The Jets just introduced their new general manager earlier today, but they’re still in the process of remaking their coaching staff.
According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, they’ve decided to fire offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo after one season.
Ryan apparently intends to shift tight ends coach Mike Devlin into his spot.
DeGuglielmo came with Tony Sparano from Miami, and made more news by saying outrageous things than having a well-performing unit.
The best might have been his passionate defense of right tackle/turnstile Wayne Hunter during the preseason.
“I’ll be honest with you: This guy is the starting right tackle,” DeGuglielmo said of Hunter. “Until they tell me otherwise, until they ship him out of this building or until they shoot me dead in my office, that son of a gun is going to be the starting right tackle and he’s going to play well.”
Well, DeGuglielmo is still alive, but he’s now unemployed, making the 10th coach from last year’s staff to leave by either their choice of Rex Ryan’s.
