DeWayne Walker another complete failure as a head coach just like Mike Locksley, recent former New Mexico head coach, Jon Embree (Colorado), Turner Gill (Kansas). Walker took over a program that beat Nevada with Colin Kaepernick in Reno the yr before (Hal Mumme head coach) and ran it into the ground. New Mexico State admin stupidly gave DeWayne Walker totally undeserved extension after 2011 season. New Mexico State should and will liquidate their football program in a few yrs.

I’m glad he’s gone. Sounds like he’s glad to leave Las Cruces NM.

Pretty much a win-win, if you can say that about a 1-11 football program.

If everyone knows this, why the outrage? They’re going to college (for free!) to play football. It’s not prison. They can transfer.

Smart career move. After going 1-11, he may not be employed for long anway. If you get fired from NMSU, your chances of landing an NFL job become greatly diminished. Take the NFL gig while it’s still on the table.

With all the conference realignments over the last few years, the ultimate loser in it all was New Mexico State. They are a school without a conference. Literally. They are close to getting demoted to FCS level.

It was like Walker was on the Titanic but at least he got a lifeboat.

This move won’t look bad at all if he gets the chance to coach Ed Reed, Darelle Revis, or both depending on how trades and free agency shake out.

NMSU probably will lose FBS positioning in the very near future. It’s not a good situation all around, but you can’t blame the guy for grabbing a more stable NFL job when he has the chance.

I doubt he views the Jags job as a better job. He probably views it as a job. After going 1-11 he probably assumes that job won’t last much longer.

As a person who went to NMSU, a janitorial job with the Jaguars would be better than coaching the aggies. With that said, he was an awful coach and good riddance.
