There has been much discussion about the Raiders in recent days, for something that happened a decade ago. Now, as they try to reverse 10 years of no playoff appearances, they’re adding a former head coach to their staff.

Tony Sparano, who worked as Dolphins coach for four seasons before serving as offensive coordinator of the Jets in 2012, has been hired to serve as assistant head coach/offensive line, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Sparano had never been a coordinator before becoming the head coach in Miami, working previously as the Cowboys’ offensive line coach. He’ll be charged with implementing a scheme other than the Texans-style zone blocking, which didn’t work very well last season.
