Uh……….TONS of people try and meet people that they came across online. Ever heard of dating websites? The difference in this case is that the Skins players didn’t try to use a fake story about a fake person’s death to pump up their image and Heisman candidacy, and then lie about it for the cameras after finding out it was all a hoax.

Kinda of a big difference there.

In other words, in both cases, someone each thought was a real woman for some period of time.

What I got from this story is obviously they are all smarter then the academic all american Te’o. They obviously didn’t fall for it, considering they warned the entire team of the fake person. But this and the Te’o situation are completely different, the Redskins players realized it was bull and didn’t let it escalate, Te’o lied and covered everything up (or had everything to do with it). But I would bet that this happens to a couple of players from every team. Probably just a crazed fan trying to get close to the team. They weren’t gullible or naive, they clearly didn’t fall for it.

I met my husband online through a dating website 8 years ago. We met in person after a month of talking and it only took that long because I had gone on a 2 week vacation. If someone doesn’t want to meet you in person, it’s a bigger red flag than the one they throw on the football field!

How is Te’o “gullible” — he claimed to have eight hour phone conversations with nobody.

He’s a liar, covering something up. Quit supporting his lies — you don’t know if he was gullible or not, so you can’t just say he is.
