Defensive guru Al Groh, who coached with Crennel and Mangini under Parcells is also available. He’s looking for a job and his lease in Atlanta runs out a month from now. The Saints will need at the very least a defensive backfield coach and possibly an outside linebackers coach.

The D Mangini ran in NE which was only the 05 season’s team was their worst finish in points allowed from that season until this one (17th). Under BB and without either of those two (06 through 2012) the Pats D’s worst finish in PA was last year at 15th and he’s had two top 5 PA defenses. So instead of taking time to type the same boring old epithets for BB’s name, why don’t you educate yourself instead?

I guess some people just understand that you have talent in addition to coaching to be successful.

And you list 10 games out of 24. So that means that over the half the time, his defense faired pretty well considering their overall lack of talent.

He was the DC on three Super Bowl championship teams; including a season in which he was so thin in the secondary he started a WR at CB.

I can’t believe no one has sniffed around Mangini before now. His defenses have always been at least above average. I know his personality isn’t the most well liked, but I think he can really help some defensively bad teams (Saints, Packers, my own Eagles).

Either guy is worth a try. The Saints defense can’t get much if any worse than it was under the alleged genius Spagnuolo, and, after each has failed twice as a head coach already, each may be cognizant of his limitations and abilities.

Romeo is a very good DC, just a crappy HC. Some people have it takes to head coach and some don’t.

That is not taking anything away from Crennel, just the facts.

Great DC. I actually wish there had been a way for KC to keep him at the DC role. I was actually pissed which he got the HC job knowing once he gets canned we’d lose him all together

Not sure why the Saints picked a defensive scheme and then look for a coach. They are going to spend the next 2-3 drafts trying to find guys to fit the roles needed, NT’s, DE’s, OLB’s, etc.

There is varying opinions on that one. They have the personnel to pull this off (sans the most important piece, the NT). They have Cam Jordan who wont have an issue switching to the 3 – 4 (he played that in college and he’s the right 3 – 4 fit at DE), we can move Aikeem Hicks to the other DE, move Martez Wilson and Junior Gallette back to OLB, have Lofton and Hawthorne man the middle.

I honestly think they evaluated the defensive personnel, saw how well the 3 – 4 works and pulled the trigger.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Winston Moss or maybe Kirby Smart end up here too.

Means a lot of changes, ie: Vilma, Smith and Ellis.

Just give the job to Crennel. I would not want to deal with Eric Mangini on a daily basis. He’s the Todd Haley of defense.

It’s a damn shame that a Colts fan cannot even name their D Coordinator(GREG MANUSKY) and already wants him to be fired. Why?? It wasn’t the coaching, it was the personnel on the Colts. I really hope that they don’t draft well, but they will, Ryan Grigson knows what he’s doing. They’ll give the Texans crap during the next few years or until Kubiak and Schaub leave.

just want to put this out there, last week was all about the lack of minority coaches and how no new coaches will ever get the chance to prove them smelf’s, and again, 2 “name” coaches being considered, but Carolina goes or and hires few nobody’s that have the chance to see what they can do and what they can become and the story is that Carolina is selling them smelf’s short and not posting any promise. so the media complains about one issue, and when it looks like the issue is addressed, they turn it around and make it another issue. unbelievable. why? is it because the no name coaches hired in Carolina are not black no name coaches?

In the last 1.5 years that Romeo was KC’s defensive coordinator they had games where the defense gave up 41, 48, 31, 34, 37, 40, 35, 37, 38, and 31 points. If that’s the definition of a “excellent defensive coordinator” I’d hate to see a bad one.

Romeo Crennel is an excellent DC who is over his head as an HC. More importantly, he’s a good man. Hope he gets the shot.
