vick.

  6. @haydenpryor

Only two of those Pro Bowlers were drafted by Pioli. Eric Berry (who he didn’t even want, Haley had to jump on the table for him) and the guy who is only getting in because of injury, Justin Houston, who fell into his lap in round 3. The other 4 guys were here when Pioli arrived. He added next to nothing else to the roster besides those two. His drafts were horrible, as were his free agent signings, QB choices and head coaches. Not to mention he let guys like Brandon Carr and Bernard Pollard slip away.

He was an absolutely terrible GM. One of the worst in recent NFL history. People who keep defending him clearly have no idea the type of miserable atmosphere he created at 1 Arrowhead Drive. He alienated the team and players from the city. Every single day, in every single way, he was nothing but an absolute failure.

  7. Further evidence that ProBowl selections are not legit. Just like Hall of Fame votes – some of those Hall of Fame hacks don’t even cover football.

  8. “Other than insisting on sticking with Cassel, it’s hard to argue that Pioli was a bad GM when it comes to accumulating quality players.”

4 of the 6 were already Chiefs before Pioli got there.

  9. Houston is a pretty good player, but he could be great. Not there yet. I hope he doesn’t think this alternate pro bowl thing means he’s arrived.

  10. You shouldn’t count as a “Pro Bowl” player if you are only there because a bunch of worthier guys are begging off because they have an ingrown toe-nail. Do you think any of these Patriot or Falcon players would miss the Super Bowl because of their “injuries”?

  11. And if another DB decides not to go, the Chiefs could have 7 (Brandon Flowers). The defense can be great but hasnt been simply because of all the 3 and outs by the offense and the short fields created by all those TOs the offense created the first half of the year. They are not that far away, and if they keep Bowe, with Charles and Hillis at RB, and draft the Texas A&M left tackle first, they can/will make the playoffs in 13. But the big IF is the QB position. Here’s hoping they trade for Alex Smith and take Ryan Wilson from Arkansas in the 3rd and Reid develops him so in 15 we FINALLY have a Franchise home grown QB, the first since Len Dawson.

  12. The 2012 Chiefs might be the best 2-14 team of all time. 6 Pro Bowlers on a 2-14 team is almost unbelievable. How can a 2 win team have 6 Pro Bowls? Whoa.
As a Texans fan, I would like to trade Matt Schaub to the Chiefs in exchange the Chiefs switch draft picks in the 1st, 2nd and 4th round in the 2013 NFL draft with the Texans. Schaub would definitely lead the Chiefs to 8 to 10 wins against the last place schedule in 2013. Schaub easily makes the Chiefs the 2nd best team in the AFC West plus the Texans did win in Denver this season. Schaub would be a great veteran mentor to whichever quarterback the Chiefs take in the 2013 NFL draft.
    Do we have a deal?

  13. There are reports that says that this could be the last Pro Bowl…They said the NFL will decide if they will keep the Pro Bowl around depending on how the players play and how much fun they have.

  14. The Pro Bowl is a joke. How many players actually make it on merit, and how many sail on past accomplishments? For six players from a 2-14 team to make it is ridiculous.

  15. Is this enough reason for people to realize how much of a joke the pro bowl is?

How can 1/3 of the league be considered all stars for the year?

  16. Okay. Now the Pro Bowl is a COMPLETE joke. The NFL wants us to watch this, but the players don’t even want to watch it. There sure are a lot of mysterious injuries all of a sudden.

If this was a game that mattered the number of injuries to marquee players would be headline news. Can you imagine if the Patriots were going to the Super Bowl and had just announced that Brady and Welker were hurt and wouldn’t play??

But that’s what the Patriots announced in regard to the Pro Bowl. Pretty soon the Pro Bowl is only going to be manned by players who can’t afford a trip to Hawaii any other way.

  17. For everyone complaining that they shouldn’t have this many Pro Bowlers – tell me which of the players selected don’t deserve to go?

Eric Berry – great season after coming back from an ACL
    Tamba Hali – play maker
Justin Houston – made as an alternate, heard his number called every game
    Derrick Johnson – 131 tackles, 2 int, 1 FF and a sack
Jamaal Charles – 5.3 yards per carry on an offense that couldn’t throw the ball if they tried
Dustin Colquitt – the busiest punter in the league

Notice how you aren’t seeing offensive players, with the exception of Charles, on the list? Brady Quinn, Matt Cassell, and Ricky Stanzi. That’s how you end up 2-14 with a roster loaded with pro bowlers.

  18. Make the Pro Bowl an awards show. Have all the players take a paid vacation, sign autographs, and have a big party. Call each player to the stage to get his award. While he is coming up, show a couple of highlight clips. 3 to 4 hours of good plays, no one gets hurt, and bigger TV ratings.
    Make it happen Mike.

    Add Romeo in that mix

  20. It’s hard to tell what the bigger joke is, the Chiefs or the Pro Bowl.

Wrong on both counts. The bigger joke is your Raiders.
